Considered Both Products
ManageEngine AssetExplorer
Chose ManageEngine AssetExplorer
I cannot remember the names of different software I evaluated in comparison at the time but I do remember Manage Engine AssetExplorer offering more useful features and the P.O module also being a diamond of a find.
Chose ManageEngine AssetExplorer
I've not used any other products like ManageEngine AssetExplorer.
Chose ManageEngine AssetExplorer
Altiris is very daunting for users that have never worked with it. AssetExplorer was much easier to use for our team that had no experience with asset management.
ConnectWise RMM
Chose ConnectWise RMM
screenconnect and RMM are two totally different platforms We did not try any other competitive RMM software out their because of the history of using ConnectWise's software. We have never have had any issues with their software so we started using RMM right out of the box and …
Chose ConnectWise RMM
ConnectWise is the only product we have used and we have become accustomed to the way the product blends in with our day-to-day operations.
Chose ConnectWise RMM
Having evaluated and used other platforms, ConnectWise is above the rest in the market. Having the additional tools for patch management, reporting, Dashboard is key to running the help desk for our company. The ability to run scripts and support the end-user is key and …
Chose ConnectWise RMM
Automate (LabTech) would be the aforementioned "heavy-duty" kind of RMM tool. It's big, it's complex, and very capable compared to Continuum Command. That said, the impetus is very much on the service provider to configure and maintain nearly 100% of the product, whereas in …
Chose ConnectWise RMM
The one thing we liked about over the two listed above were the "all in one" solution, and how Continuum keeps moving to include items other than just RMM, they really are striving to be a solutions provider for managed IT companies. I have mentioned before, the ability to put …
Chose ConnectWise RMM
At the time that we were testing out Labtech, it was slightly cheaper BUT lacked many of the features, such as live human support and NOC. Everything depended on scripts fixing the issues. What if the scripts fail? Well, then it's on you to figure out why and fix it. No help …

You definitely only want to buy this product if you have the need. I'd say that need starts at about 40 assets. Less than that and you may be wasting your time with a a product that is overkill. We use it for about 1000 assets and it is a lifesaver. I couldn't imagine managing the assets manually.

It is well suited for environments with a large number of users (think MSPs) that need remote access, and quickly getting to a client site is either not an option, or will greatly increase delays in support. It also works well to monitor client devices and make decisions based on the robust reporting offered (hardware, installed OS version, OS Patching, etc.). It is not very well suited for small environments or single businesses due to cost, and management required.

Pros
  • Purchase Order Module is done reasonably well in order to build an intelligence database on vendors.
  • The network scan is useful to get up and running on getting existing equipment and software into the database.
  • Notifications concerning when subscriptions or contracts expire.
  • Vendor Database - Being able to keep track of all vendor information and uploading documentation such as contracts which can be found easily.

  • Grouping/Reporting: static organization as well as dynamically and quickly getting inventory and other machine-based information
  • Out-sourced teams do a good job of handling small things without much input as long as you are clear and concise.
  • Patching is likely the best thing about their platform. Windows patch testing is actually performed in house and they make recommendations for you. Allowing you to push through patches if you know someone needs something. But this is a major task that very few if anyone else does.

Cons
  • To my knowledge, there is not a mobile application.
  • The web interface could look a bit more polished, but this is really a minor area of improvement.

  • It runs heavy on the resources of the computer.
  • Sometimes the Updates are a little behind.
  • The message tab open up in the background.

Support Rating
It is not a perfect solution. I don't believe it is the best software for some of the components it offers but I do like and appreciate what it does offer. It offers complexity and a range of features for a company to take advantage of if planned and implemented properly.

Return on Investment
  • This tool reduces much of the human hours used to go get detailed information, so it has paid itself.
  • Limits the number of assets but you can extend it.
  • This software avoids equipment losses since they are assigned to users and it is controlled.
  • You can calculate depreciation and avoid the wrong investment.

  • Command package from ConnectWise fits mostly with our objectives for our clients in a day to day operations.
  • BDR Package is a great platform to manage Disaster Recover options - Sometimes hard to understand the billing options and plans
  • NOC services for the servers are the best. Support is on top of the server for anything needed.
