Cordial Messaging Platform Review

Rating: 7 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

This is the email marketing platform we use to build and send our emails. It is primarily used by the marketing team but also used by our engineering department when new features are added.

Pros

  • Provides helpful desktop and mobile previews.
  • Sends emails reliably.
  • Allows for pretty robust audience rules.

Cons

  • Unreliable toggle between production and stage environment. Says it is in "Stage" when you are really in "production" and vice versa.
  • Non-intuitive process/interface to search for "contact data".
  • Poor process for getting Stage drafts into Production drafts. You essentially have to rebuild them which can introduce errors, rather than just an "export" feature that would move a draft automatically.
  • Message reports will add/remove days when you select a time range and export a report. For example, if your custom date range is "March 1 - March 31" you will get something like "March 2- March 30" in your exported report. You have to overcompensate by using a range like "February 28 - April 1".

Likelihood to Recommend

HELPFUL:

- Adding browse events to our website and subsequent automated trigger emails.

- A/B testing on subject lines for automated templates.

- Scheduling emails in the user's time zone.

NOT HELPFUL:

- A/B testing on subject lines for batch (manual) messages.

- Sending to users based on their optimal email open patterns.

- Stage vs Production interaction.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Cordial is the ESP for 1-800 Contacts and is used across the organization. Cordial was able to handle all campaigns and data associated with those campaigns in real-time. The tool is used for marketing, transactional messages, biz dev support, and internal communication from Human Resources.

Pros

  • Simple nav and layout of the tool: Messages, Automation, Content, Contacts, Data, Analytics.
  • Real-time updates of events and customer preferences.
  • Cordial team is excellent at building relationships and is quick to respond.
  • It's easy to research problems, use the tool, build using includes and excludes.

Cons

  • Difficult to aggregate data both in reporting and combining multiple lists or events.
  • No specification on errors.
  • A/B multivariate testing isn't simple. A user needs to be technically savvy since the campaign and blocks are created using HTML.
  • Ability to randomize an audience but not prioritize, split an audience based on percentage or total, or cap an audience.
  • A contact must be a Cordial user to receive a test or see content/creative.
  • No way to archive messages.

Likelihood to Recommend

Cordial has multiple options to create a message: single campaign, automation, orchestration and sculpt templates, which are drag-and-drop type functionalities but each of these blocks are based on HTML content so a user needs to be technically savvy. I would avoid using HTML includes as it is not possible to see which include a customer received. The team is fabulous, they know the tool and are dedicated to the success of the business. They are quick to respond and provide feedback. Reporting and analytics are very manual if you are combining multiple days in a test.

Cordial service and bold performance that keeps getting better

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Our marketing department and customer service team use Cordial ESP for sending both promotional and transactional emails, for two of our subsidiaries. Cordial has provided us with more than adequate tools for email creation along with high visibility into email performance, and optimization through A/B and MVT testing with machine learning.

Pros

  • Robust analytics and real-time reporting.
  • Event-based trigger messages and an exceptional drip campaign building tool.
  • Championing content through A/B and MVT testing with machine learning.
  • Great service from your dedicated CSM.
  • Dynamic Content.

Cons

  • Some of the tasks on the platform are still technical in nature and often requires the help of a developer or technical marketer. But I've witnessed great strides towards accessibility and ease of use for non-technical marketers over the past three years.
  • A lot of the templating must be built from scratch.
  • Deliverability insights (out of the box) could be expanded further.

Likelihood to Recommend

Cordial allows you to tailor messaging to the individual through personalization, dynamic content, and event-based trigger messages. Cordial is great for medium-to-large sized media publishing companies with a dedicated email marketer. Small businesses with lean marketing teams may experience some friction performing various tasks, but much of it is only groundwork, which once completed, will remove most friction.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We currently use Cordial as our main email sending platform for all of our Promotional and Transactional messages. Our sister company and human resources department are also utilizing Cordial to send out their emails.

Pros

  • The UI is very clean and simple. Allow for easy navigation.
  • The sculpt tool in Cordial allows for easy email creation.

Cons

  • Micro-interactions on the platform can be improved. (i.e. search functionality is delayed and causes the screen to refresh with each key stroke).
  • The Sculpt tool doesn't provide standard templates/blocks. They all need to be made from scratch.

Likelihood to Recommend

Cordial is a great ESP tool for users who are new to the CRM space. Their easy-to-use interface makes it a very straight forward tool. Since their platform is so new, their features aren't as robust as ExactTarget or Adobe Campaign. For example, ExactTarget provides ready to use email templates. If you're in Cordial, you'll need to create the templates from scratch.
