What is Malwarebytes?

Malwarebytes is a antimalware application for home and small businesses, which blocks viruses, malware, hackers, viruses, and malicious websites.

Categories & Use Cases

Malwarebytes excellent when you need it a resource drain when its not needed.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We regularly use Malwarebytes to clean up stations throughout our organization or to diagnose issues if we start encountering unusual behavior, especially with browsers or on the internet. The scan has proven useful, but doesn't always catch everything, notably rootkits.

Pros

  • Finding malware.
  • Finding trojans or viruses.
  • Locating and fixing registry hacks.

Cons

  • The program is vast, and it is a resource hog on older machines; it can cripple internet and remote desktop usage.
  • Business pricing is egregious compared to personal use.
  • The program should offer a choice between always running in the background and running on an as-needed basis.

Return on Investment

  • Keeps PC's running smoothly.
  • Keeps PC's with novice users who aren't security aware safe.
  • Malware and virus definition updates are near daily and catch most things.

Malwarebytes - Still Relevant, Kicking A** and Taking Names!

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I am the I.T.

Admin. for our private k-12 school. We have been using Malwarebytes Premium

version for the past 3 years on most of our fifty (25) Admin workstations. We do not use

the addon VPN.

In addition to Malwarebytes, we currently utilize a subscription hardware firewall that scans

packets, provides for Intrusion Prevention Service, AV, Application Control, Web Blocker, Spam Blocker, Reputation Enabled Defense, and Botnet Detection.

So, we have a lot of protection. And believe me,

Malwarebytes still can find stop that makes it through the gamut and reaches

our workstations. And when that happens, Malwarebytes actively intercepts the

threats. It is not often, but it happens enough that the small price to pay per

machine is well worth the benefit.

All of our workstations are Windows

11 Professional. Some have mechanical hard drives, other SSD, and still others

NVME M.2. Every workstation that has Malwarebytes installed is still really

fast, that is to say, our machines do not appear to lag at all while running

Malwarebytes..

Pros

  • Detects outbound traffic to known malicious sites.
  • Very LOW resources required to run.
  • Extremely low false positives.

Cons

  • Could use a more intuitive menu system.
  • I would like the expiration to be on the splash page.

Return on Investment

  • Positive Impact: Have not had to remediate malware/virus infections since installed.
  • Positive impact: As far as browsing goes, we can boldly go where no man has gone before. No, really, I am confident when I am clicking on search engine results that if something get past my trained eye, Malwarebytes will pick of the slack.

Great Endpoint Protection - Poor Accounting System

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Be Careful!!! With over 1,300 endpoints protected for years, I can say this is a great product. OUR PROBLEM IS: Three weeks ago, I paid for a renewal for 88 licenses through their online payment portal. The next day, they reversed that charge from my credit card and made an unauthorized charge of DOUBLE, over $13,800. It's been three weeks, and they keep asking me to be patient while they figure out where my refund is. I even messaged the CEO via LinkedIn, and still NO REFUND! Who does this?

Pros

  • Low overhead
  • Vulnerabilities and Patch Management module is invaluable
  • Accounting is amateurish and unprofessional
  • Double billed on a renewal of 88 clients three weeks ago and no refund yet

Cons

  • ACCOUNTING - they overcharged me over $6,000
  • NO REFUND after three weeks
  • Messaged the CEO on LinkedIn and he "escalated" this to his team
  • Still NO REFUND

Return on Investment

  • Replaced worthless CISCO Umbrella and AMP with Malwarebytes.
  • 1,000% improvement in all areas of endpoint protection
  • Unfortunately, I can't get them to refund my money after they double-billed me.

Malwarebytes for Protection without Objection!

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Malwarebytes protects from inadvertent website selections. It is the only product that I use, in concert with Microsoft Defender. The users that I manage and the computers that I have recommended using Malwarebytes, have remained without incident after years of use. I don't use or recommend any other combination of products because of the success of protection; and my experience of other products affecting performance of computers. Malwarebytes operates in the background without creating objectionable performance issues.

Pros

  • Catches malicious websites
  • Catches malware activity
  • Ransomware protection
  • software exploits

Cons

  • They are constantly making the program better...no recommendations for improvement.

Most Important Features

  • Complements my Microsoft operating system protection

Return on Investment

  • You don't have downtime due to unintended malware downloads.
