SAP Business ByDesign is SAP's cloud ERP suite offering, launched in 2007, designed for the SMB market. The product includes a broad range of capabilities including financials, human resources, sales, procurement, customer service, and supply chain.
Business ByDesign is a new platform, delivered entirely through a SaaS model, with functionality that overlaps somewhat with BusinessOne, which is also an SMB product, although not a true SaaS product.

Chose SAP Business ByDesign
Oracle did not fit the size of our company and the needs that we had. It was also much more expensive but the product itself was not really designed for our size. We selected SAP Business ByDesign, even over the regular SAP software, because it is designed for small and medium …
SAP Business ByDesign has all functionalities that other systems have and more. Additionally, SAP Business ByDesign can be used from activation. The processes in this system are ready to use. SAP Business ByDesign only needs a few initial configurations to work. SAP Business …
ByDesign stacks up well against the competition. Companies that do multiple things are usually the best fit (manufacturing, distribution, and service). The more 'modules' used, the fewer competitors will be able to meet the company's needs. It is not inexpensive, but if the …
As far as cloud ERP is concerned SAP Business ByDesign was the best in terms of what it had on offer for a professional services company managing projects and service requests. Also, I liked the SAP migration path and the move to running the whole system on the in memory HANA …
By Design was selected before I joined the company. Recently I have started working with NetSuite, which has its strengths and weaknesses as well, but is easier to customize to your business needs.
The accounting team went from struggling to keep data integrity and completeness to the ability to have more capacity to grow with the increased revenue and not need to hire any additional accounting staff. Now that we have completed one year on the system and had our …
I believe Syspro has more meat to it than the other software I have used in the past. I have worked with software programs that were in-house written and prepackaged programs as well. Our company is unique in many ways but is also pretty standard for manufacturing. We are too …
SYSPRO is worlds apart from E2 Shop System. Not in a bad way, just in that they target totally different size businesses. We had to move from E2 due to our growth and E2 could not facilitate our scheduling and logistical needs. E2 led us to a point that enabled us to afford …
We evaluated 8 of the top vendors 16 years ago before we selected Syspro and frankly, none of them came close to meeting all of our needs at a reasonable price point. We still look back at that process and think it was one of the best decisions we have ever made.
It is a good tool for small and medium companies. We really like it and it is easy to use. It is good for managing and following a lot of departments in a company, from sales, projects, accounting and finance to HR management. It is one place where we see the flows of various departments of the company. Licenses can be expensive but there are many different options to choose from to get the license you need that's the best fit for each user.
If your company is an ISO or AS9100 type company that needs to maintain traceability of your products throughout the manufacturing process this is a good fit. Additionally, it performs well with inventory tracking and warehouse management. If you as just a basic job shop that just needs basic functions such as inventory, scheduling, work orders, etc...I would recommend using a product more manageable and less expensive such as ShopTech E2 Systems.
Reporting is fantastic and is based on SAP's Business Objects design allowing a drag and drop UI for creating the fields you're interested in with the right views and filters
The Project Management controls are perfectly integrated into the solution allowing tight controls and easy set-up of projects. Everything flows smoothly from creating tasks in a gantt style control to being able to be entered into a timesheet. A PM can see project health from a cockpit view and make necessary decisions.
Integrations with peripheral applications e.g. eCommerce websites.
SYSPRO does this very well through the use of it's web services and e.NET business objects. This makes integrations very easy.
Non-stocked configurable product production and management.
Through the use of SYSPRO's product configurator, configurable products are easily set-up and managed by the use of selections, criteria and tying it to parts. This is particularly useful for companies that produce configurable products and want to give their customers the ability to customize.
Document Management.
Out of the box, SYSPRO provides document management through crystal reports (Syspro Reporting service Reports and Documents for invoices, order acknowledgements etc.).
Accounting functions like Nightly Processing, Month end closing, General Ledger set-up etc. are easy to set-up and manage in SYSPRO.
When we first began using it, there was no function for housing budget data for comparison with actual performance. An Excel-based tool had to be created to address this glaring shortcoming.
Their Projects and Contracts module is not as good as other ERP systems I have used. Tracking by Project for Sales and Purchases is cumbersome as it uses Jobs as the connecting point for the Projects and not the Project ID itself.
They do not have a way to have system to allow Non-Stock Part Codes to be kept in a table that you can use in Purchasing that go to a particular GL code which you can use over and over again. It only has stocking items, and all Items in a Warehouse go to that Warehouse GL code.
Similar to above the GL coding is not on the product but on the Warehouse that product is located in. I prefer it to be by Product not Warehouse.
SAP BYD work centers are consistent and easy to navigate once you understand one work center. The document flow tab that is in each window allows one to see all related transactions. Document flow is important because one is able to see the flow of transactions and can therefore reverse transactions by following the document flow in reverse. It is possible to group items in each overview screen to see what items are open. The system is working as hoped.
Because SAP Business ByDesign allows us to improve our work, reduce the operational steps, implement audit controls, allows us found standard reports or it allows us to create new ones if you need more than the exists are enough for your work or your needs. Overall, SAP Business ByDesign allows us to standardize our operations, enhance our work, improve our skills, work over a web environment or mobile interface.
I've heard many reports from our users stating how difficult Syspro is to use and navigate. From an average standpoint, the Syspro Administrator has to invest a lot of time in setting up the user for success. Once the groundwork is applied, SYSPRO's overall usability becomes fair easier to the average user.
The Business ByDesign support is stablished since you contract the service with SAP. SAP resolves according to the service level agreement. Currently, we continue with the service and we are using the support channels available. We are receiving the support. The SAP support gets an incident and after that, they contact us to resolve the incident, if necessary, they set the meeting to understand it or we explain the incident
I recommend implementing all workshops during the ERP selection that you need to know very well about the ERP software. It allows us to gather information to accurate the plan of the project implementation. Additionally, we must reach the high-level commitment to achieve the main goals, to define the RACI matrix and communicate to all project stakeholders.
By Design was selected before I joined the company. Recently I have started working with NetSuite, which has its strengths and weaknesses as well, but is easier to customize to your business needs
I believe Syspro has more meat to it than the other software I have used in the past. I have worked with software programs that were in-house written and prepackaged programs as well. Our company is unique in many ways but is also pretty standard for manufacturing. We are too large for a program like QuickBooks but too small for a much bigger ERP. Syspro is about the right size program for our company. The program has the ability to turn modules on that we need and customize whatever we choose we want at the time.
Great tool for me as a salesman, visibility into all my accounts and contacts. Great ROI for me personally as it helps me track my business prospects.
Easy access via the cloud for home, office, or on the go. Has mobile apps that are effective for simple tasks and reminders.
Great community to be a part of, tons of online resources. Also, have the ability to connect with SAP directly and with partner network, there are many layers of support.
