Considered Both Products
FACTS Student Information System
Chose FACTS Student Information System
They are very similar, but Blackbaud is more cost effective for a bigger school.
Chose FACTS Student Information System
FACTS is more robust and has more features.
Chose FACTS Student Information System
Switched from Blackbaud to RenWeb now FACTS. We made the change for affordability and because more software components were included. Blackbaud required the purchase of multiple additional modules.
Chose FACTS Student Information System
I greatly prefer FACTS to the other grade book systems we have used. I think it is far superior to Blackbaud, Renweb, and Edmodo. It is the simplest and most efficient system that we have used. We are so excited about the vast number of options we have at our fingertips with …
Chose FACTS Student Information System
FACTS is more robust and has more features.
Chose FACTS Student Information System
FACTS was the most appropriate tool for our needs at the time. While other Education Management Systems had some of the tools we were looking for, FACTS promised to be the most user-friendly without the confusion of too many "bells and whistles." This clean approach sold our …
Chose FACTS Student Information System
The integration of data across departments and use for both office staff and teachers is why our school chose to use FACTS. It simplifies log-ins, and changes made to data are automatically made in every application. Blackbaud seemed much more difficult to learn and was not as …
Nearpod
Chose Nearpod
Outside of Miro, Nearpod is my favorite program for leading a lesson. If I am presenting, and not requiring my students to perform any activities, then I really like Miro for presentations. If I have a large class, then I still prefer Nearpod to all others. Additionally, the …
Chose Nearpod
I don't know of a product off hand that does what Nearpod can do. Between the library of pre-made lessons, the ability to create your own lesson content, the ability to add interactive content, Nearpod offers a unique engagement platform for instruction.
Chose Nearpod
The custom, integrated, online content, along with school libraries, makes this product superior to PearDeck. Nearpod exceeds PowerPoint because of the ease of use, the student paced lessons, and the ability to embed CFUs.
Chose Nearpod
Nearpod stacks up well to alternatives because of growing LMS integrations.

We base our entire student data on the Student ID that is produced in FACTS. We create user accounts for technology and online textbooks as well as their lunch account, all based on the Student ID. We also can run many different reports using the SID as the data constant and all the other information variables are available as needed to report.

Cons
  • The new inputting process is a bit complicated.
  • Label creation is sometimes hard to get the info you want on the label.
  • There is no notification when an email does not go through. You'd have to look it up to know.

  • The notes feature in Nearpod sometimes has bugs that can be bothersome.
  • The free version of Nearpod is limited, and missing some of my most favored features.
  • Becoming proficient at lesson creation outside of Google Slides can take some time until you have mastered the learning curve.

It's user-friendly, the customer service is great, and we have a significant amount of time invested in training our faculty and staff to use many aspects of FACTS within their areas of responsibility. I really like the variety of reports I can generate which gives important data to our administration and Board.

Usability

While there is some learning curve to fully understand and know how to lead a lesson with Nearpod, once mastered successfully, Nearpod lessons are simple to create and deliver. When leading a lesson, it is relatively simple to see how everyone in the class performs and how well they participate and understand.

The support staff for Nearpod is top-notch. I have not had technical issues, but I did have a concern about my bill and they reached out to me nearly immediately to address the problem. I was very satisfied with how they handled the interaction from beginning to end. They did a great job.
