Considered Both Products
Anaplan
Chose Anaplan
I think Anaplan is a better and more mature product than SAP SAC, but SAC has a better integration with its core modules and BW platforms.
Chose Anaplan
Anaplan offers faster performance. The modelling tool is user oriented.
Chose Anaplan
We like Anaplan for its flexibility, out-of-the-box starting apps, speed to deploy, and ability to maintain long-term.
Chose Anaplan
Anaplan feels like the golden standard. Pigment lacks necessary functionality like actions.
Chose Anaplan
Anaplan vs Oracle Hyperion - Anaplan is far better calculation engine and way more modern. However, Anaplan still struggles to provide reporting, especially adhoc reporting in excel based off a data model.

Anaplan vs Pigment - Anaplan is a more proven product, however, Pigment …
Chose Anaplan
Definitely a leader in the space. Far ahead in terms of capabilities. On the high end in terms of end user experience.

Chose Anaplan
Easy of use is Anaplan's main advantage. As Anaplan is code-less configuration, and the logic for model building is by far the simplest, it would make the learning curve less steep. This is very important when we are showing our clients that, their complicated planning scenario …

Chose Anaplan
Anaplan is more powerful than Pigment considering that it is an Enterprise class system and is able to manage bigger data sets. Anaplan allows for advanced scenario modeling and formula capabilities along with custom reporting functionalities. Anaplan has proven its …
Chose Anaplan
Anaplan and these other tools are very similar. I cannot say that I selected Anaplan over them as I have worked with and been involved with setting up a number of tools for clients. They all have their advantages and Anaplan is a very strong tool in the cloud planning space.
Chose Anaplan
can be implemented across multiple use cases- also Anaplan is an enterprise solution. Had good reviews in market and also used by other competitors in industry
Chose Anaplan
Both platforms are excellent but come with some challenges. They are often complex to configure and offer limited customization options. Their user interfaces are not very intuitive, and their reporting capabilities are somewhat restricted. The total cost of ownership is …
Chose Anaplan
In my professional experience, I've exclusively worked with Anaplan. The tool's impressive features made learning it an ongoing, engaging process. Its continuous updates and capabilities kept me consistently learning and adapting, so I never felt the need to switch to a …
Chose Anaplan
The tools generally fill different niches, Anaplan is the best for corporate and enterprise planning, OneStream's strengths are in Consolidations and working with large data sets by IT, and Pigment is a strong contender for finance teams at small organizations with less-defined …

