Microsoft EdgeShift
Considered Both Products
Microsoft Edge
Chose Microsoft Edge
Both run on Chromium, so it's the same browser, but in terms of manageability, Edge has the edge!
Chose Microsoft Edge
They are all at the global same level. Using several web-brwoser allow segmentation to use one or other for specific use-case.
Chose Microsoft Edge
I actually use all three products for different tasks. I find it helpful to use different products so that I am familiar with them. This allows me to assist coworkers who use different products. I am familiar enough with each similar product that I can help other employees …
Chose Microsoft Edge
I used to use Chrome exclusively, but once I started using Microsoft Edge, I noticed that they have some innovative features that Chrome didn't originally have to manage search results. Microsoft Edge seems to have forced Google to improve their features. Now I use both about …
Chose Microsoft Edge
Edge had better software development than Chrome. The security is superior and the features you get in Edge outweigh what Chrome offers.
Chose Microsoft Edge
We selected Microsoft Edge because we had a certain business need that utilized their Microsoft Edge in IE Mode. Once we began to use the browser more, we found that it was much less taxing on our system's resources than other browsers, especially Google Chrome. Less RAM being …
Chose Microsoft Edge
I would say that all 3 (Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge) compare well against each other. I've heard of many organizations trying to push Google Chrome as the superior of the 3 but in my opinion Microsoft Edge (which came pre-installed on my laptop) was the go …
Chose Microsoft Edge
Microsoft Edge is bundled with both of my laptops, but I have no reason to get rid of either. Opera, when I used it, was a bit clunky, and frankly a little bare-bones for my liking. Firefox is an equal for Microsoft Edge, but has an issue with stability on my personal laptop. …
Chose Microsoft Edge
Microsoft Edge provides a free GPT-4 functionality where I can avail the upload feature of files for summarization.
Chose Microsoft Edge
I would use Microsoft Edge usually over Google Chrome. Chrome is useful because it helps keep continuity between the different devices you might be using for work. I would still choose Microsoft Edge over Google Chrome because I like the layout better, and it does a better job …
Shift
Chose Shift
I used to use a similar product called Station. In all honesty, Station was better but was discontinued. Shift is the nearest equivalent and works just as well. Station was free, Shift is an annual payment so I have peace of mind it's more likely to be around for the long term.
Chose Shift
While I have not looked into other apps, I have considered (and do use, to some extent), Google Profiles. In my opinion, Shift is much preferable to Google Profiles and works much better!
Chose Shift
Microsoft 365 is great in terms of the features of each program, but switching between the programs isn't quick. Shift allows me to manage my email accounts and my Google Drives, as well as create documents, spreadsheets, and slides using Google's tools all within the same …
Chose Shift
I found Shift first and never needed to look for any other tools. It met my needs and I don't want to have to get used to a different tool.
Chose Shift
I also use Mailplane but it's not on the list. Shift just works and works really well. I dont like apps that try to be something that it's not, adding silly features just because. With Shift I load the app and I can see all the emails and other apps I need to get my work done.
Chose Shift
EasyMail had issues for me. It worked a lot like the browser version of Gmail and lacked some of the features Shift provides. I haven't used it in a while, but when I was using it, I often had difficulty printing and saving emails and attachments. Mailbird is very good, but …
Chose Shift
Shift stood out because it’s like having multiple of the other apps all rolled into one. It handles email better than most others multi-account switching better than Outlook, and app organization better than Station. If you’re managing multiple email accounts and communication …
Chose Shift
You can not even compare Shift to those two. Those two UI are very difficult to navigate, the softwares also lag compared to Shift. They also lack a lot of features that Shift has, like Chrome Extensions. Those other two only offer minimal extensions where you can get any …
Chose Shift
It's not on the list, but I used Franz, another consolidated messaging app. It's not nearly as fully functional as Shift and was clunky/slow.
Chose Shift
As a team, we use many different apps to try and create easy, clean workspaces. However, nothing compares to Shift. It is 100% in a league of its own, and we have never encountered anything like it before. Its user interface and abilities are far greater than those of the other …
Chose Shift
Shift offers me better overall email and productivity tool integration. The browser-based environment is intuitive. Outstanding integration with Google Workspace tools. Excellent overall UX/UI. Setup is fast and secure via SSO login. Overall a great value. The company delivers …
Chose Shift
I like Shift better than anything else I have ever used to organize.
Chose Shift
I wouldn't say I liked the user experience and the difficulty in configuration. I generally like to keep my UX and UI as consistent as possible, and Shift does that. Moreover, I wanted to save all my Gmail labels and have their catalog precisely as on the Gmail website. …
Chose Shift
Shift outshines Rambox and Wavebox with its sleek, intuitive interface and seamless handling of multiple accounts. While Rambox offers a similar app integration model, its interface feels less refined and user-friendly. Wavebox is highly customisable but can be overwhelming and …
Chose Shift
Shift is unique compared to anything I could compare.
Chose Shift
Shift simply allows me to keep gmail and other google documents separate to my internet browser.
Chose Shift
I have never seen anything else like Shift and that is why I love it! It is very simple.
Chose Shift
I haven’t used others. I have used shift for 6 years.
Chose Shift
I have considered using Rambox as the pricing model is more appealing. I do consider Shift to be quite expensive.
Chose Shift
More general but also not as integrated and requires me to jump through some mime hoops to get a meeting going vs Teams opening it seamlessly.

