What is Autodesk AEC Collection?

The AEC Collection provides a set of BIM and CAD tools supported by a cloud-based common data environment that facilitates project delivery from early-stage design through to construction. The bundle includes popular Autodesk tools such as Revit, AutoCAD, FormIT, and Navisworks Manage, with access to 12 integrated CAD and BIM tools.

Autodesk AEC Collection is a must

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Autodesk AEC Collection to design our BIM models, create bill of materials, for clash detection, cloud storage and collaboration, and dynamo scripting. It helps us accurately plan our construction projects and predict problems before they arise. We are also able to share the models with subcontractors to allow us to coordinate scheduling and avoid installation conflicts.

Pros

  • Clash Detection
  • Bill of material creation
  • Phase planning and material requirements

Cons

  • Dynamo scripting can be challenging if you are not proficient in python
  • Maintaining correct versions of models
  • Easier database editing via excel

Return on Investment

  • Significant material savings with accurate Bill of Materials
  • Labor savings using clash detection
  • Avoiding delays using coordination and collaboration

Autodesk AEC Collection: Not Changing the Game, Creating the Game

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Autodesk AEC Collection comes with multiple software that we use daily. The primary include Revit, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Infraworks. The AEC collections solve the problem of having multiple design software stored in the same place and allowing for users to access some or all at the same time. Users can collaborate on various projects without any major headache allowing for efficient workflow without getting in each other's way. There is more software included in this collection and we use the others on a limited basis but they work together to create a streamlined workflow within the office and on-site. We have around 3-4 new projects starting every month and all of them use the software from the AEC Collection.

Pros

  • Collaboration with multiple users and
  • Software for Computer Assisted Design
  • Saving and Documentation of Plans and Blueprints

Cons

  • Accessing software and updates can be a little more intuitive.
  • Downloading software was confusing at first but is easy after understanding the process.

Most Important Features

  • Revit
  • Collaboration for Revit
  • Autocad

Return on Investment

  • Most of the software we use in the office and in the field is dependent on Autodesk AEC Collection.
  • We have been able to record a 20X decrease in job completion time because of the AEC Collection.
