A good solution for a great result

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I was looking for a way to improve my patch management for my SoHo network (partly private, partly commercial), to automate it to a certain extent, and, especially for security reasons, to get an overview of missing updates for the third-party software I use. The fact that driver and BIOS updates are also offered was an added bonus for me.

Updates for more anti-virus manufacturers like fpr example ESET
Remote access to clients

Likelihood to Recommend

I would recommend ManageEngine Patch Manager Plus at any time, or even use it for smaller customers. Regarding things like software deployment or remote support, another product would probably be more advantageous.

However, as a pure patch management solution, it is definitely more than sufficient and it would increase the security level enormous.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use ManageEngine Patch Manager Plus to automatically update our OS and applications during on- or off-hours. We had issues having our staff members update their computers; either they forgot or didn't bother. This software does that work, allowing our IT department to focus on more pressing IT needs and freeing up more time for their breaks.

Pros

Auto patching does its work
Easy-to-use browser portal interface
Portal reporting is simple to work with

Cons

Forcefully install the updates (e.g. MS Office apps), but warn the user doing so.
Remind (via a notification) the users to reboot every 15 mins even though they have already shut the counter down.
I wish we could update more than 50 computers manually at a time via the portal

This software is well-suited for small and mid-size businesses, as I work with 50 to 100 users.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

The basic problem was smooth deployment of patches and keeping the track of it, the other one was third party application patching and the said the solution was required is for offline systems. where the ManageEngine Patch Manager Plus has played a great role to provide seamless solution where all the above mentioned issues got resolved.

We use ManageEngine Patch Manager Plus to keep up to date all our Server OS and 3rd party applications on a automatic schedule. This saves us time and I think it is way more friendlier tu use than WSUS

ManageEngine Patch Manager Plus is a perfect replacement for WSUS and does even more. We started including 3rd party application patching in our schedules. So we can use the same maintenance windows to update VMWare tools for example.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use ManageEngine Patch Manager Plus to help us comply with our 14 day patching schedule, we have set up automatic deployments for both Windows and Third party apps, we typically install updates for most software using MS Intune but for all the smaller third party apps that tends to get missed, ManageEngine Patch Manager Plus comes in handy and catches most of them. It has definitely been a good asset when it comes to our security audits.

Inbuilt vulnerability with automated patching would be a great feature to implement.

ManageEngine Patch Manager Plus is great if you just need something to catch automatically deploy patches without the need to continuously check in with the system. It also has a test and prove feature that can push out patches to test on a few machines and then if it all works it will auto-approve the patch if you notice the patch does not work then you can manually deny the patch. If you're looking for a solution where you can upload your own patches, this is not it.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use ManageEngine Patch Manager Plus to patch our Windows Server estate. Previously we were using WSUS which was proving hard to manage servers with failed patches which would sometimes take hours to report in. ManageEngine Patch Manager Plus is instantaneous and makes patching so easy now. Fixing patching issues can be done within 15 minutes rather than hours.

Would like to be able to still install patches that are older than 3 months
Would like to be able to upload our own installers, but understand this is part of endpoint central

ManageEngine Patch Manager Plus is great if you want to have a single solution to patch your entire server estate. It provides great reporting for our Security team so we know we have the latest security patches. Since it's installation we have been able to patch third party software which we've never been able to do before.

We use Patch Manager Plus in an educational environment where finding time to update is hard for teachers. One of the challenges we faced was that teachers would not update their apps during the school day and have outdated software. With Patch Manager Plus, we set up our distribution servers, deployment profiles, and gave teachers specific times of day when their computers would update. This helped solve our problems by allowing devices to update and not hinder the work day.

More detailed explanations for “why” an update failed.
Better MacOS update support.
More customizable reports for building technicians.

Patch Manager Plus is a piece of software that does its job well under the correct conditions. This is not always perfect, and sometimes patching fails on a client system. This can be frustrating because there could be a number of reasons "why" a patch failed, but the system does not always tell you that in detail. I have been able to figure out that Patch Manager Plus will not update certain systems if the battery is too low, and the system is not plugged in. While I recognize this as a fault with the system, and NOT Patch Manager Plus. I still believe it would be nice if the software would tell me that on the back end, so that I can troubleshoot better. Overall, as said, Patch Manager Plus does it job perfectly under the correct conditions.

IT security nowadays has become of primary concern and given our very large number of PCs and Laptops (more than 1400) all connected to LAU’s network and having internet access, we realized that it is of utmost importance to have a solid patching solution. Up until now, we were relying on Microsoft WSUS for updating Microsoft products but over the past several years, it proved to be extremely unreliable and problematic. We tested Microsoft SCCM for the patching role but it also proved to be extremely impractical, unreliable and cumbersome. We did research to find out what are the best patch management (PM) applications on the market, tested 7 different products and found ManageEngine Patch Manager Plus to be the best effective solution for our needs. Now we have an efficient automated solution that keeps our 2000+ PCs, Laptops and servers up to date and safe.

It has a lot of very comprehensive rules and queries that can be used to group clients for the division of tasks
ManageEngine Patch Manager Plus can patch servers as well as normal operating systems
It has a rich user interface that is easy to understand and navigate
Supports patching Mac OS and Linux in addition to Windows operating systems

Cons

Patching based on AD groups. It does not understand AD groups
Provide more agent/user options
Work with Solaris

If you are managing a very large number of computers, I would say 1000+, the standard patching tools provided by Microsoft will fail to do their job properly. This is where you will benefit from ManageEngine Patch Manager Plus, being agent-based it is fast, easy to manage, and reliable. If you require functionality more than just patching, like security auditing, you have to look elsewhere.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We need some tested products for ManageEngine Patch Management and we choose the same. It updated my network very easily. Just create a policy on what to do and the rest will take care of ManageEngine Patch Manager.

Pros

All the patches are tested before delivered to us.
It's on cloud so we does not need to maintain Hardware and Network.
It also upgrades the hardware drivers & BIOS. But for BIOS only we use monthly updates no automatic policy just push to target computers.

Cons

Reporting needs to improve.
Support needs to improve. Ex. quick answer or timely answers. 6-8 hrs.
No prior information of client version update. They just pushed without intimation.
