It works well in a "manufacturing environment" with multi-level BOMs; it would be less appropriate in the finance industry.

Not every Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System does not cover all the industry verticals and all the functionalities and requirements for a specific industry as built-in features. Although IFS Applications does not completely cover all the requirements and all the industry verticals, it can be implemented for any industrial company with minimum configurations and customization, which is very good when implementing an ERP system. Since it supports web and mobile versions of the application as well, the users ind it easy to use.

Cons
  • ABAS is headquartered in Germany with a US based headquarters in Virginia. Some of the programming structures were based on European methods that differed somewhat from the way business is done in the US. ABAS-USA has worked to modify the system so that it is in tune with US business practices and has made great strides in this effort. For the average user, the structures may go unnoticed, but for the more advanced user, some of the field names that are used for advanced reporting might be in German. However, ABAS-USA has recently been updating the programming language to be fully in English.
  • Because ABAS is growing rapidly, more complex customizations might take longer to complete than normal. ABAS appears to be bringing on even more technicians to handle the increased workload so the concern is waning.

  • Project Budget control other than Procurement
  • Customer Advance settlement process should be Manual rather then Auto Adjustment
  • IFS GSO Support should be more proactive

Usability

In overall, the companies get many advantages, where we can forget most of the things which can be considered for room for improvement. The user interface is good. It supports mobile versions an has several mobile applications for specific areas with Android, IOS and Windows versions. It allows several deployment options such as remote hosting, IFS Cloud hosting and on-premise hosting of the servers. IFS Applications can be easily and safely integrated with other systems.

Microsoft AX, QAD (in continuation of our previous ERP), Sage X3 was an out of the box ERP that was part of initial RFP. We have chosen IFS based on the compromise between costs & budget, functionality, technical features, and feedback from similar customers that gave their feedback. The project manager team and qualification level of technical or consultant teams were differentiating factors too. Finally IFS application was named in the Gartner’s mid-market ERP Magic Quadrant, along with SAP, and helped us to finalize our choice

Return on Investment
  • ABAS has the capability to handle many of the processes that we did on various software platforms. Since we've been able to consolidate these platforms, the cost of subscriptions, maintenance and management hasve been reduced.
  • Efficiency was a noticeable impact right from the start. In the past, reports from one system had to be loaded into another in order to provide the analysis needed for business decisions. Connections to our design software also reduced the amount of time our engineers spent manually creating bills of material and purchase requisitions.
  • The ability to see what's happening in various business functions all in one place has helped with decision making and provided the data necessary to ask the right questions when arriving at those hard decisions.

  • Positive impact in terms of global process alignment.
  • Positive impact in terms of a single system of truth and reporting.
