The Unitrends Recovery Series Backup Appliances are hardware developed for data backup and management. They cover enterprise backup, ransomware detection, recovery assurance, proactive monitoring, and cloud continuity into a single platform for organizations of all sizes.
There was nothing like Clumio to evaluate. We did look at some of the incumbent on-premise solutions that have cloud-based offerings. They all require hardware infrastructures to accomplish their job, thereby locking you into having to manage and update hardware. Clumio …
I started using Unitrends because i needed a backup solution quickly that was easy to setup. Its been used for years because I have not spent time evaluating another solution as our needs were take care of with these. as our company has grown then so has our data growth and …
To me it was a better and more cost effective solution. The cost to backup our data was cheaper. I liked the options it gave me. I was able to replicate between sites and backup to the cloud. I know that Veeam has the same features but the cost of unitrends was lower. It was …
While all of the products I evaluate could do the job and I have experience with them all, Unitrends' solution is just easier and more affordable. All solutions have negatives, but Unitrends' are so easy to live with that I had no reason to make a change. I'd also put their …
We compared Unitrends to Barracuda and selected Unitrends based [on] total cost over a three-year period. The Barracuda product was more than double the cost over the same three-year period. Additionally, both appliances offer similar feature sets and support, but the …
Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery's artificial intelligence plays a major role in all
the appliances that run a scanning procedure during each and every backup to analyze
the change logs of the files and identify if the backups are infected by
We previously used Veritas Backup Exec for our backup solutions. It uses USB 2.0 for a backup solution, which was very slow and unreliable to use as compared to Unitrends Data Backup and Recovery. Doing the backup over the network delivers a speedy backup, which is not possible …
I know many, many people use Veeam. And for years, there were free versions and such. For some reason, Veeam and I didn't get along well. I didn't like all the extra parts and pieces to make it work. Unitrends [Data Center Backup and Recovery] is one simple appliance. As I've …
We recently replaced Veeam Backup and Replication with Unitrends. The change was not too cumbersome, and I feel that we are to the point now where we are getting proper backups. They both seem to do the same thing from what I can tell. They both handle backup of bare metal …
Four years ago, Unitrends MSP was reasonable and met our needs, so we signed a 5-year contract. In my opinion, there are cheaper and just as good companies now. In hindsight, I believe we probably should have signed a shorter contract. It met a need that we had and were …
There is no such comparison between Zerto and Unitrends MSP as the features and ease Unitrends has given us are wondrous. We can now manage our backups and can get continuous backups. Zerto lacked many such features that we needed, most above all Zerto was quite complex …
Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery is a better backup solution than Synology DS, but much more expensive. We utilize both in our company. Synology DS has a great backup software called Active Backup for Business that is very easy to use and includes deduplication. The …
We have not used or tested any other products. Unitrends was already in place when I was hired. We are happy with what we have in place and do not see us making any changes other than upgrading or replacing equipment that is at end of life.
They are similar, Datto is a great fit for smaller businesses I feel, they have a great space in multiple sites and have custom builds for larger business. However I feel some higher end enterprise level setups require larger devices. Education is a great spot oval for …
We have a couple more years on our contract. Since we have purchased this, there are many more choices out there. Within the next year we will do research again to determine what will best suit our needs.
We were glad to have this option when we purchased it.
