Chose Accounting Seed
Well, while I have not interacted with many accounting solutions, I know Accounting Seed is more affordable and capable. I have used it for a long time and I can say it works as expected.

We moved from Financial Edge to Accounting Seed because we needed a cloud-based accounting system. Financial Edge allowed us to access the system from a shared server but it was not made for that. Financial Edge was not updated much over the years we used it while technology …

Flexibility of data review is superior in Accounting Seed. Ability to work in Salesforce environment like other departments in our organization is helpful for all staff in day-to-day jobs and in a staff person's ability to move from one department to another. Cross training …
Chose Accounting Seed
Honestly, Accounting Seed was the only one I focused on when looking to switch from our existing program. It showed in the partner app store and stated it was created native to SalesForce. As I read through it's capabilities, cost, etc., I knew it was the right choice.
Chose Accounting Seed
Much easier to have accounting software be native to Salesforce. That's the main reason we went with Accounting Seed and are happy to have made that decision. We also love the customization abilities - just as easy as adding any field in Salesforce.

Accounting Seed is a great solution for businesses looking for reliable accounting software. It offers all the features needed and works as expected. In addition, it is not as pricey as many competitors and therefore a great choice. I would recommend it for both startups and established businesses.

Munis is great for any sort of data keeping and accounting work. There are features of Munis that I am still not familiar with even after 6 years of use. Munis would not be very good for a point of sale sort of operation like a retail store because it just simply is not set up for that sort of operation.

Pros
  • When making a deposit for a donation we can tag the account record.
  • Anyone can recognize donors that are also vendors.
  • Extracting general ledger detail is accurate and easy - allowing us to ensure the GL matches revenue detail from donations, box office and education.
  • Budgeting is actually pretty nimble now that I am using it more.

  • Munis has multiple different sections that each pertain to different areas of our office. For example, there is a section in Munis that is for listing. This area supports all of the information that our county (or any other county) would need to enter to properly tax Business or Personal Property. There are similar sections for collections, vehicles, etc.
  • Munis has so many features. Munis can be set up to maintain foreclosures, garnishments, attachments, and/or executions within its collections sections.
  • Munis has so many features but they all work together which is great because you can see almost everything within the main bill inquiry area instead of having to flip back and forth between areas of the software.
  • Munis also has a finance side which is great because we are able to submit our collections reports to our finance department and they too can use finance to handle that side of the business.
  • Munis is highly customizable due to the amount of features it has.

Cons
  • Sometimes when creating a receipt it can't seem to find the company I am searching for in the drop-down, I have to go out to the company and enter from there.
  • Some of the accounting reports seem to be limited, though at times this may just be the user! Still learning as I go! But there have been some reports that state I would need to add another partner app to do, which would mean more cost.

  • Room for improvement for the Building Dept. software. Could not get it to work so we ended up getting rid of it and going back to our old system.
  • The payroll side could use more fine tuning. You have to manipulate some things to get them to work properly.

Usability
Accounting Seed was easy to implement and use without third-party service providers' intervention. Furthermore, the vendor forwarded us a copy of articles and documentation on implementation, customization and integration, which made it much easier for us to integrate it with company API and other external programs.

Support Rating
We seldom have had to use their support but when we have, they have been responsive and actually were able to answer our questions in a simple, nontech language. You don't have to be a programmer to talk to them!

I have never used Xero at my current organization, but I used it at Alliance Data before Implementing Accounting Seed. Xero wasn’t updated much during the years that we were using it. Also, Xero failed to integrate with some of third-party applications that we were using. Finally, Accounting Seed was highly navigable, had clean UI/UX unlike Xero.
