We checked Windows IPAM which seems well suited for smaller networks. Other products didn't cut it based on cost - this also integrates with the rest of our SolarWinds estate.

Chose SolarWinds IP Address Manager (IPAM)
SolarWinds is easier to configure than every other tool I have used including Infoblox. If you already use SolarWinds for monitoring IPAM, it can be bolted on and set up in minutes. Alerts are pre-configured and there are existing "canned" reports. I have yet to meet an IT user …

Atlassian JiraSolarWinds IP Address Manager (IPAM)

Jira facilitates software development, bug tracking, and sprints. It's ideal for structured workflows, issue management, and customer communication. However, more straightforward tools might be more efficient for highly creative, unstructured tasks or tiny, agile teams with quick visual overviews. Jira's complexity can be overkill for basic task lists.

If you already have SolarWinds Products, there's no other product that I have seen on the market that incorporates all network management and IPAM tools so seamlessly. No longer having to have several consoles open to manage DHCP, DNS, and Subnets saves so much time and makes the whole process much more manageable.

Pros
  • As a developer, it is easy to create, track and manage tickets efficiently.
  • Customizable issue types (eg: Bug, Task, Story, Epic) allow teams to categorize and priorizate work.
  • Great text editor and markdown support for detailed issue descriptions.
  • Assign issues to team members, set due dates and define priorities.
  • Integration with Jenkins, GitHub and other CI/CD tools to automate builds and deployments.

  • With IPAM automated address scanning, we can be confident that we are looking at an up-to-date, accurate snapshot of our network.
  • The built-in alerts are a great safety net. We know that even if we aren't paying close attention to our IP address space, IPAM is. If a range is nearly full, IPAM lets us know before it becomes a real problem.
  • IPAM's event logging gives us insight into any and all changes made by our network engineers.

Cons
  • The interface is not intuitive to learn for new users
  • JQL is similarly challenging for newbies
  • It's possible to accidentally move issues from one sprint to another without realizing your mistake
  • Certain issue attributes aren't available in certain view (e.g. story points from the epic overview)
  • The user experience is not as intuitive as other products. We have to be more restrictive around level 1 help desk access compared to NCM or NPM in SolarWinds.
  • Making and enforcing changes, not just monitoring, has been hit or miss in some instances.

JIRA is highly integrated into our organization. Nearly every department uses it, and many have multiple JIRA projects set up to track different types of work. We rolled out JIRA in a staged manner, but it continued to be adopted by more and more people and departments because it continues to show results. I expect we will continue to renew our JIRA license for years to come

We are heavily invested in SolarWinds. We currently own Network Performance Monitor, Netflow Traffic Analyzer, User Device Tracker, Server Application Monitor and Network Configuration Manager. We have NOC mode setup for deskside support for monitoring any down devices that may effect our network across the globe. This application gives us the information we need when we need it.

Usability
Atlassian Jira is relatively easy to use, but there are several ways to configure it, which can make it more complicated if you configure it incorrectly. Keeping the customizations and complexity limited to being the project would be suggested to ensure you don't lose in-built Atlassian Jira features, then change the configuration as you find things aren't meeting your exact needs.

Bring the interface into a more user friendly space.
Allow the user the ability to move root folders into other root folders. There are times when sites need to be combined into a new group and having to delete then re-add them is a huge pain. Make the popup screen for putting in information double the size so that you get everything in one window view rather than having to scroll.

Reliability and Availability
Did not face any issues and whenever they plan maintanance they update all of us very well in advance also so in that view we are good with the product stability.

We do not integrate IPAM into other systems other than the standard Orion integration. The performance is reasonable, however, we are running all the SolarWinds applications on a very large server.

Support Rating
I have not had a chance to contact JIRA's customer support. It does offer extensive documentation, although it often feels too technical for me. There is also a JIRA training app that lets you take little lessons and quizzes on different areas (e.g., JIRA basics, agile). I did find it a helpful way to teach myself.

I have not contacted customer support and therefore have no experience in this area. I know we have some issues with our VAR support at this time for Orion, but I don't know if the IPAM falls into the same support structure. Perhaps others in the organization may know more regarding the support area.

Online Training
One of their strong points i stheir documentation. Almost all of the basic set up needed within JIRA is available online through atlassian and its easy to find and very precise. The more critical issues need to be addressed as well and hence the rating of 8 instead of a 9.

Implementation Rating
Take your time implementing Jira. Make sure you understand how you want to handle your projects and workflows. Investing more time in the implementation can pay off in a long run. It basically took us 5 days to define and implement correctly, but that meant smooth sailing later on.

Know the full scope of what you will be installing. Solarwinds can be a very complex installation. IPAM is just one fairly simplistic piece.

Alternatives Considered
Jira is more feature-rich than Trello and also has better integration with other tools. Trello is a lot more focused on work tracking, while Jira can do a lot more than that. Both can also be combined, although they're often considered mutually exclusive alternatives—I've seen cases where companies choose to use either one or the other, but I haven't met an actual case of a company using both.

Scalability
Atlassian Jira is highly stable and good with its performance and its has all the required scalability features as business needs
Read full review
We have not experienced any scalability issues with this product. However, SolarWinds needs to allow users to scale horizontally without any license restrictions. For example, we would like to separate Netflow and Orion onto different platforms but are unable to due to license restrictions.

Return on Investment
  • JIRA has increased the teams' productivity and efficiency; the sprint timelines have improved by 15-20%.
  • JIRA's integration with tools like Bitbucket and Confluence has improved functional collaboration, leading to faster decision-making and issue resolution by approximately 10-15%.
  • Additional functionality requires additional third-party plugins, which require additional costs; the requirements of these plugins increase the costs by approximately 15%.

  • IPAM has made our IP allocation process automated and smooth.
  • Different team used to use Spread Sheet which have been gone now.
  • We are able to predict well in advance if any new Subnet is required or existing subnet is going to exhaust.
