Considered Both Products
SolarWinds Task Factory
Chose SolarWinds Task Factory
SolarWinds Task Factory has a lot of SQL integrated SSIS in one location that makes it easy to automate nearly every business procedure without integrating with external applications.
Chose SolarWinds Task Factory
We really did not look at any other products. We had already heard of SolarWinds Task Factory previously. We hired Pragmatic Works for a consulting project and they owned the product at that time and implemented it in-house.
Chose SolarWinds Task Factory
It was here from a prior manager, no reason to change to something else.
Chose SolarWinds Task Factory
ZappySys is an alternative provider that we tested. However, we found the ease of use, set up and installation to be much simplier and quicker using Task Factory. ZappySys has a number of the same connectors but are more difficult to setup and the GUI is not as intuitive and …
Chose SolarWinds Task Factory
Task Factory does a fair job in terms of address parsing compared to COZYROC and also other variable features in terms connecting to CRM and SharePoint site.
Chose SolarWinds Task Factory
We wanted more ways to connect with other sources and Task Factory offer the best suited solution.

Task Factory was also easier to integrate with our actual code base and was cheaper than the alternative. We were very satisfied with our choice and we recommend Task Factory to …
Chose SolarWinds Task Factory
Cozyroc has a few more connectors, but Task Factory's focus on tasks is a better overall fit for us. ZappySys had some compelling features around web services which seemed a bit more robust, but that was not our primary interest at the time of purchase. Basically, all of …
Chose SolarWinds Task Factory
Dell Boomi, Informatica, Data Stage.
Chose SolarWinds Task Factory
Since I used Task Factory earlier, I went for it.
Chose SolarWinds Task Factory
Haven't performed a competitor analysis in 6 years.
Chose SolarWinds Task Factory
When we were doing research on if Task Factory was a viable option for us, we found that the large array of tasks that it offers and the low cost of all of it was much better than the competition. We found that we would have to buy a culmination of tools just to pull together …
Chose SolarWinds Task Factory
Task Factory is more than just components. It is more than just monitoring. It is an entire suite of tools for SSIS package development. And this is not a case of someone going wide but not going deep. Task Factory by Sentry One (formerly of Pragmatic Works) goes wide and deep. …
Chose SolarWinds Task Factory
I haven't participated in any other evaluations because we had Task Factory when I started here.
Chose SolarWinds Task Factory
No other product was considered because we knew we were safe with this product even when it was still Pragmatic Works (now Sentry One). Before using this product, we downloaded additional third-party tasks, some freeware, but a complete package like the one offered by sentry …
Chose SolarWinds Task Factory
We've only compared it to standard Microsoft, and we selected Task Factory after the 30-day trial.
Chose SolarWinds Task Factory
CData Software was evaluated initially, and while we chose to go with Task Factory initially due to cost and simplicity, in the end we had to purchase CData's product anyway when Task Factory was not updated to work with Microsoft Dynamics 365 v. 9 for months after it was …
Chose SolarWinds Task Factory
In the arena of SSIS extension products and services, Task Factory is a strong competitor and checks all of the boxes we needed to have checked at a very reasonable cost.
TimeXtender
Chose TimeXtender
For our clients, timeXtender was a much better solution. It offered a more cost-effective solution, easier integration, and better customer support for our complex client needs. The timeXtender team worked with us throughout the process to make sure we could create a success …

Since I started working with this great tool all data analysis programs have been running effectively. Implementation of projects and tasks have been effective and reliable. Data collected from each department gives us working plan on better management of various programs. The Dimension Merge SCD Transform helps us to load large volumes of data within a short period of time.

TimeXtender has worked really well with our customers who have different data sources using complex data types in large quantities requiring a DW-like solution that can consolidate all data sources at one-HUB. TimeXtender does this well, and provides automation capabilities, the ability to easily handle slowly changing dimensions, handing data lineage and data security very well. TimeXtender has the ability to be very customizable, allowing the HUB to grow as your business does. TimeXtender's customer support team is super helpful and will work with you throughout your implementation to make sure you reach success with the product. The ROI for timeXtender versus competing products (there aren't many that do what timeXtender does) shows the investment to be worthwhile for the majority of organizations in today's data-rich corporate world.

Pros
  • The Slowly Changing Dimension Component saves us a huge amount if time compared to the native SSIS component.
  • JSON Transform is really useful to convert record and send it to rest API.
  • The advanced derived columns allow us to use really cool functions that are not available in the regular transforms.

  • It has the ability to create one dynamic 'DW' or source of truth, consolidating all data sources in one HUB.
  • Ease of use, with a great UI that is easy to learn and adapt to.
  • Ease/speed of complex implementation.

Cons
  • It was built by Pragmatic Works who sold it to SentryOne and now Solar Winds, concerned about future support. SolarWinds is discontinuing support for related products such as BiXpress.
  • Had issues with connecting to certain versions of SQL Server - would fail when deploying one package - had to deploy the entire solutions.
  • Occasional random failures observed with the Filter tranform.

  • Product Marketing: As implementers and resellers of this technology, we loved it. But, convincing clients who had not previously heard of TX/Discovery Hub was more difficult than it could have been if the company had a larger marketing force behind it.
  • Relatively New to Market: it creates a learning curve for early implementers.
  • More information should be published on timeXtender's website about product lines, including testimonials.

Task Factory has become a key product for our use of doing ETL work in SSIS. Their custom SSIS components allow us to work simply on the data engineering side of things. We can ignore the lower level work needed to connect to disparate data sources. This allows us to work faster and provide more value to the business

I've not found too many tools to bolt onto SSIS that encompass what you get with Task Factory. I have used some Enterprise ETL tools like Dell's Boomi, but did not find it to be very intuitive. Task Factory does not leave you guessing how to use its components. Additionally, their support is very responsive and helpful.

For our clients, timeXtender was a much better solution. It offered a more cost-effective solution, easier integration, and better customer support for our complex client needs. Return on Investment
  • We were able to support our developers with Task Factory features and reduce the development time by 40%.
  • Recently Task Factory has changed their pricing module and it seems to be pretty costly for our process. Our business team has started to evaluate whether this is worth it going forward.
