IBM Cloudability vs. SailPoint Identity Security Cloud

Good tool to start FinOps journey in a medium sized (or above) company. Currently missing AI capabilities that are now available with a lot of FinOps vendors in the market. Also, apptio currently does not have FOCUS dataset nomenclature, that can be worked upon.

We are happy with the management of the Id, accounts where the user can request any access easily. Also the many connector which Sailpoint is offering in order to onboard lots of applications is quite helpful. The access review module has also have been improve so that large campaigns can we work out easily.

Where we see some improvement is on the UI as here it is not so intuitive for the end user, so that we need to make lots of communications and training so that the user is able to understand how to use it.

For the administration and creation of roles it also would be great to have some improvements here to make it more easily its management.

• It shows the visibility into the cost and a single pane of glass for all of our cloud providers, multiple products in those multi-cloud. So it shows us our spending across the cloud by vendor, by product, and by all the tags that we have in the cloud. So it gives us visibility into many different directions in our cost.

• The access request work flow and back end process is exceptional. It effectively manages all of the various pieces of a request and presents the completed request to the provisioning agent as a single record. This is very helpful to the efficiency of the process since the provisioning agent only sees the completed request rather than seeing each component as it is approved. Other systems deliver the various request components to provisioning as they are approved but cannot be provisioned without all the components. Thus creating complexity for the provisioning agent and impacting the SLAs with what looks like a delay with the provisioning process.
• The system is robust enough to effectively handle the scale that we need. With 750+ applications, 24,304 individual entitlements to select from, and an average of 10,200 request transactions per month. We have never had any performance issues.
• The system flexible enough to accommodate our complex business needs without needing to customize the base system. We have been able to add significant functionality to the system in order to support the business needs by extending the code rather than altering the base code. This has enabled a simple upgrade of the system without having to re-apply code enhancements.

• It would be good to see if it offers integrations with wide variety of tools like Service NOW, MS Teams, DataDog, Slack and also with cloud native Notification services like SNS etc.
• It would be great if Apptio cloudability provides comprehensive documentation and training
• There is scope for improvement on Enhanced cost optimization Algorithms.

• Technical adoption requires a high level of training and experience by the implementing teams.
• SailPoint and partners offers very good training courses which I think are very good. An area of improvement can be in providing cloud VMs that users can work with to learn the IIQ tool more effectively at their own pace.

We decided to build our own home-grown FinOps tool, but the results of the proof of concept were very promising.

Very strong tool, nearly as clunky as older tools like CloudCheckr and much more fully featured than newer tools like Pileus. It's easy to get started with drilling into data for experienced FinOps users; others end users have a learning curve, but I don't think that's specific to Apptio Cloudability. The biggest drawback I find is the tool is buggier than others (e.g. CloudHealth), and constantly having to refresh a browser makes for a poor user experience.

While there have been few support cases where the experience was good. But in multiple support cases it's firstly delayed and even after weeks or months of time, team is not able to provide us with the RCA of the issue. All they are claiming is the issue is now fixed which I still see coming back after few days or weeks as we've never identified and addressed the root cause.

Training was adequate, but the real learning begins when you start using the product, like most things. All major functions were covered so as an entry point, was a good introduction to the product. The training pace was good as well, the areas were covered in decent depth, without being too much of an information overload.

I like IBM Cloudability compared to IBM SPSS Statistics because I think SPSS is a bit outdated. In my opinion, IBM Cloudability is more modern and helps present data better than SPSS could. Compared to Microsoft 365, I would say they are about even. One thing I like about Microsoft 365 compared to IBM Cloudability is data manipulation is a bit easier with formulas which I can't say I have been able to do with IBM Cloudability.

SailPoint is a more customizable solution than Okta, it is also not just a cloud application. Our use of IIQ to manage external suppliers via Azure AD guest accounts was not available on other platforms at the point of deployment. The integration with SAP and other Microsoft services is also second to none.
