Azure supports on-premises and cloud-based servers, and IBM supports only IBM Cloud-based servers. IBM Cloud Backup has costs 7x higher than Azure.

Cost and SLA were important [in our] decision to prefer Azure Backup over others. The customization of existing policy with an archive of data was not available in competitors so we had preferred Azure Backup.

When it comes to protecting VM's in Azure, Azure Backup is the way to go versus offerings from Commvault. If you only have the infrastructure in Azure, Azure Backup is the much more attractive solution because it's built into the product, offers ease of configuration, and ties …

Main advantage is the integrated nature of Azure Backup, it's integrated in the Azure UI for VM's so it's quick to enable/access.

Egnyte
Chose Egnyte
Egnyte was the clear winner, given how the access works and how it can scale over time. It allows folder access control at every folder level, meaning you won't have to restructure or create a new site just to isolate specific data.
Chose Egnyte
Egnyte syncs with Windows machines better than any competitor I have come across. The service focuses on just this platform and their in depth focus shows in the end result. Google is not really made with Windows in mind. Box is cumbersome and the web portal is not easy to use. …
Chose Egnyte
Egnyte is already up to Dropbox because of its features and its interface we can easily understand Egnyte but dropbox is very hard to understand security is more in Egnyte as compare with dropbox so I think Egnyte is heading in the right direction and Egnyte team is doing a …
Chose Egnyte
I have also tried Azure Backup but Egnyte has more smart features than this. As I am using their platform for some time so when I get stuck anywhere I just contact their representatives and they respond on time. Listen to queries very carefully.
Chose Egnyte

Chose Egnyte
Egnyte provided Quarem the most robust and secure environment. Additionally, Egynte makes organizing the files very simple, saving my team time and money.
Chose Egnyte
At the time when this was implemented (over 5 years ago and still in production), there were issues with syncing and reliability that Egnyte did not have, and have continued to impress with. Other providers have improved a lot and Egnyte is fairly costly, but switching costs …
Chose Egnyte
Egnyte provided a secure and reliable platform for our specific need [for] secure file sharing. We do not rely on Egnyte for syncing files or for a corporate internal file share, which is how we use Google Drive. But, we are pleased with the customizations and tracking of …
Chose Egnyte
I have used DropBox a lot in the past which is similar but not as well suited to handling large amounts of data and is more complicated to use.
Chose Egnyte
We also looked at Dropbox and a few others, and we found that Egnyte was (at the time) the ONLY HIPPA and Part 11 compliant software on the market. We loved the security features in Egnyte and felt safe trusting our data to such an innovative and reputable company. We are …
Chose Egnyte
I think that Egnyte is a good tool especially when you need to share files within the same company or organization. I think that the layout is much better and updated than Dropbox. The downside to Egnyte is that you cannot edit files within the tool like you can do for Google, …
Chose Egnyte
Egnyte has a much easier management console and it's easier to share files and create a directory of files etc. The overview is more simplified. Onedrive, however, has the option to collaborate in documents in the application itself. But Egnyte should have this feature in the …
Chose Egnyte

Chose Egnyte
Egnyte is easier to use and doesn't have as many glitches. It's pretty seamless to edit something and it saves multiple copies of a draft. It's easier and cleaner to search, set up admin rights and you can set it up to store automatically. I had some major issues with Google …
Chose Egnyte
I did not select Egnyte - my company used it when I started to work here. I don't have another program to compare to but we all have been very happy with the system. We plan to use it for as long as possible. It is super easy to use and we love that it has the ability to open …
Chose Egnyte
Egnyte has significantly more structure out of the box than Google Drive or Dropbox. While Google Drive is much cheaper, and Dropbox has more potential in the right hands; Egnyte just works immediately in an enterprise situation. There are other enterprise level solutions, like …

None of these other solutions had document tracking or search features that could even hold a candle to Egnyte. Out of all of them box had the best, then we tried Egnyte and it blew then all out of the water.

By using Azure Backup, you can back up your NAS device you use locally as a file server, virtual machines you use in [a] production environment, critical databases, and everything you can think of. I do not know if there are scenarios that are not suitable, it meets all my needs.

