Considered Both Products
ARchitect
Chose ARchitect
We thought ARchitect had the functionality and ease-of-use that was right for us. Simple as that.
Chose ARchitect
There isn't a comparative like-for-like product that I would compare ARchitect to; rather I would compare it to any other CRM system. The key differentiator is the database of analysts listed after that is really a case of comparing how interactions are listed and how emails …
Chose ARchitect
Prior to using ARchitect, we were using Salesforce. While we did have some customization added, it did not nearly have the robustness that ARchitect provides -- especially since it is designed for AR professionals. We've been using ARchitect for about 8 years and have never …
Chose ARchitect
There is no equivalent to ARchitect on the market. We, like many AR programs, used Excel spreadsheets and Word docs before getting ARchitect. Those general purpose tools are sub-optimal for AR management.

Brand24 was my alternative to Mention, I switched back in 2018 because Mention's pricing was going up. While Brand24 is a U.K. based company, I still thought it may be beneficial to me here in the U.S. However, I didn't think about time zone differences and when the support …
Chose Mention
Talkwalker is very similar to Mention. However, Talkwalker found much fewer results for our company. It did find similar results, so there was a crossover, but all the results Talkwalker found, Mention also found. The pricing is also much higher for Talkwalker, with much fewer …
Chose Mention
I like both, for different reasons. I'm more inclined to use Awario for the bulk of my tracking work (including online lead generation) because I have access to a premium plan via a lifetime deal. With an unlimited budget, I may pick Mention.
Chose Mention
Many other tools are large-scale management systems with capabilities to respond. If your focus, however, is more on the monitoring side, then it's not necessary to have such a bulky solution and Mention could be the lightweight solution you need.
Chose Mention
Definitely more affordable than Meltwater for the monitoring side of things. The social monitoring also takes what we want from Hootsuite and provides that coverage as we don't need the social sharing/conversation piece of either. So we're very pleased with the tool overall and …
Chose Mention
Honestly, I did a little research on different competitors, but my budget was very tight. Mention was the best reviewed and had the best reputation based on the price point. It was really an easy decision as all the other software solutions were charging $100s of dollars a …
Chose Mention
Google alerts seems to miss a lot, while Mention does a much better job of getting you all of the info.
Chose Mention
Buffer and Tailwind are different types of products with different services. I use Mention because it provides a service that they do not provide.
Chose Mention
Currently, there are no other tools available with the features that Mention has possible according to our knowledge and experience. We firmly believe that Mention has placed themselves in a category all of their own. In the ten years, our company has been around. We have yet …
Chose Mention
Mention is an all-in-one listening tool. It is designed specifically for that purpose, so you don't fall victim to distractions that other similar products offer.
Chose Mention
We only use Mention as an add-on component to other monitoring services to catch any mention that might have not been seen by the others.
Chose Mention
You can easily miss a notification or an @ response - but you don't miss anything with Mention.

If you have an AR program across the globe and want to track all interactions you have with them, this tool is right for you. As you can imagine the tool is only as good as the data you put in, so you do have to make it part of your work day to input the data. Say a team member leaves and you have to jump in to cover for them, you are able to see all the interactions they have had with analysts

Mention is perfect if you are looking for a fairly inexpensive software that will help you monitor your brand reputation, help you discover SEO opportunities, and potentially help you generate sales revenue. While I know Mention can work with bigger companies, I personally feel this fits the SMB market the best. On the other hand, Mention may not be for you if you have a mega brand and need to see sentiment analysis.

  • Engagement - Knowing how well your content is doing with your audiences is a beneficial feature to have at your disposal.

  • Data Reports - The many features offered by Mention is invaluable. Some of the best thought out features are with this company.

Cons
  • We would like to see some project management functions to track RFI, log follow-up actions and assign tasks inside the team.
  • I'd be good to see email open state in the analyst interactions tab.
  • An easier way to report insights from interactions would be hugely useful.

  • Mention is an older platform and in this rapidly changing world and "need it now," I'm not feeling it's really there yet.
  • I'm having to create my own social tracking using IFTTT and Zapier to be ahead of the curve. I wish Mention was as fast.

As a freelancer I am unlikely to have the budget to use ARchitect on a regular basis I would however look at it seriously if asked by a client or if I was working in an agency with a significant AR practice I would look at it seriously.

Usability
It's super easy to use, and anything that I cannot figure out, their team usually helps me within hours of my asking!

Mention works quickly and its user interface is easy to use. Alerts update regularly and I've never noticed any lag. It integrates with our CRM via Zapier, but this is not something which we use yet. The only thing I would say is that it takes time for Mention to reach its full potential. It only starts to rank influences from when you set up the alert, so it can take a few weeks to build a map of your influencers.

Support Rating
In the instances I have had issues its been a little tricky to figure things out, some of the videos are helpful but getting email responses are not great compared to online chat and I have found that the response rates have been more than a day in some instances which is not as responsive as I would like compared to other platforms.I have seen ARInsights have made a number of new hires in the area of account management so I am sure that will have improved the support provided

Mention always responded promptly and gave excellent support. Any problem we had with the software, from login trouble to broken features were addressed quickly. There was once a problem with our quota, where we were unable to see results we should have been able to see. We sent an email, and within an hour, the situation was resolved!

Alternatives Considered
Prior to using ARchitect, we were using Salesforce. While we did have some customization added, it did not nearly have the robustness that ARchitect provides -- especially since it is designed for AR professionals. We've been using ARchitect for about 8 years and have never looked back. Some examples of vast improvements: 1. Analyst firms/bios. With Salesforce, we needed to maintain all analyst bios -- something that ARchitect does. 2. Analyst coverage. We used to track all analyst coverage by visiting multiple analyst websites and manually pasting into spreadsheets. We now not only get a feed of coverage that can be exported into Excel, but we can also customize reports by topic. 3. Reporting. Salesforce did not provide the same reporting capabilities that ARchitect provides.

While Brand24 is a U.K. based company, I still thought it may be beneficial to me here in the U.S. However, I didn't think about time zone differences and when the support would be available to me. Normally when you have a question, you want it answered right now, but that was a bit of a problem for them. Mention is very quick with support and understanding of their own program.

Return on Investment
  • The Event Module has taken days if not weeks out of the prep process for big events.
  • ARchitect is a great way to allow communication with peers, without the need for extra emails, ect, because everyone on the team can see what each other is doing and who they are talking to about which topics.

  • Mention has had a positive impact on my business because it gives people the impression that I was following them, even if I might not have been. It makes me appear active on all social media platforms, even if I ONLY look at my mentions each day!
  • Because I have only used the free plan but have benefitted greatly, I would say that my ROI is fantastic!
  • The only negative impact that Mention has is that I do get a daily email in my inbox, and it is one more thing to check. However, it is worth the time.