Microsoft Edge stands up against other browsers, depending on the needs of your organization. It's fast and dependable, with a user friendly interface. Many of our legacy systems rely on old functionality that is utilized in the IE Mode. We also like that because we use other Microsoft Office products, we can open and edit those directly within Microsoft Edge. But many extensions we'd be interested in aren't available for this particular browser.

I believe that Shift is suitable for everyone, even those with only one email account. Just being able to group email, along with Messenger, WhatsApp, and other apps, together is, in itself, a productivity hack. I have already recommended it to some of my other business owner friends.

Cons
  • Sometimes, some functions don't seem to work while browsing Incognito.
  • I'm not sure if this is an Edge issue, but if you set up the Passwordless Experience in Windows and don't have Windows Hello configured, when you attempt to view a password, it displays a prompt that doesn't work.

  • The browser doesn't always work. Some websites refuse to load, and others time out too quickly. It is not as strong or robust a web browser as Chrome.
  • Unread counts are not always accurate.
  • I wish I could set up Google Suite products as separate workspaces.

Usability
I use Edge daily - all day. I typically have 2 Edges open on two different screens as well. While Edge and Chrome are both built on the Chromium platform, Edge completely beas out Chrome regarding security, usability, and functionality.

Its pretty performant on my GPU based laptop as it can use the hardware to accelerate processing. However it is memory hungry. If I had a normal amount of RAM on my laptop I wouldn't imagine it would be a little slower

I have only had to use their support a couple of times, but was able to get an answer and things resolved within a couple of hours. There was no issue with contacting them, received responses and updates in a timely manner and they were able to resolve the small issues we had. It was a pleasure to work with them

I was completely satisfied with the implementation of Shift, rating it a 10. The process was straightforward and required minimal effort to get started. Key insights include the importance of pre-configuring the app with essential tools and accounts for the team to ensure a smooth transition. Shift’s intuitive setup and integration process allowed us to onboard quickly without disrupting workflows. Additionally, its user-friendly design made it easy for team members to adapt without extensive training.

I came from using a similar app called MailPlane, some of you older users might remember this app. It had a similar function to connect Gmail accounts so that I could use Gmail like a regular app. This app reached end of life and the developers no longer decided to keep the app active. I was then back into the market in search of a comparable app and my searched led me to fine Shift. I'm absolutely glad I did! 4 years later and I'm still using Shift. It was 2021 when MailPlane stopped selling licenses. If I remember correctly I switched to Shift around this time or possible before. All I know is I switched and never looked back and was extremely happy to find Shift.

  • It is good to have an alternative to Google...different results...which means more choices and information than from one source.
  • Sometimes Microsoft Edge information results is not as robust as Google so we need to use Google too.
  • The integration with Microsoft products is really nice...since we are a Microsoft shop.
