Chose Braintree, a PayPal service
In my opinion, Braintree, a PayPal service, have a better user platform which makes it easier to see your daily/weekly/monthly revenue figures and processing refunds is simple to. Having functionality between Paypal & Braintree has been useful too which is why we opted to use …
Chose Braintree, a PayPal service
Braintree is better at handling international payments and supporting a variety of payment methods that can all be configured from the same dashboard. Braintree supports PayPal, Venmo, Apple Pay, Google Pay, etc. in addition to simply credit cards like Stripe. Braintree has a …
Chose Braintree, a PayPal service
Braintree allows our customers to integrate their existing merchant processor to the Braintree gateway, whereas the other options require you use their merchant processor (full stack).
Chose Braintree, a PayPal service
We went with Braintree without trying or even investigating other alternatives which was a shame.
Chose Braintree, a PayPal service
Paypal's Business plan has a monthly charge in addition to the per transaction charges if you'd like to use recurring billing. Braintree gives you recurring billing options without the monthly charge and automatically sends a transaction receipt to the client each month. Once …
Chose Braintree, a PayPal service
We used Braintree over Stripe because our developer was more familiar with Braintree and was able to integrate it the way we needed to. However, Stripe seemed like a good option but there wasn't any compelling reason in price or other features that made it worth taking more …
Chose Braintree, a PayPal service
We started using Chargify, but migrated to Braintree due to its more up-to-date libraries and easy integration with Paypal. We have not tried any other competitor, however, Stripe seems very interesting, specially now that their cross-country support is really broad. We are not …
Chose Braintree, a PayPal service
At the time Braintree was cheaper and much quicker and easier to implement then Barclaycard. Braintree will pay you in the currency of your choice (within reason) which is a distinct advantage over PayPal which is limited to your domestic currency.
Chose Braintree, a PayPal service
We use Braintree because we got recommended by another user, it has no fees at the beginning and it's very well documented.
Chose Braintree, a PayPal service
The price and quality has been a part of why we chose Braintree as our main payment method. We started with PayPal but as the business was growing, we needed a system that was easy to implement to get paid by cards. We looked into Stripe, but it was more difficult to implement, …
Chose Braintree, a PayPal service
Prior to Braintree, we used authorize.net which is actually great however authorize.net's rates were not as competitive as Braintree's. One advantage that I would have to give to authorize over Braintree is their incredibly robust system which has settings and customization …

Chose Maxio
Maxio (via information we found on their website and in the initial sales call) seemed like the most comprehensive fit at the time and we liked the interface. We eventually found out that there was a massive gap between what was promised us and what was actually delivered. …

I inherited SaaSOptics from several predecessors that worked on it before me. I believe they used Chargebee or Chargify before SaaSOptics, but I haven't used them. I pray that the market comes up with a better product for subscription revenue management, SaaS metric reporting, …
Chose Maxio
The reporting is better than what I've used in other products. I have been very impressed with the range and availability of the metrics. It's been a few years since I used Recurly regularly, but I have no need to look elsewhere for billing management needs after working with …
Chose Maxio
QuickBooks is what we originally used for invoicing, but we outgrew that and it was taking up a lot of time to manually create invoices. We also were tracking invoicing on an Excel spreadsheet for 500 customers, so there was a lot of room for error. SaaSOptics eliminated these …
Chose Maxio
Chargify is easier to use and manage. The Achilles heel is the 3rd-party integrations, where the options are limited. If managing a few products or businesses, this can be the more ideal option. WooCommerce has easy integration with WordPress but it requires the help of …
Chose Maxio
We did not evaluate other options. We decided to go with Chargify based on the ease of use and the ability to have multiple sites within one account. It accomplished what we needed to and for a price that was within our budget. At the time, Chargify was a great fit and we …
Chose Maxio
The other products (QuickBooks and Salesforce) are complementary to SaaSOptics. I have not used any products that compete directly with SaaSOptics although I understand there are several out there.
Chose Maxio
I researched other options for Revenue Recognition, but SaaS integrates with QB Desktop, was reasonably priced and met all of our objectives.
Chose Maxio
Insight squared did not integrate with HubSpot which is what we use as our CRM. We chose SaaSOptics because it offered GAAP compliant revenue recognition, great reporting, and the user experience quality was high.

Zuora is a B2C subscription billing system best used for companies like Netflix. For a B2B company, the sales process can be much more complex and Zuora was never able to handle that. For the 2 years we struggled with Zuora (now referred to the dark ages within our company) we …
We evaluated Recurly early on but rejected it because at the time it did not support the payment gateway we needed, and lacked some metered billing stuff that we needed. I understand they now have improved, but we did not go back to re-try them.
Chose Maxio
We evaluated several recurring billing services - but Chargify was the only one we found that supported our current merchant portal. They had the widest selection of merchant portals - and the most competitive service fees.
Chose Maxio
I was not part of the decision to select Chargify.
Chose Maxio

Chargify met a list of set requirements and our budget at the time. The main items were:

  1. Salesforce integration
Chose Maxio
We previously used another recurring processor. Although their product worked well and was much cheaper, their customer service became increasingly less responsive. Chargify's API is equally easy to implement as our previous recurring payment processor..
Chose Maxio
Pricing ends up being pretty close across the board with their main competitors. What it came down to for us is having a vendor that went the extra mile and we felt that Chagify met that and they have exceeded that expectation.

