Considered Both Products
ABBYY FineReader
Chose ABBYY FineReader
While Adobe Reader can identify documents and convert them to some other various formats, it cannot process the documents to identify tables for use in Excel. We only had success by letting Adobe read a file for any identifiable text but it wasn't always accurate. FineReaders …
Chose ABBYY FineReader
ABBYY FineReader is far more advanced and accurate for OCR-related tasks than Kofax Power PDF. When it comes to working with languages, other than English, ABBYY FineReader has a total advantage in all possible aspects. Editing tools in ABBYY FineReader work exceptionally well …
Chose ABBYY FineReader
Although both have functionalities that they share, in ABBYY FineReader they are better implemented, they have a better performance, in addition to being a more intuitive and simple user that makes their learning curve relatively simple, it is as if the options I need are …
PowerDMS by NEOGOV
Chose PowerDMS by NEOGOV
It is the only platform we have used. We never seriously evaluated any other platform before implementing PowerDMS. We had first-hand reviews from our police department and a neighboring fire department.
Chose PowerDMS by NEOGOV
Seems better as we can add training.
Chose PowerDMS by NEOGOV
Did not review or compare any others. PowerDMS was already in place at each of the organizations where I have used the system.
Chose PowerDMS by NEOGOV
We have not reviewed or utilized any other such programs. Through networking and others using their own software found, we found that Power DMS was best suited for our organization and went forward off that. As we continue to use PowerDMS and learn, we can further progress our …
Chose PowerDMS by NEOGOV
The consulting group only uses PowerDMS.
Chose PowerDMS by NEOGOV
Our previous document product was Image Silo. It was a stable-enough product, but was strictly an indexed filing system. PowerDMS goes well beyond indexing (which it does very well) and provides countless more features and functions as described above. I would describe the …
Chose PowerDMS by NEOGOV
We did not compare PowerDMS with others. For CALEA, there is only one option, which ended up not being a bad thing.
Chose PowerDMS by NEOGOV
We used to utilize Lexipol for policy review, but moved to Power DMS because of some of Lexipol's limitations. Power DMS is just a much more robust program. There are so many uses and features beyond simple policy collection and management. Their Success community and Champions …
Chose PowerDMS by NEOGOV
I cannot remember the programs I searched for prior to deciding on PowerDMS since it has been 5 years.
Chose PowerDMS by NEOGOV
Power DMS was the only product we looked at. Being that it was pushed positively by CALEA and is one of their tools used to successfully manage accreditation it was a no brainer the support from Power DMS was also A+ they worked with us throughout our initial set-up.
Chose PowerDMS by NEOGOV
Our department was created in 2017. We copied another department by using PowerDMS. It worked for them and it has serviced us beyond expectations.
Chose PowerDMS by NEOGOV
I have not used any other systems like PowerDMS. We have a training management system that allows us to store documents but not in a way that makes it easy to pull the documents or highlight key portions.
Chose PowerDMS by NEOGOV
This is the first product we've utilized.
Chose PowerDMS by NEOGOV
None, all of our accreditation files and policy were in hard paper copy prior to the implementation of PowerDMS.
Chose PowerDMS by NEOGOV
We found PowerDMS to be the most well-rounded solution for our agency - and the most highly recommended by other customers.
Chose PowerDMS by NEOGOV
I have not used any other systems aside from PowerDMS, but I don't feel that I need to. I'm pretty happy with this.
Chose PowerDMS by NEOGOV
We did review one other software product to help with out accreditation management, however, that did not offer anything like PowerDMS.
Chose PowerDMS by NEOGOV
In the past, I have used a variety of both internally developed programs and external software programs for both accreditation management and document tracking. PowerDMS has been a superior product. It is a very robust platform that is easy to learn with endless benefits to the …

The most common scenario is a need to do a high-level OCR-scan of a document followed by heavy editing. I believe that FineReader is in its own league in that regard, and there is no single reason why would someone choose an alternative soft for the purpose.
Another common scenario is a need of detailed comparison of pdf documents. A massive help!

Getting 100% signature compliance on policy updates used to take months but since automating out policy management updates in PowerDMS, we can get 100% compliance in as little as 2 weeks. Internal requests for things such as training, purchases, etc used to be pushed up the chain of command via a paper copy and would often get misplaced or lost in a full mailbox. Using PowerDMS to automate those requests put the power back in the requester's hands and increased transparency and accountability across the organization.

  • The Workflow process in PowerDMS is not as easy to grasp as some of the other concepts and requires a little more explaination, especially for non-administrative background users.
  • Users are unable to view the steps in a Workflow template in order to determine which Workflow would work best for their needs when routing documents.
  • It would be great to have multiple message options for past due inbox notifications in addition to the options for past due tasks to encourage users to go to their inbox to review their messages.

I have had nothing but positive experiences with PowerDMS from day one. If we ever run into a situation we are unsure of, PowerDMS support has ALWAYS been able to answer us basically immediately. I really love that they are constantly seeking to improve and expand.

Usability
No answers on this topic
While not necessarily user-intuitive, with a small amount of dedication to training and learning how the system functions, it becomes very usable. I would say that the usability scale is quite user-dependent. For a standard user that just needs to review and sign documents, it is very easily used. On the other end, management does a bit more of a learning curve.

We use PowerDMS in the cloud so our performance might be different from other users who use on-premise. The program has always been up with very minimal downtime and always seems responsive and snappy when navigating the UI and searching documents. We don't currently have any integrations with other software.

I just wish we had some in-state support. The contacts I have had with customer support have been great. Awesome communication, problem-solving, and support. I have talked to and met Stephanie Williams (CSA for Power DMS) at the most recent Entrust conference. She was professional and devoted time to addressing our agency needs.

Implementation of PowerDMS was near seamless. The product was able to input existing policies and procedures within a few hours, which helped to lay the foundation for future use. Having PowerDMS on-boarding readily available was also a huge benefit.

Our previous document product was Image Silo. It was a stable-enough product, but was strictly an indexed filing system. I would describe the difference between our previous product and PowerDMS like the difference between the library and the Internet.
