Key User Insights
	CouchDB	IBM Cloudant
Considered Both Products	Apache No answer on this topic	IBM Verified User Chose IBM Cloudant The feature-set, including security, is very comparable. Overall, IBM's services added to the product are mature and stable, although product support and engineers could be a little better. Global availability is improving, and Disaster Recover Capabilities are great. Overall, … Incentivized Helpful? Brandon Stephan Data Science Program Mentor at Thinkful (Higher Education, 51-200 employees) Chose IBM Cloudant In our case, it was a no-brainer since we were using IBM Cloud. In comparison to DB2 the ease of use and JSON support was the key. Incentivized Helpful? Wes Wilson CTO (Chief Technical Officer) in Engineering at YukonBaby (Hospital & Health Care, 1-10 employees) Chose IBM Cloudant It's easier to use than Dynamo, more open than Firebase, and has better documentation that CouchDB... it might not be fair to compare Modulus, Modulus obviously suffers from some scalability issues and might not be in the same class... but its a hosted DB service we had some … Incentivized Helpful? Romualdo Gobbo Owner in Corporate at NEWLOG Consulting Srl (Computer Software, 11-50 employees) Chose IBM Cloudant All other NoSQL document-centric DB must be installed on premise on in the cloud as complicated clusters. The "as a service" formula and the open source origin were the same reasons for Cloudant choice, freeing us of all system and administration tasks! Incentivized Helpful? Justin Saul Senior Director - SeniorAdvisor.com in Information Technology at A Place for Mom (Hospital & Health Care, 501-1000 employees) Chose IBM Cloudant Cloudant is a database as a service with a strong support team. The feature set is comparable to other solutions but not all are managed services, or have easy scalability, or can demonstrate production level reliability and performance. Incentivized Helpful? Kris Bandurski Executive Vice President, Engineering in Engineering at Green Man Gaming (Retail, 51-200 employees) Chose IBM Cloudant We used to host CouchDB ourselves, but moved to BigCouch at first for scalability and then to Cloudant to reduce the maintenance overheads. We use Elasticsearch alongside Cloudant these days, since _changes streams make it easy to feed data from Cloudant into Elasticsearch. … Incentivized Helpful? Don Burks CTO in Information Technology at Lighthouse Labs (Restaurants, 1-10 employees) Chose IBM Cloudant Cloudant blows all of the other competitors out of the water. The robust UI, the scalability, the management console, these are all reasons why Cloudant is a superior product to any of these "competitors". Cloudant is head and shoulders above the rest. It was a pleasure to … Incentivized Helpful? Denis Voloshko platform manager in Research & Development at Samsung Electronics (Consumer Electronics, 10,001+ employees) Chose IBM Cloudant Cloudant extends features of CouchDB, but you don't have to host it for yourself. IBM does this for you. Also Cloudant is free if you are under $50 per month. And there is integration with other IBM products, like dashDB (for analytics).Cloudant has CouchApps and it's a feature … Incentivized Helpful? Nicolas Peeters VP of Engineering in Engineering at AirFi / MI Airline (Information Technology and Services, 11-50 employees) Chose IBM Cloudant Actually, none. Since we rely on Cloudant. Incentivized Helpful? Jesús Aponte Ayudante Académico Nivel II at Universidad Simón Bolívar (Higher Education, 1001-5000 employees) Chose IBM Cloudant I think they are very similar. We would like to have local versions of cloudant to have a better integration. Incentivized Helpful? Shiv Shivakumar customer service leader in Information Technology at ifox (Computer Software, 1001-5000 employees) Chose IBM Cloudant Cloudant stacks up very well especially since it can perform multiple functions - primarily a noSQL schema-less data base but when integrated with an MDM solution (master data management) it can also do caching services efficiently and can also be used as a graph data base. … Incentivized Helpful? Verified User Chose IBM Cloudant The control panel and maintenance was easier. Incentivized Helpful? Victor Pease Solano General Manager in Engineering at Supermio (Computer Software, 1-10 employees) Chose IBM Cloudant Cloudant is a hosted solution so it works better for me. Also, it includes a better authentication layer than CouchDB. As for Couchbase, it has membase but the hosted options are much more expensive. In the SQL world, I tried several sync solutions but the configuration and … Incentivized Helpful? Verified User Chose IBM Cloudant Easier to use, install and configure. Incentivized Helpful?