Chose Anaplan
We selected Anaplan because of the breadth of their vision and their approach to tackle "planning" of all kinds and integrate planning processes into a true Connected Planning ecosystem. We found that their flexibility and ease of use ultimately provided a better avenue to …
Prophix
Chose Prophix
I've just recently evaluated FloQast and was very intrigued with their product. Overall review is they don't have a budget/forecasting tool. This is a main piece of our business and doesn't hold up against Prophix.
Chose Prophix
I have used other budgeting and forecasting tools at different companies, and Prophix is a much easier product to use and implement. I have received better user feedback from Prophix compared to other tools I have used at other companies. Other tools lacked dashboard …
Chose Prophix
We elected to give Prophix the initial chance given the cheaper price point and since we were already using this tool for consolidation purposes.
Chose Prophix
Prophix was chosen because it appeared nimble and easy to use. In contrast, it was more affordable than the other solutions we looked at.
Chose Prophix
Prophix was the clear choice when evaluating multiple software applications. The concept of dimensions in Prophix allows the organization to generate reports of any kind and there is no request for a report that we have not been able to create. Having direct budget entry into …
Chose Prophix
I was not in the selection process; however, after using Adaptive at a former company, I feel Prophix is much easier from the user standpoint (especially for those who don't work in finance). The one pro of a tool like Adaptive, though, is that it is a Workday product so that …
Chose Prophix
We ultimately chose Prophix for its stronger automation features and direct relationship with CMiC. While Vena offers a similar set of capabilities, we found Prophix to be more intuitive, especially when it comes to creating and managing reports without heavy reliance on Excel. …
Chose Prophix
We carried out an evaluation with IBM, and some other national software that is not on the list, such as Lever Pro and Allstrategy. For IBM, our main problem was that the software representative wanted to sell something modular, thus losing all the functionality of a "blank …
Chose Prophix
We felt Prophix was much more flexible than Briq and offered a more solid financial reporting and budgeting package. Briq is more custom built solution-focused. They build solutions to fit your specific needs. The primary reason we went with Prophix is that we wanted something …
Chose Prophix
Prophix is much more advanced and has more capabilities to Quickbooks. It is more flexible, agile, and creative than these softwares. The automation is really what sets it apart from these type of software. Integrating directly with our ERP is something that is enormously …
Chose Prophix
I didn't select Prophix for our company, but it does some things very well. It is way easier to set up and maintain than Hyperion and BPC, which require ongoing support from our IT department. Prophix only requires us to involve IT when we need to map new external data or …
Chose Prophix
We chose Prophix because of their better service, their Canadian presence, cost and overall it seemed a better match to our needs. Workday seemed like it was for bigger companies and came at a higher cost.
Chose Prophix
I was not apart of the Prophix selection process or the initial implementation. Prophix has been a good tool for us to expand upon and grow and innovate with all of our enhancements. I have not used any other tools like Prophix, but it does have a lot of good features and …
Chose Prophix
I was not specifically part of the selection process, but it is my understanding that Prophix's security model played a big part in choosing the platform. Gaining efficiencies from processes that were previously done manually in excel was another driving factor. Additionally, a …
Chose Prophix
Very simple end-user experience, easy to implement, ability to link to and from Microsoft D365.
Chose Prophix
The learning curve to understanding Prophix is far less severe than it has been with other softwares. It requires much less time in order to learn how to be a beginning user and then each progression to deeper levels of understanding is remarkably easy. I appreciate the …
Chose Prophix
Prophix is 10 steps ahead of Spectrum. They are very different though. Spectrum is our ERP - while Prophix is a very useful and needed add on.
Chose Prophix
Price, functionality, and service were major factoring for us when deciding on which platform to use.
Chose Prophix
Workday seems as though it had similar features, price point was much higher. We selected Prophix because we had it many years ago before the cloud and several new features.
Chose Prophix
We compared Prophix with Board and Adaptive Planning. Prophix seemed to be much more user friendly when compared to Board. It was just a more robust product.
It did stack very well with Workday Adaptive Planning, but what set them apart was that Prophix has a great …
Chose Prophix
D365 lacked basic functionality to develop a budget. In its current form would have had to resort to going back to excel to build the budget.
Chose Prophix

Anaplan is best suited for strategic planning initiatives in industries like CPG, Manufacturing, FS, Pharma. It can handle multiple use cases for each function in the company like Supply chain, Finance, Sales and more. It is one of the best tools I have seen in scenario modelling. It is not suitable for very detailed level planning, essentially execution level eg. Production scheduling.

Prophix is substantially out of the box product to be easy to use but flexible enough to allow for varied business modelling. No technical skills are required to deploy and maintain the solution. Owing to its out of the box nature, departing from Prophix sweet spot e.g. when leveraging transactional data, the solution is not as capable, however this is being addressed by the new Prophix release.

Pros
  • Ingest and integrate disconnected datasets and sources that speak different "languages"
  • Flexible security and user-oriented customization of dashboards and datasets
  • Smart architecture allows creative license to connect planning processes that have different time horizons and granularities
  • Real-time ("live") collaboration is particularly useful for globally spread teams in different time-zones

  • Reports are very customizable - once you learn how to create reports, it is really easy to design the final output you'd like.
  • The tool is easy to use, especially for those that don't work in the finance function.
  • It offers an excellent workflow capability to send out tasks to cost center owners all over the company.
  • We love the ability to create and customize cubes.

