What is NX CAD?

Siemens NX software is an integrated product design solution that helps deliver products faster and more efficiently. NX delivers design, simulation, and manufacturing solutions that enable companies to realize the value of the digital twin.

Media

NX technology can generate multiple design options. (It's like having an extra employee dedicated to "trying out" different designs.) Then Additive Manufacturing (3D printing) can be used to generate the part.
Studies show an inordinate amount of time can be spent by designers as they look for previous or similar parts. The software can search for similarly-shaped parts.
NX has the ability to validate a part (or assembly) and its adherence to standards, collisions, and manufacturability.
Virtual inspection and mark up full sized assemblies.

NX in a Energy company

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We are using NX as a CAD/CAM tool in Engineering department and Manufacturing department. We are leveraging MBD approach and we integrate 3D model coming from different suppliers and different formats

Pros

  • High configurability
  • Lot of features available
  • Perfect integration with Teamcenter
  • 3D mathematical management

Cons

  • Error message should be more clear for user
  • Simplify management of custom application menu
  • Sharing better guide and example

Return on Investment

  • Through API implementation we have created some CAD Automation tool that saved us about 100h to create specific 3D geometry
  • Teamcenter integration leverage quality of 3D geometry because avoid any situation of duplicated version of same Item that can take lot of hours to verify the correct version
  • Possibility to integrate different 3D format allow to earlier detect possible impact of wrong geometry

NX CAD user from last 4 years in automotive sector

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We utilize the NX CAD software extensively for design and development of Automotive components. At present, the project deliveries and timeline are most challenging. The interconnected modelling and drafting modules helped to reduce project lead time and fulfil the promised deliveries. NX CAD is user friendly and provides better control on commands for generating complex Class A surfaces very effectively.

Pros

  • Rendering of components
  • Modeling of plastic components such as instrumental panels and Console
  • Generation of Complex Class A surfaces
  • Generation of splines and complex geometries
  • Integration of CAD and CAM

Cons

  • The tool has scope to develop an algorithm for generating surfaces from the point data.
  • Include of option to convert .STL to any CAD format will be helpful.
  • The time taken to open/save the assembly can be reduced.
  • The connectivity of splines laying in different planes can be improvised.

Return on Investment

  • Positive Impact: Better control on commands and user-friendly interface, interconnected modelling and drafting modules helped to reduce project lead time and fulfil the promised deliveries.
  • Negative Impact: No negative impact

NX CAD USAGE OVERVIEW

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use NX for the plastic part design. We use for the plastic exterior component lie Energy absorber and aprons . Scope is in expression work for the lobe of the energy absorber.

Pros

  • NX is going in synchronous Modelling but not recommended by the OEM as it is nonparametric modelling.
  • For same use we have multiple option commands in NX.
  • Search toolbar good option in case we don't find any command.

Cons

  • NX2306 is needed to improve the Visualization icon of commands in history tree like in NX11
  • NX2306 need improve the constraints/relation in sketcher
  • In NX2306 Analysis for measure multiple solid bodies need to play much.
  • Constraint color and relations to be improved.
  • Thickness at point command need to be added.

Return on Investment

  • It is good software tool to compare to other tools in market.
  • It improved our business.
  • NX and TCPLM is good to use for the sustainability.

NX CAD : Great tool for 3D modeling

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I am using NX CAD for mainly

1. For modeling of 3D complex geometries.

2. For simulation and analysis of new designs.

Using NX CAD for simulation helps to evaluate the performance of products in terms of strength and durability before actual manufacturing which helps to save costs and product development time.

Pros

  • 3D parametric solid modeling, surface modeling and assembly modeling
  • Handling large assemblies and complex designs
  • Motion simulations to analyze and optimize mechanisms
  • Finite element analysis for structural and thermal performance

Cons

  • Improved documentation, including tutorials and user guides, could help new users navigate the software more effectively. Also intermittent sessions can improve the experience.
  • Customizing the interface and workflows can be challenging, advanced knowledge of software is required in such case.
  • Simulation capabilities can be improved in NX making its application widespread.

Return on Investment

  • Increased productivity and efficiency with NX CAD has resulted in faster design iterations and reduced development time.
  • NX CAD has resulted in Improved design quality due to use of its simulation capability which allow virtual testing and optimization of product.
  • NX CAD is complex tools to learn and it takes time for new user to learn it and requires training for longer duration and ultimately it affects efficiency.

Usability

The direction is good!

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use the NX for Mold Designing. Start it with the product design via the mold design until the CAM programs. The most difficult the standard libraries keeping up to date.

Pros

  • new mold features, modules
  • associative, gateway
  • help documentation

Cons

  • measuring went wrong direction !!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • sketch base.... !!!!!!!!!!!!!
  • from model base went to sketch base the features

Most Important Features

  • Mold Wizard
  • Wave
  • PMI
  • MBD
  • Colour base
  • FBM

Return on Investment

  • always updating the model (the update is switched off)
  • the recorded macros not run on another model sometimes
  • in the customer default the describe of the option not so detailed
  • in array command or mirrors body the colours of the faces dont copy
