Azure virtual WAN has been deployed in our corporation to unify our networking and routing workflows. We are able to connect hubs between endpoints in a simplified way in a standard virtual WAN. We are using its powerful branch connectivity features to automate connectivity with SD-WAN and its other partner devices.

Pros

  • Provides a view of end-to-end flow across Azure allowing for automatic troubleshooting.
  • We are able to seamlessly connect our virtual networks to Azure hub.
  • Site to Site VPN connectivity automates on premise and Azure hub connections.

Cons

  • Integrations are limited within Azure. It is difficult to carry out multi-cloud integrations.
  • If you haven't understood your monthly cost you can receive price shocks.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

As I am working as a consultant in the Oil and gas domain in my current organization, we are using Azure Virtual WAN as our primary Cloud provider. So there are a Lot of Vnets in multiple locations, we are using Azure Virtual WAN for handling Site to Site VPN Connectivity, Routing, Intracloud connectivity, and a lot more communications between multiple sites.

Pros

  • It offers a seamless experience while connecting Virtual networks and Workloads via Azure Hub.
  • Lot of connectivity options present - site to site VPN/Express route etc.
  • Very easy connectivity and migration with on-premise sites and Azure Hub.

Cons

  • Learning and managing Azure Virtual WAN has quite a steep learning curve.
  • Flexibility and solutions are limited to the available feature set compared to a classic hub and spoke.
  • Sometimes can cost very high if not used efficiently.

  • Provides a rich feature set and automation.
  • All in one solution/service provided by Azure for connectivity, security, and monitoring.
  • Easy Upscaling and downscaling of the environment without any downtime.

Return on Investment

  • With Azure Virtual WAN we were able to centralize our dysfunctional network infrastructure.
  • The cost was effectively decreased as we were using Pay-as-yo-go model.
  • As this provides very good troubleshooting, we were able to solve the issues faster which resulted in a Good SLA, and helped in getting more projects from the customer.
