TrustRadius Insights for NWEA MAP Suite are summaries of user sentiment data from TrustRadius reviews and, when necessary, third party data sources.
Pros
Useful Data: Many users have appreciated the usefulness of the data provided by the platform and found it fairly easy to interpret. They have mentioned that the test results were easy to interpret, and the student-progress windows were presented in a student-friendly language and view.
Ease of Use: Reviewers have liked the ease of deployment and positive feedback from both students and teachers. Students found the site easy to navigate, while teachers found it straightforward with not too many options to learn. The quick login for students and flexibility in the testing schedule also contributed to this positive experience.
Adaptive Assessment: The adaptive nature of the assessment, where questions get harder or easier based on student performance, has been seen as a positive feature by many reviewers. It prevents students from becoming frustrated and accurately assesses their knowledge. Some users have mentioned that even youngest children were able to complete the assessment independently due to its adaptiveness.
NWEA MAP is used for benchmark assessment of the students three times per year. I also use the skills checklists for progress monitoring of specific skills in ELA and math. All of the assessments give specifics on what the child knows and does not know. The reports should each date that the child was assessed and keep a "running record" of their scores.
Pros
The NWEA MAP assessment questions directly align to college and career standards.
The NWEA MAP assessment questions are rigorous and students must show a depth of knowledge.
The reports are extremely useful. I especially like that it reports the effort of the student.
Cons
NWEA MAP has technical issues during prime testing times (fall, winter, and spring). It is as if the system gets overloaded and cannot handle all of the students logged on at once.
I would like to be able to see the reports immediately. Currently, you have to wait until the next day for the scores to be available.

NWEA MAP is a great assessment for 1st grade and up. It directly aligns with the college and career standards. It can predict achievement on the ACT and state assessments. NWEA MAP used with kindergarten is not as aligned. It is very difficult for new kindergarteners to take. Most students guess because the assessment gets very long for them. It is a great assessment for the middle of the year for high achievers and at the end of the year for all students who are entering 1st grade.
Our district uses NWEA MAP Suite to do a comprehensive assessment, focusing on tracking the growth of students in grades K-8 through the school year. The computer adaptive assessment is aligned with the Common Core State Standards and Next Generation Science Standards. MAP GROWTH is part of the MAP Suite, which also contains MAP Skills.
Pros
NWEA MAP Suite calculates projected growth for individual students based on their grade level and RIT score for each subject.
Projected growth can be found on many different reports.
Cons
None, this software does what it claims.

The grade level norms are averages and should not be used to set expectations or goals for students. The student score compared to the norm provides a perspective about how each student, or the class, or the grade level is performing. The NWEA MAP test assessments reveal precisely which academic skills and concepts your child has acquired and what he/she is ready to learn. NWEA MAP Suite reports allow teachers to better target instruction based on students’ strengths and needs.
