The most common scenario is a need to do a high-level OCR-scan of a document followed by heavy editing. I believe that FineReader is in its own league in that regard, and there is no single reason why would someone choose an alternative soft for the purpose.
Another common scenario is a need of detailed comparison of pdf documents. A massive help!

Well suited: Invoice data extraction and integration with a third-party system. Less appropriate: Multiple invoices in the single pdf use case and complex logic for business data validation.

  • Although the back-end of the application is very strong, if it can have a visual workflow for defining tasks like scanning, verification and etc., it will be better.
  • Reporting feature should be enhance more on web
  • Although the result of Arabic Text extraction is very good in ABBYY, if they can focus more on different types of Arabic Fonts, it will be better

Alternatives Considered
While Adobe Reader can identify documents and convert them to some other various formats, it cannot process the documents to identify tables for use in Excel. We only had success by letting Adobe read a file for any identifiable text but it wasn't always accurate. FineReaders ability to handle hundreds of pages at once felt leaps and bounds above Adobe

We have selected it because it is having very strong OCR Engine. Also, AI-based features like machine learning for the training of batches are a strong feature in ABBYY FlexiCapture. Also, it has the ability to export data into SharePoint and other ECM systems like M-Files. Also, the automatic classification feature for batches is another feature that was the reason for choosing this product.
