With GitHub Copilot now integrated into Visual Studio, they have a one-stop solution that eases their development process.

GitHub Copilot is beneficial when writing .NET code and needing on-the-spot assistance with development tasks such as code suggestions, bug fixing, and code optimization. It is also helpful when you are new to a technology and want to learn and use it faster. However, it might not be appropriate where you are dependent on GitHub Copilot. You can use it for assistance, but not as a replacement for your understanding and logic.

ChatGPT, Perplexity and xAI Grok

ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Grok are AI tools that developers use to boost productivity. However, GitHub Copilot outperforms them due to its tight integration with Visual Studio. GitHub Copilot can analyze all the code in your workspace and provide contextual assistance within your developing solution, allowing you to stay inside the IDE instead of seeking help elsewhere.

I use GitHub Copilot daily. It became a great time saver from the first day I started using it, and it has only gotten better since.
It helps me write the boring boilerplate code, giving great suggestions for what to write next, and it gives me ideas on where to go from my current location and onwards.

It solves the boring parts of development, the tedius creation of forms, writing basic validation, expanding enums, and it helps out suggesting solutions to complex logic - just make sure you read the code it throws at you!!

We program using popular programming languages. GitHub Copilot does an excellent job at filling in some of the blanks. It is great at reading the docs and showing up improvements to our code. While it is not always perfect, many times it is able to provide us with a solution that is very close to what we need and then we can make the necessary adjustments from there.

It is best suited for someone who has enough experience in programming to know what it is doing and why.

It would not be best for someone who is just starting out as it may cause someone to bypass some of the necessary foundations for good programming.

Basically, it is a tool, not something that is going to do the work for you. This is the way it SHOULD be.

Google Gemini

It has historically worked much better. However, as all of this is relatively new technology it is hard to really judge something since most of the time you are kind of using a beta version of a product. I believe things will get better over time. That said, Microsoft copilot recently removed the options to have answers read out loud and that is a huge detractor.

We use GitHub Copilot in our organization primarily for software development especially for code generation and code suggestion, its saves lots of time and helps us to develop our app faster with efficient code. Nowadays it become more powerful with the agent mode, now it has a capacity to perform very complex task with high success rate, if efficient prompt is provided.

Based on our experience it is best suited for us to develop Apps faster with the help GitHub Copilot, with its smart code suggest we can build our Apps 3x faster then before. It is also suited very well for the quality code generation. We can also test security of our Apps with agent mode which helps us lot to make our app more secure. For small code generation it is perfect, but if we want to build a large amount of code at once, then it may not that accurate.

Anthropic Claude

I have also used Anthropic's Claude code Its amazing, and I would say it is even better than GitHub Copilot. However, the only issue with claude code is its subscription price, which is very very high as compared to GitHub Copilot.

GitHub Copilot is used in my company to help developers write better and structured code. We develop applications using PHP Laravel, but sometimes developers don't follow standard coding practices, which can lead to issues. They also need help understanding how to define write logics via coding terms. GitHub Copilot has been incredibly helpful to my team, enabling them to write better code and work faster.

I believe overall GitHub Copilot works well and helps my development team. It integrates with various IDEs, including VS Code and PHPStorm. The Copilot effectively provides code suggestions and offers insights to help review code standards. The AI prompt takes the inputs well and drafts the code as per the prompts.

Cursor

I used cursor AI as well, along with CoPilot. Curson has its own AI editor, but Copilot works with almost every code editor. So I don't need to depend on just one editor, and I get the flexibility to choose my own editors. The billing is also good and doesn't require many coupons to write prompts.