Braintree is a good payment processor if you are looking to accept multiple payment methods across multiple geographies and localizations. It is also a good place to keep a single source of truth for customer payments and keeping payment methods on file. If you are only in one geography or would be fine with accepting only a single payment type, Braintree is not a good choice.

SaaSOptics is awesome for growing companies that want to automate their invoicing. I like that it is also aimed at subscription based sales structures rather than sales that occur at a single point in time (but has the ability to support both). SaaSOptics makes it super easy to keep track of subscriptions, renewals, co-terms, etc. The reporting is a great feature, but we are unable to use most of the reports as we are a cash-based accounting firm. SO caters to accrual accounting and GAAP compliant firms which makes sense as it is the most commonly accepted accounting basis here in the US, but many small SaaS start-ups are still operating on cash basis. We are one of those companies, so we are able to get a ton of use out of the invoicing side of things, a lot of the reports are useless for us. We also wish SO had a commission module since we already integrate our CRM and accounting softwares into it, but that is not a make it or break it for us. We love the time SO has saved us.

Pros
  • Extremely reliable which is incredibly important for payment processing
  • Accepts all payments types we need to be able to accept from all around the world, which is very important for an international company like ours
  • Has a great, easy to use API for building out additional functionality that Braintree itself doesn't support

  • Chargify's API is solid and easy to use, including JSON and XML interfaces.
  • Chargify's customer service is responsive and thorough; always making sure your needs as a customer are met.
  • Chargify listens to its customer base and their suggestions for feature enhancements.

Cons
  • Not all companies support the use of Braintree. I wish there was more back-end support on some of the sites we wanted to use. This is more about the sites we want to use and less about Braintree, but it's worth mentioning.

  • We have contracts that are 12 months long but customers pay monthly. When terms change (raise or lower price) mid contract, changes are not easy.
  • AR collection was an issue. However, SaaSOptics just released a report to track outstanding invoices and it works great.
  • Integration with QuickBooks is OK but it isn't straightforward to issue a credit memo for a particular customer.

There's a huge cost in migrating payment providers, and we're very happy with Braintree so far.

Usability
As a product, functionality has been fine for us. In our experience, some issues during On Boarding but because we had a dedicated Account Manager assigned to us, these issues were dealt with. Now we are a customer, it feels like they have stopped caring about us or aren't interested in working with us to resolve any issues we have.

Their support is a joke. There's nothing "supportive" about them. Every time I call in with an issue no one has an answer or even a recommendation. I am put on hold and no one ever comes back. It's time to find another processor.

They are willing to help with most challenges and are pretty easy to get ahold of by phone. They are limited in their reach, when it comes to bulk cancellations, along with some other bulk edits. It is no fault to them, Chargify is just a system that hasn’t been upgraded much over the years.

Paypal's Business plan has a monthly charge in addition to the per transaction charges if you'd like to use recurring billing. Braintree gives you recurring billing options without the monthly charge and automatically sends a transaction receipt to the client each month. Once it is set up it is completely hands off which saves a lot of time.

Bank of America merchant products. They charge extra for setups that include manually entered credit cards. They also have high start up costs that would take a while to pay for themselves due since we don't process enough transactions to make it worthwhile.

Maxio (via information we found on their website and in the initial sales call) seemed like the most comprehensive fit at the time and we liked the interface. We eventually found out that there was a massive gap between what was promised us and what was actually delivered. Below is an excerpt to an email that we sent to the technical solutions consultant and sales rep three months after purchase: "I am, however, frustrated that a solution promised in the demo call ended up being a solution that was so cumbersome that 1) no one knew how to implement it except [tech consultant], who I was never able to get ahold of 2) it delayed our launch by two months and resulted in real frustration for my team and thousands of dollars in lost revenue and 3) brought more effort and annoyance to our customers than we were anticipating. I'm bringing this to your attention because I strongly feel that there has been a discrepancy between possible solutions and actual solutions. It is frustrating to make a purchase decision based on features discussed during a demo call, develop a plan of action based on what was discussed, and then have to iterate for months on end. It is also frustrating to hear that something is an "easy" solution by one team member and then hear it is "difficult and not recommended" by another."

Return on Investment
  • The competitive rates we are receiving with Braintree through their program for BigCommerce enterprise customers have saved us quite a bit in sales costs.
  • Braintree's fraud detection is likely set to very high as when we switched to Braintree we only received 1 fraudulent transaction in 2 years which is a huge relief.
  • Prompt disbursements have granted us faster ROI than other payment processors.

  • SaaSOptics has helped decrease the time spent on month-end. Their reporting is always accurate and reconciling deferred revenue is no longer a headache.
  • Increased accuracy in billing which has decreased the amount of invoice inquiries by our clients.
  • Sped up the quote-to-cash process with Salesforce.com and Stripe integration. Sales orders are processed faster and customers are utilizing "buttons" on invoices to submit payment details.
  • Increased our ability to stay on top of past due invoices with new collections module.
  • The metrics in SaaSOptics has improved financial presentations by providing more insight into our business.
