Quickbooks Desktop for Mac.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Quickbooks Desktop for Mac on an as-needed basis in our company. We primarily use QBO, but a couple of clients did not want to change to a cloud-based system. QB Desktop allows us to keep these clients on and will enable them to be comfortable with their bookkeeping software.

Pros

  • Payroll Tax Payment and Filings.
  • Inventory Tracking.
  • Account Reconciliation.

Cons

  • Accessibility
  • Bank Feed Connection.

Return on Investment

  • It has allowed us to offer multiple bookkeeping softwares for clients that do not want to change from what they have been using.
  • Payroll filing has given us ease of mind because we can physically make the filings rather than waiting on payroll software to make them for us.

My organization loves QuickBooks, and we use it for almost everything. We use it for invoice creation, payroll, timesheets, deposits, reconciliation, financial reports, etc. We do not have problems with it. We wish it could have multiple administrators when connecting it with our budget software. Sometimes, it doesn't keep our accrued time correctly.

Pros

  • Invoicing
  • Timesheet
  • reconcilation
  • Account payable
  • Account receivable

Cons

  • Tracking the budget to expense
  • payroll section still need improvement

Return on Investment

  • don't use it

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I'm the sole employee and QuickBooks program has been the best decision I could have made for the organization. We are a very small not for profit and even though we don't have a whole lot of income/expenses/line items, QuickBooks works very well for us. The only issue I encounter is when dealing with new sales and customizing our own invoice/statements.

Pros

  • Reports
  • Detailed summaries
  • Customer history

Cons

  • sales invoices
  • detailed receipts

Return on Investment

  • Time management
  • Tax return cost savings
  • Detailed reporting

DON'T BUY QUICKBOOKS FOR MAC

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I have used Quickbooks Desktop for Mac for about 4 months. I wish I could get my money back but I'm outside the 60-day window that they allow for full refunds. Overall, my experience with Quickbooks for Mac has been the largest train wreck that I've ever experienced. Tech support is incredibly hard to get a hold of and once you do, they tell you that you have to call back for another department. How insanely difficult it can be to just talk with a human. Once you do get the right department, they put you on hold for hours trying to figure out what is wrong. I've done a clean install and re-booted a million times. I am so incredibly disappointed with my purchase decision that I am now looking at Quickbooks alternatives. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PROJECT TO ANYONE!

Pros

  • Nothing

Cons

  • Every topic

Return on Investment

  • I've lost thousands of dollars due to Quickbooks for Mac not working properly
  • Terrible PRoduct
  • Insanely bad customer support

Usability

QuickBooks Desktop for Mac is not the greatest - but if you already know how to do bookkeeping it's a pretty good option.

Pros

  • Adding customers, vendors, employees, etc. is pretty simple and quick.
  • The reports you can generate are excellent and in credibly helpful - get as birdseye view or detailed as you like.

Cons

  • On the support side - there has always been discrepancies between QB Desktop for Mac vs. Windows and there's just a lot more out there for Windows Desktop. Plus, Intuit has not been shy in making clear that they'd rather everyone migrate over to Quickbooks Online (which I tried and is terrible), and so the support for Desktop seems to be getting minimized or put by the wayside.
  • In the most recent version (2020) the program crashes WAY too much. I've never had this problem before and I'm hoping that they release updates to fix it.

Return on Investment

  • It has allowed me to do a god job of keeping track of our income and expenses the way it should be done. That has great value in my book.
  • The reports give excellent insight into the numbers of the company which allow us to take a deep dive into where we are and where we want to go (forecasting).
