It definitely is among the top leaders in API testing and virtualization along with the Parasoft SOA tool. Many open source API testing libraries such as Rest Assured, Karate and even Postman and SOAP UI are free which is a little bit against CA.
This was the 1st and only Testing Suite we have purchased or used. We did some research before we purchased, and generally all the reviews for the Oracle Testing Suite were good.
OATS doesn’t work for Hyperion or ADF - hence why I am using it as well. OATS is great as it’s a full suite in 1 tool for load, functional automation and Test Mgmt

Baseline performance can be monitored before the upgrade and compared to a production query load, we are able to easily monitor server performance and make an accurate prediction of upgrade performance. Load testing piece is not integrated with in the tool and rather uses Blaze meter which is free.

The application is ideal for places that have already contracted with Oracle, however, OATS is much more expensive than other software available on the market.

We are a large company and saving a few dollars on licensing is penny wise but pound foolish as we cannot afford unplanned downtime.
This tool gave a very positive ROI in our group. Especially with service virtualization where we minimized the downtime in our test environments significantly.
Also, service virtualization helps to minimize the costs of hitting third party services often in lower environments.
Oracle testing suite had a positive ROI immediately, as our web application downtimes were reduced dramatically after we could do automated regression and load testing.
The learning curve for OpenScript was steep for our team, and we had to spend a lot of work hours training staff and learning the product.
