ipMonitor is being used to monitor the availability of network devices, servers and services remotely. Although, SolarWinds ipMonitor is not being used much our customers there are very few which are using still this is not a bad feedback since SolarWinds has other monitoring products are are quite effective and hence ipMonitor is very less used.
Pros
Simple monitoring configuration wizard
Out of the box alerts
SaaS Service
Built in reports and dashboard
Cons
Lack of integrated visibility with other infrastructure since they are being monitored separately
Product uniqueness is missing
in-built integration with major services are required
cloud infra monitoring integration is missing
Likelihood to Recommend
ipMonitor is well suited where there is a requirement of SaaS based fault and availability monitoring requirement and where customers do not want to purchase heavy hardware's and software to run the show. All they have to do is to subscribe ipMonitor plan and start monitoring using the simple monitoring wizard. It also has a feature of auto remediation and hence much useful
Alternatives
LogicMonitor, SevOne, OpsRamp and ScienceLogic SL1
Although there are very less SaaS based tools available in the market, SolarWinds is somewhere in middle as compared to other tools such as LogicMonitor and ScienceLogic. Reason being the timing of the product launch and features enhancement. However current capabilities in SolarWinds SaaS products is improving day by day still it requires some more time to become a mature product including ipMonitor. Appoptics is doing great but the competitors are doing much better in terms of marketing, feature set etc.
I have utilized IP monitor for smaller network projects for over the past 10 years and it has assisted with giving some visibility into the network and reporting that we were able to produce for burn-in monitoring to successfully complete projects. I have also used ipMonitor in addition to the Orion Network Performance Monitor for local monitoring on a safety system in case access to the centralized management system is unavailable.
Pros
Visibility
Reporting
Alerting
Cons
Historical data
Configuration management
Likelihood to Recommend
I have been using ipMonitor for the past 10 years to successfully complete small to mid-size network projects by providing visibility of the network and the devices in addition to reporting to the client throughout the acceptance process. It has also proven to be a valuable resource when it comes to identifying network problems and improving overall network performance.
Alternatives
Zabbix
I had some limited exposure to Zabbix that was provided by the client for monitoring the existing network. I found it not as informative as I previously experienced using ipMonitor and we were preparing for a network migration. I ended up setting up remote monitoring using ipMonitor on a laptop and successfully migrated the network.