If you're simply sharing and syncing across devices and don't care about granular security permissions, this is an easy win. If you're needing more control over the ability to restrict users from deleting folders, sharing folders, and allowing only certain groups to be able to view a folder, this can work but will ultimately give you arthritis as you'll end up having to perform a multitude of clicks for a task that should be able to be done in a fraction of the action. Have a folder template that allows for the first two levels of folders to be view only and the third level allowing file/folder creation and deletion? Have fun setting each of the third level folder's permissions-- they should give out free wrist braces. When discussed with their engineers about this function, a suggested $28,000 custom script was suggested. I don't believe them when they say that they haven't heard of other customers wishing to assign rights to multiple folders-- Something any sort of real admin would require. It simply isn't important to them, which is fine. The current ability

Pros
  • Azure Backup is fast! Coupled with the fact that Microsoft created Azure and Windows - these two operate phenomenally together!
  • Administering the backups inside of Azure is a breeze. The ability to mount, restore entire backups, or recover files, has been made very easy. You do not have to download any media to recover something, you do this all in the cloud and it gets mounted in Microsoft's systems. Making this process less than a quarter of the time you would have spent with your 'other' backup solutions.

  • Drive map tool on Windows and flexibility on client configuration, can change drive letters fairly easily if needed.
  • New user setup is straightforward and permissions not too difficult to set up and assign.
  • Support has been fairly responsive and helpful with issues as they have come up.

Cons
  • backup schedule calendar would be cool
  • Backup vaults should ask if you want to send notifications when you first set it up, there have been a couple of times when I noticed a month later that, backup job failures were not configured to send email notifications.

  • We often have issues with WebEdit, changes not saving/overwriting
  • No functionality to drag and drop files/folders within the UI, can only move things by going through Move > Select location
  • When previewing Word files in the browser, tracked changes are not shown so there can be misunderstandings when quickly reviewing documents

We found that usage of Egnyte in our supported clients, with sufficient bandwidth, provided all the features and stability we required. The billing setup was fair and the support provided was ample for end users and well as our in house admins. There was a concern about high usage clients but this was taken into account during the vetting process.

Usability
Azure backup is easy to implement, accessible by using the web portal GUI, and has the ability to restore at the file level or the complete VM. We have experienced zero issues with the backup process or performing file-level restorations. We have not restored an entire VM to date.

Really easy to use the interface. The web browser is very intuitive and I have not had any notable issues with this. It's easy to work on documents as a team, and the only issues we have to tend to come with Apple apps and downloading large files to WebEdit. It's very similar to the filing systems that come on Apple and Windows devices so not a steep learning curve.

Egnyte works very well across all platforms and as an add-on to other programs. Load time is close to nothing. Reports can be made in no time as well. All in all no performance issues. We can see that it depends on the local network connection. If you're running with fiber there won't be any issues.

One of the differentials of the solution is the high level of guarantee and support of the Azure Backup solution. Microsoft is a reference in a technology company with a highly trained support team and helps us with any questions or technical problems with the tool. Service is fast and efficient with trained engineers.

I never had to reach out to customer support for Egnyte. I don't know any coworkers who have had to reach out to Egnyte for support either. As far as I am concerned, the support team is doing a good job since I have not had to reach out to them.

The cost, not only in the short term, but in our long-term calculations.
Even in need of improvements, the pre-sale and post-sale support is very good.
The ease, like many Microsoft products about scheduling backups, the friendly interface, the fact that there is no need for an expensive resource dedicated to this backup and some other details, made us choose Azure Backup.

Return on Investment
  • It allowed us to have our VMs protected very quickly and with simple implementation.
  • It saved us from taking backups from Azure workloads from the on-prem environment, or even deploying a Backup environment on the cloud.
  • It has a low/'controlled' cost as you "pay-as-you-go."

  • The promising advantage of Egnyte is that user can access their files from the cloud anywhere without any cumbrance like connecting to VPN or other third-party soft wares.
  • No risk of data loss.
  • The platform is lacking in changing the parent administrator of a folder as if one person is the administrator of the file or folder and when needs to change it becomes clunky and does not supports it properly.
