We have been using Intermapper for years and have been satisfied with it to the point that we haven't looked at competitors. The maintenance cost is very low and the product does exactly what we expect and need it to do. The product has gone through a couple owner transitions …
Intermapper is a cross between WhatsUp Gold and Nagios. Whatsup gold being for a less technical end-user and Nagios doing more than just SNMP scans and up down monitoring.
We felt, with both pricing and level of complexity, that Intermapper was the right solution. We looked at WhatsUpGold, but the price was too high for us at the time. We looked at Nagios, which is free, but we didn't find it intuitive.
I selected Intermapper because it was so easy to customize the display to exactly what we wanted. I wanted something that changed colors based on availability and something that we could display on TV's for our NOC. This fit all the criteria perfectly.
I have 15 years invested in Intermapper, so my inertia to keep from changing is relatively high, and the cost to do so would be higher than just renewing the license each year. Traditionally though, Intermapper requires less work to get going, and less work to implement a given …
Some of these other packages have some very sophisticated capabilities that Intermapper lacks. The problem is, not too many IT departments have the bandwidth to set them up properly and us the sophisticated features and maintain them. So why not get something that does what you …
We used to use What's up Gold for our network monitoring but Intermapper seems to have better mapping capabilities. We used to use Ciscoworks for monitoring our routers and switches but it was limited to just those network devices and was a pain to set up and manage. We …
InterMapper offers a cheaper and easier network map over SolarWinds Orion Network Atlas. It lacks SolarWinds graphs, reports and statistics. For monitoring, alerting and at a glance information, InterMapper is hard to beat for the price.
If you've never mapped your network out before, download a demo of Intermapper and let it run. Your jaw will drop as your network grows before your eyes. If you have your network already mapped, you still would like InterMapper because it will find stuff you did not even know you have. If I were a network consultant, the first thing I would do when I hit a client's site is to start a scan with Intermapper. You will very quickly learn what the topography is.
The product works well and is very easy to maintain. As such, we haven't had many occasions to use support. When we have called them they were easy to contact and responsive to our questions. We have had the product for years and it may have been a year or better since the last time we contacted them.

The product has gone through a couple owner transitions and still is a effective and when we first procured it.