Cons
  • I would like there to be additional visualization improvements/features for reports
  • Additional technical support resources would be great to quickly resolve bugs
  • I would like for improvements around the ability to have a lot of dimensions in a table of data and the speed around processing those calcs.

  • Version control; there are issues using the same budget version in multiple years if adding detail (line item detail). What Prophix has explained as a benefit is a huge detriment for us and we've been working with them for 6 months on a fix and it's yet to get resolved
  • There are certain aspects that a messy; within our budgeting and forecasting detail, we have "unexplained balance" lines that show up that are distracting and add no value.
  • Lack of a centralized location for content outside of tool; for example, training, help, support, intranet, etc are all separate websites and not easy to get to. I'm not sure why all of this isn't linked to the same account and accessible through the tool. Why should we need separate passwords for everything Prophix?!

Anaplan is already an established market leader in enterprise planning area. Its flexibility to build multi-dimensional models, real time scenario plannings are proven to be the best features and successfully implemented by global organizations. Anaplan's ambitious product team is ensuring to roll out new features regularly based on customer/ partner feedback. e.g their new improved polaris environment has strong potential to build very large models without worrying about sparsity. The integration with other tools/technologies is being easier (e.g. cloudworks). Hence, considering Anaplan as a platform that has proved to be successful tool in enterprise level planning, its focus on regular feature enhancements and future release roadmaps I believe this platform has potential to evolve further along with our business processes and requirements

The system works well for us, and meets all of our needs. All of our future plans can and will be achieved within Prophix, so there is no need to pursue another product. Prophix has continuously proven to improve their product over the years, which provides an even higher level of confidence in this tool, and future developments

Usability
Anaplan is interesting because it is at the same time easy to use and difficult to use. An end user can navigate a well-constructed app, being pointed in the right direction every time they feel a slight bit of confusion, and find everything they need in what feels like a straight line. Similarly, a model builder (developer of sorts) can have the exact same experience, but the journey is longer and more complicated. End users have great experiences with Anaplan, but sometimes model builders have a frustrating one. That is not to say model building is hard (because it truly is not), but things change, and when things change in complex systems, the effort required simply to investigate where a model builder needs to make an adjustment may frustrate them but also frustrate their non-technical bosses. However, the reality is that with complicated businesses, complicated business problems, come complicated solutions. It is actually a testament to Anaplan's capabilities that it has taken on the biggest problems at the biggest companies. It may be daunting to adjust it in those environments, but at least you know it did meet the needs there, which is more than most tools can say.

The
data can be sliced and diced many ways, and each user is able to do it however
they like. It is easy to create or run existing reports. We have made many of
our processes more efficient, and Prophix has allowed us to save more time than
you can imagine. We
are able to use Prophix for Expense tracking, Expense and Capital planning, reforecasting,
Compensation planning, Project tracking, Expense allocation, GAAP PLOB
reporting, and still have several more tasks to implement through Prophix

Reliability and Availability
There are very few outages. Maintenance is scheduled on two or three Saturdays per month, so as not to affect businesses. When there is an outage, users are kept informed of progress to restore the platform and typically this takes no more than an hour. Anaplan customer support is very responsive if we ever have questions about platform issues
Read full review
The availability in Prophix is relatively good. We have occurred random outages in different versions that wipe out data, which can be brought back. Or we have ran into system wide slowness that impacts all users in the system, but we have been able to get more capacity to supply our performance.

Performance
Generally, pages load quickly and reports complete within a reasonable timeframe. However, when working with large or complex datasets or during times of multiple active users, performance can sometimes be impacted. That said, much of the performance depends on how the model is built and whether best practices have been followed. Optimized models tend to perform much better, so the experience can be somewhat subjective based on the setup.

Prophix has always performed consistently. We are using on-premise so many factors can contribute to slower than desired performance, most having nothing to do with Prophix itself. If we move to the web-client cloud based solution I believe performance will even be better.

