Exact Online vs. Sage 500 ERP

If you are a big company and have an active accountant then this system can be for you, it has many options but you need dedication. But the price starts from €39 and then you are not there...Most of the time you need other options to make it complete. Like ERP functions + €199~ want to book hours? +€129. And this is all per month... It goes up so fast that it's not interesting for small companies. When there are better options on the market that are even free...

Sage is wonderful for payroll and employee management. Although it has the capabilities to be a one-stop-shop program, it seriously lacks the interface necessary for wide use. I've had to consult Sage professionals on numerous occasions to explain and walk me through the program as there are so many redundancies. This program has wonderful potential, but they need to update the software and user interface before I can recommend it to any colleague.

• Complete pack with many options, use it as CRM, ERP or simply for your bookings.
• Many connections with external programs, webshops, etc.
• Automatic backups.

• Support... It's bad, and when you want to stop or step back it's near impossible.
• Price, they tend to increase it without warning, and with all the extras it goes up fast.
• If you wanna spend all your time in accounting buy Exact... It can be complex and many handlings needs to be done.

• The application is very functional, but the interface is a little "stale" compared to more modern applications.
• The underlying client software is written in an old version of Microsoft Visual Basic. I suppose SOME DAY, Microsoft will be discontinuing, although Microsoft has its own ERP software written in that same code.

We will renew our investment in Sage 500, mostly because the competition is very expensive and are bloated with options that are not needed.

I have been using Intacct for almost 10 years in 2 different companies and I just simply love it. I tried SAP (GUI) and Netsuite and they dont come close to what Ive seen.

The online training courses are not up to date. We experienced technical issues with two of the classes.

Keep your database and application in different servers.
Install Microsoft Office on your application server so you can use some of the data analysis tools in Sage.

I would not select Exact Online, but I can direct you to better options. Due to the high price, getting behind the competition and support I would suggest options like Zoho Books for you bookings, or CyberStockroom as ERP. And here in the Netherlands e-boekhouden.nl is a real nice, cheap, and fast working booking platform for the smaller companies.

500 seems much smoother at handling some of the basic accounting tasks, for example both issuing and later reconciling checks in Dynamics AX seems a little tedious.

• Negative: High costs and implement time turned 1 client in to the negative, and after 2 years of use wants to stop.
• Positive: Once an ERP connection is running you can automate a lot in the process.