Symantec Backup Exec was the primary tool used for backups for years. We also used Veeam for some Office 365/Exchange backups. Unitrends once configured and set up works very well against the competition. Backup Exec interface was more user friendly. The search tool for …
We previously used Backup Exec as our backup solution. It relied on USB 2.0 connections to backup data to removable proprietary hard drives that were used in a Dell removable drive system. It was very slow and unreliable compared to Unitrends. Doing the backups over the network …
Veeam seems like a decent product which may cost a little more, Dell EMC Networker is a good product, but the interface is very clunky and difficult to navigate, while also being a much more expensive solution. I believe they are all good products. Based on reviews, …
From looking at the demo a few years back Veeam had some nice AD integrations that Unitrends lacks. However, for us the difference in pricing was too much to justify going with Veeam over Unitrends. Our main consultant does not have engineers that are familiar with Unitrends, …
Unitrends [Data Center Backup and Recovery] has a much better UI. It's easy to navigate. Barracuda was a little pricey, and if you were to reduce your backup size under the current tier, you had to call in to get them to adjust the space requirements on the bill. They were …
If you are in a highly virtualized infrastructure, Clumio is the only choice right now. It was built in the cloud, for the cloud, and handles on-premise environments very well. If your environment is lots of physical servers or lots of database servers, maybe start with a slower rollout of Clumio, but do not go with something else. Clumio is the answer to backup, now and in the future!
Application restorations will be tested fully automatically and measures what the actual recovery time is and what the recovery points are. It's analysis compliance with service-level agreements and also identifies any potential threats to data recovery. If the system identifies an issue, then it will notify the user and will recommend steps for correcting those issues. Unitrends Data Center Backup and Recovery provides fully automated and customizable dashboards which require less administrative interaction on a day-to-day process.
The setup of the device is very straightforward and simple. It's not confusing when configuring the backup device.
Adding assets to the system is very easy. The Unitrends agent that enables the backup of devices is simple to install. Once it is installed, you move on to creating a job for backing up the asset, which is also simple to setup.
Looking at the whether backup jobs are successful has a well laid out UI. You can filter by almost anything you want to find specific jobs or assets to check on the backups that were made.
When attempting to do a restore, it is a bit clunky on the process. While when it is completed it does work, but kind of confusing, especially on your first attempt.
We had to back up not only AD servers, mixed environment of stand-alone and VM's we also still had Netware servers that required a backup. It was a bit more tedious setting the Novell servers up for backup. A cleaner install for Netware would be nice, but not sure how big of an issue that will be since it is less used (Netware).
Unitrends and VMware work well with snapshots, but it needs to be emphasized that in some instances you need to REMOVE any existing snapshots of a server before you do different tasks, or it will not work at all.
I am 100% likely to renew my Unitrends support and keep my appliance. I don't see any products that have come close to being able to do the on-prem and cloud backups with the ease of Unitrends. This is a great tool and I can't imagine someone wanting to implement anything else.
Unitrends is simpler that most other appliances but I believe there is some room for improvement. The backup wizards could be simpler and retention rates need to be easier to understand. The registration of appliances with the appliance can be frustrating. Once the appliance is setup to backup the various machines it is a breeze to administer.
Clumio support thas been both responsive, definitive, and helpful. They have been great to deal with as we have worked our way from Proof of Concept, to production roll out. They are quick to answer emails, and also alert us when they see a potential issue. These new "proactive" vendor support models are great to experience
They're incredible, attentive, thorough. They make sure my issue is resolved and follow up. I'm usually behind on giving them a reply or an update. They have always gone above and beyond for me, and I'll continue to do the same for them.
We were contacted by Unitrends and they scheduled a training/install/configuration session with us. They were more than happy to answer any questions we had and we arranged an additional session with them to help us with the archiving. The implementation went very well with no major issues.
There was nothing like Clumio to evaluate. We did look at some of the incumbent on-premise solutions that have cloud-based offerings. They all require hardware infrastructures to accomplish their job, thereby locking you into having to manage and update hardware. Clumio displaces these systems by offering a true cloud-based backup with no need to manage hardware, or maintain hardware, or manage software upgrades. And new features are added all the time without having to upgrade!
While all of the products I evaluate could do the job and I have experience with them all, Unitrends' solution is just easier and more affordable. All solutions have negatives, but Unitrends' are so easy to live with that I had no reason to make a change. I'd also put their support up against anyone. You can almost always get someone if you need them, but I almost never need help.