Support Rating
Support quality has dropped since Thoma Bravo has taken over. I think some serious re-focus needs to happen here -- part of the beauty of being in the Anaplan community was how involved you felt in it before. Before I didn't dread sending a support ticket, now I am starting to.

The Prophix staff is very helpful and quick to respond. I like that they teach me instead of doing it for me when possible, so I don't have to contact them as often! Never talked to anyone at Prophix that I didn't respect or think highly of! Very professional, great customer service!

In-Person Training
In my opinion, in-person training is always the best if you have the option to do so. This allows real-time interactions with the instructions, whereas the online training I took required me to write-down questions, email them, and wait for responses. This slows down the process, as you can imagine. That said, in-person training is an extra cost and it likely isn't needed for everyone. I would suggest selecting a small number of people to take in-person training and then having them act as mentors to the rest of your team. That way, as the rest of the team takes the online training, they have a resource to help them in real time.

The initial integration consultant was very helpful in making sure we were set up with all the essential uses we required: reporting/budgeting/forecasting. There was a learning curve but our consultant made it very easy to understand and helped me be comfortable in my Global Admin role in the system. Even after integration, we were given support whenever I came up with an idea I would get in touch and I would be trained on how I can implement it.

Online Training
Learning made easy . One of the best trainings i have attended. Training was very detailed training by the trainer, which helped me understand the basics of the model building. Level 1 training was easy and instructor was most helpful here. Level 2 training was challenging but was able to go thru due to understanding of the basics.

We used our system and created a test cube to work with our own data. We ran through the different functions of Prophix and covered alot of material. We did two sessions a week, with homework tasks assigned. We were able to ask questions and cover any questions during the followup sessions.

Implementation Rating
Agile methodology and breaking the work down into sprints was very helpful. Implementation required a deeper dive into our data than expected for the consultants to be able to construct the data model. But once it was in place, the focus on knowledge transfer enabled us to be able to use the product effectively after the team rolled off.

Planning, planning, planning. Prophix will send you some Excel spreadsheets ahead of implementation. If those spreadsheets are complete, implementation will be smooth. Also, set aside some time during implementation to work with the Prophix staff and ask lots of questions. The knowledge they share is invaluable.

Alternatives Considered
Anaplan is one of the only tools flexible to handle bespoke commission calculations. In addition to Sales Performance Management, Anaplan can be used to support other business functions, such as workforce planning or financial planning & analysis. Anaplan provides the scalability needed for an enterprise-level solution. While taking longer to implement, it also can provide a greater ROI.

Scalability
We have managed to leverage Anaplan for financial planning and forecasting across the business. It is now used by almost every department, with more than 50 users (but I know of companies that have hundreds of users) and still the platform is quick and reliable. It is easy to make changes to divisions and departments or add users and apply different user settings - the core part of the model is not affected and end users can continue their work without any disruption

I gave Prophix a 10 on scalability because we currently deploy the solution to department heads across our entire organization and never have any issues with those individuals using or accessing the system to look at their financial information within premade templates . They currently enter budgets and review reports within the system currently. The only issue is they cannot typically use the ad hoc functionality because that would require higher level licenses that cost more and it is not worth it to give them more costly licenses since they really aren't working in the system quite like the robust finance users

Return on Investment
  • Reduction in time spent by sales ops team in processing compensation by almost 20 %
  • Ability to drill down into each compensation calculation to understand the details of how the comp is calculated. This has provided more transparency / traceability to end users
  • we are able to release updates to the system faster as it is easier to maintain and sync

  • Prophix has made it possible to move away from some Excel reporting we were doing, which allows for 50% quicker reporting on a monthly basis.
  • Although it has saved us time, an improved PowerPoint feature that automatically updates our decks would save an additional 75% on top of what we already do.
  • Our Board Reporting has improved by 10 hours by moving our reports fully into Prophix.
