Many IBM and Unisys mainframe applications may be Replatformed, or Refactored, depending upon the client’s requirements. In the case of programming languages such as COBOL, a Replatform option is available. This may be followed in a phase 2 plan where the COBOL code is Refactored to a popular modern language such as Java or C#.NET. Or, an application may be Refactored directly from the mainframe source platform, to a target Cloud. An example of a direct Refactor migration would be moving off a proprietary programming language and database, like Software AG’s Adabas & Natural, and other similar platforms. In cases like mainframe Assembler languages, there are emulators available, but generally speaking, a direct Refactor approach would be recommended in almost every case.
