IBM Cloudability Reviews & Insights

I am an SRE from Booking.com and we use IBM Cloudability to view budgets across different AWS budgets, create custom dashboards and set budgets for each of the different AWS projects. Sometimes we also use optimize section to view if we can save on some of the costs and analyze rightsizing. Also we are using forecast for seeing how much the costs will be until the end of the month.

It is well suited for more non-technical people who are working across different AWS projects such as Engineering Managers or Technical Product Managers.

For developers or for users that are working on a single AWS project, using AWS Cost Explorer is easier and better in most cases as it provides similar features with a more familiar UI.

In My Organization, we leverage IBM Cloudability's various dimensions and granular data to get the curated reports to the business stakeholders and app-owners. we leverage the TBM studio to create the dataset which we have processed internally and the same cost numbers are used to create the org-level Apptio BI based Report which is used by all the app owners to get the costing chargeback related details for the given dimension, application for a given period of time. we also leverage CLDY Apptio BIs visualization capabilities to give the insightful reports to the CIO and higher Management related stakeholders on a monthly/quarterly basis.

IBM Cloudability is well suited for below scenarios: 1. An organization which has a requirement of creating the curated reports for the stakeholders with granularity as low as hourly. 2. An organization which wants to have an alternate Savings Plan/commitment related recommendations which can be referred and trusted rather than blindly trusting the cloud native cloud savings plan/commitment recommendations. 3.creating Apptio BI based visualization for the business stakeholders to get quick insights. According to me as per the current features of Cloudability, scenarios where Cloudability might be less appropriate: 1. An organization which is looking for a tool to automate the Cost sharing/chargeback related process. 2. An organization which is looking for a quick unit economics parameter to understand how they're doing. 3. Rating score for different clouds on the parameters like how the customers is doing in terms of the savings potential and savings relalized, which can be shown to management as a proof of success of FinOps Team/scope for more savings.

We are in the middle of our cloud transformation journey and starting to migrate more and more work loads to the cloud. IBM Cloudability has been helping our finance team a easy to use view where they can go and view our cloud spend. The fact that we have a multi cloud strategy, this product allows us to manage our spend better across vendors.

We follow a multi cloud strategy and use GCP, Azure, and AWS. IBM Cloudability allows us to consolidate the billing data which allow us to track spending through the dashboards that can be viewed by different stakeholders. Being an enterprise, it is difficult sometimes to allocate the cost accurately to different business units and this tool makes it easier to chargeback. While not the strongest feature but we did leverage some optimization recommendations that helped us reduce the cost for the VMs, databases, etc.

IBM Cloudability is the base for our Cloud FinOps practice. We extensively use Cloudability for cloud cost optimisation, reporting, visualisation, rightsizing, budgeting as well as implementing best practices.

IBM Cloudability is very easy to get started with and does really well with integrating different Cloud Service Providers. It does really well with cost allocation and reporting

So far we don't have any issues with Cloudability.

As head of the FinOps practice, I leverage IBM Cloudability on a daily basis for reporting, trending, optimization actions, and sharing the reporting with the organization. IBM Cloudability being able to provide a combined dashboard view across all three could vendors is a big advantage of the tool vs. having to stitch together various reports from the three cloud vendors, most of which are in different formats and taxonomies.

Large organizations across multiple vendors is a good fit. Smaller companies on single clouds, is a costly tool compared to native tools.

We use IBM Apptio CSA to manage Manage CRI portfolio for entire org

any situation where a company has a mixture of SP/CRI. CSA allows you to build a portfolio of and decrease risk while increasing RI commitment flexibility in the future.

Optimize cloud costs - IBM Cloudability helped our organization to optimize cloud cost at various levels. The rightsizing recommendations, business mapping etc., brought more clarity on cloud spend and how efficiently we can save cost. With IBM Cloudability, we are able to smartly allocate cost, define budgets and generate usage vs allocation reports etc.,

- It is well suited to get the recommendations in "Rightsizing". The best part is, you can create an issue and assign this to a teammate to work on.
- If you have a multi-tenant product and not able to manage the cloud cost, Business mapping helps you to map the cost based on tags like BUs, Cost centers and you can utilize this mapping to filter the required cost. This comes in handy when there is a shared cost involved.

I advise client on choosing FInOps products for enterprise clients. Apptio Cloudabilty always tops the list when it comes to featurset, product coverage and reach to multiple CSPs.
