Archer is better suited for an environment that has at least some maturity in its program, whatever that program may be. If an organization does not know stakeholders involved, or the workflow for its own process, or has the technology in place to perform vulnerability scans, then Archer will probably not be much help. If an organization knows these items, but it's all paper based or in Excel spreadsheets, or they are struggling to report on them, or notify an individual when it is their time to take action in a process, then Archer can be a tremendous help.

Wdesk is best suited for companies with demanding SEC filings and documents, with multiple revisions due to auditor/counsel review, and where financial reporting is extremely manual. Wdesk really helps take out the potential errors out of extremely manual processes, and helps automate regular financial reporting by allowing companies to link financial information and build customized flows of their information into financial statements and other documents (such as presentations or other internal reporting).

Cons
  • They release time to time updates, which causes issues in the GUI. However, one has to be careful while installing the update.
  • There is no open and free academy to learn more about the tool.
  • One cannot stay to a particular product version, they have to move to the next version to keep up with the changes.

  • The automation could be better. A lot of mass updates are done manually.
  • Sometimes the system has connection issues and certain functions are down.
  • The customer service could be more proactive to provide regular training and sharing updates on the software.
  • Customer service could be better to help process the mass updates in a timely fashion.

Usability
Good tool to get the information communicated, approval workflow, and easy to add new findings/questionnaires. Seems to be compatible with different browsers and little downtime. Only request for improvement is to add an export feature with fewer clicks. Maybe batch export.

Overall it's a good-to-go product because of its features. It's easy to set up, meets requirements, has quality support, etc. So far, it has been working quite well for me, and I wish to continue using it for as long as it meets my requirements.

Support Rating
Our RSA Archer team is dedicated to finding solutions for our organization. They haven't mentioned any issues with receiving support with deployment or bug fixes, and generally the platform is very dependable. They are always very excited about delivering a version upgrade and presenting any new features that provide more dashboards or chart types.

I have not had to deal with the Support Team, but overall our experience with the tool has been positive. They try to set new customers up for success from the start (I was part of the sales process, not the actual onboarding) and seemed to know that it’s a difficult transition, but worth it in the long run.

Alternatives Considered
Microsoft Dynamics is a useful tool with easy integration to toolsets for analytics, and has a remarkable ease of use. The accessibility and discoverability in RSA Archer is more difficult, as sections get densely nested. The search capability in Dynamics is smoother but reliant on complete words being used, whereas RSA Archer searching is full Boolean.

I liked Merrill Bridge and Wdesk. I'd be happy with either one, as both have a user interface that's simple for seasoned users of the Microsoft suite of products. We use Wdesk because there's a large network of Wdesk users in this community, there are lots of training resources available online and in-person, and all of the departments in the company like the program.

Return on Investment
  • We were able to achieve approx 63% gain in operational efficiency.
  • Reduce the number of findings and exceptions during an Internal audit to almost zero.
  • Get compliance to all client contracts tracked through the tool thus increasing the confidence of clients in our systems and processes.

  • We have not quantified the ROI but we have definitely saved money and time by switching to Wdesk.
  • By integrating other things we do currently outside of Wdesk, like SOX, we can reap better benefits.
  • We currently use a third party tool for Form 4s etc and this too could be brought into the Wdesk fold.
