We use the 9800 Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers to deliver wireless access across several hospital facilities and freestanding ERs to provide needed coverage for medical devices

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We are using Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers in our Wi-Fi Infrastructure. They are managing all lightweight APs and we are collecting subscriber traffic to the Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers and then ISGs. There are some deep packet analysis is needed so I think application visibility center features may be developed further.

There are some interruptions when the number of APs over 5K

When there is a hardware problem one of the device in one Wireless LAN Cluster the other one takes in action very quickly and there is no interruption for client and AP traffic towards to the Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers. So the Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers very robust devices for any interruption. That is why we choose these devices for especially operational sustainability.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We currently have an old 5508 that is long overdue for replacement. We also recently added 9800-40 controllers to replace these and have slowly been migrating all of our access points to this new controller. The controllers have been used to monitor usage of the wireless along with providing insights into the wireless network. We have also used the controllers while troubleshooting wireless issues.

Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers are well suited to deploy wireless in buildings where wireless is a must. In one instance we use it in a building where a large number of wireless users are present and it is an absolute must that it works without issue. This building also needs a dense client buildout, which Cisco has done extremely well. We have had some difficulty in the solution supporting a large parking lot where wireless was requested though this was more due to physical constraints.

We are using C9800-L-F-K9 and C9800-40, which is implemented over 1200 sites in our environment where wireless is heavily used, it gives us flexibility to make use of wireless media with advance features with IOS-XE based Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers.
It helps us overcomes problems related to Infra and mainly in plant area. Where network drops on forks lifts and scan guns and other type of critical issues. With radio active tracec we can analyse what is happening and how to isolate it.

Our organization users want to move within our office premises for various business purpose activities, and for that we need connectivity also wherever they go within the building. We use this wireless connectivity to access internal systems such as email, hr systems and for attendance marking. Also the connectivity is important for collaborations activities.

For small scale Cisco has other options such as embedded controller options within the wireless access points themselves. Additionally if we are using Cisco Catalyst Center and ISE in that case using Cisco WLC will give us a lot of features.

We use the Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers in our environment to manage and keep updated our Wireless Access Points. The Access points in our environment originally were not keeping up with the bandwidth and traffic that was going through the Access Points. When we finally updated the Access points we were able to allow more traffic through. The traffic was able to be filtered depending on the different content we wanted to allow or restrict. The Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers also gives us insight to rogue access points or devices that are trying to connect to our Access points or our controller. This LAN controller really was a game changer for monitoring our wireless traffic.

The Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers helped our company provide the coverage we need with the Access Points. Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers was helpful in keeping the Access Points up to date as well and showed us the outside rogue devices that were trying to access our network. The Cisco Wireless LAN Controllers dropped the rogue devices and kept an record to see what IPs were hitting our network.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use this product to manage the connectivity over wireless. Like we have thousands of devices connected daily to our wireless environment. So we see who's connected, we have issues with troubleshoot. A lot of people need connect wireless. Right now everything is wireless from mobile iPads, laptops, and phones. We have to make sure they have WIFI coverage everywhere. And the product works fine.

Pros

See how many clients are connected. I don't want to go the technical, but it does a lot of things we need to see and address. Make our job easier to see who's connected, how many users, and the locations. Make it so easy for us.

Cons

So right now we're investing in the new wireless controllers. I think the conversion from IRS iOS XE, we're still struggling with it. So it is a learning curve for us.

So wireless line controllers are used to basically manage our wireless access points throughout the enterprise. Specifically, I manage the controllers for several hospitals, many clinics, and a couple of business offices as well.

Pros

It does keep track of our wireless access points particularly well I guess, and then just, you know, providing the current status of access points as well.

Cons

Oh my goodness. The GUI, the graphical user interface of this product, I'm speaking specifically of the 5508 and 8510 models needs a lot of improvement. I do not like using it. It's buggy glitchy. At times I have to reload pages several times to actually get any work done. Things don't get saved correctly. It's just I can't rely on it being consistent at all.

The interface using the GUI again to do parts of my job, to be able to make configuration changes to them, they do not want to stay. Well, when I make changes, they don't. I can't rely on when I hit save or apply that those changes are actually made. I usually have to go back in, refresh pages, double-check, and make sure things actually went and behaved the way that they should. So I have to reload pages multiple times to even get into and be able to see the information I'm looking for. I just have a really hard time with the gooey on those two particular wireless controllers that I use regularly. We have moved to a newer one and I don't have as much experience on that, so I can't speak as to whether that gooey is improved or not. I think it has, but it's still too early to say.
