Personally find that Camtasia has better video editing tools than those available in the above competition. That being said the other software I have used has been mainly focused on other areas; their video editing tool is more of an afterthought and isn't as easy to use as …
Camtasia is much more robust than iMovie. You can customize Camtasia and easily adjust video and audio settings. With iMovie, you can always "tell"- it is only customizable to a certain degree. Camtasia is like the "advanced" version of iMovie, giving you more flexibility and a …
Ease of use, the daily notifications that I receive. Ability to track support skills and subject matter experts. Teams are able to provide feedback on needs and what works, what doesn't. I use other Techsmith products as well as tools like Scribe. Camtasia offered a variety of …
My goal was to quickly create a professional-looking course and video in no time with Camtasia. 'Time is money,' as the old saying goes. Because of my lack of time and patience, I didn't bother with other applications. Camtasia is everything I need and more. I just wished I can …
As with most software products, you'll always find pros and cons when making comparisons. Camtasia is always my go-to application when someone asks me to whip up a video on a very tight deadline. You can very quickly turn an idea into a finished video and be happy with the …
Camtasia is much more expensive than Filmora, but it is much more robust. Filmora is great if you're on a budget, but Camtasia can add an extra level of professionalism that is difficult to achieve in Filmora without a lot of extra work. Either is great, but Filmora is only a …
I honestly have not worked with any others in at least three to four years. There is virtually no learning curve with Camtasia--super simple and does everything I need. I cannot say how others stack up currently, as there has been no reason to explore other options since using …

Camtasia is not on the same level as Premiere Pro, but it isn’t designed to fill that niche either. Premiere Pro is much more capable, but it is also much more expensive and much more broadly focused as a linear editor. It is much more approachable, it is much more affordable, …
Captivate is high-end to the extent that it is beyond the use of a "typical" user. It has a steep and lengthly learning curve. Camtasia's learning curve can be mastered potentially within an hour to be productive, and it weds with SnagIt to become versatile in presenting …
The two first, well too complicated. I couldn't move fast enough to be able to edit what I needed. I tried and every single time, I came back to Camtasia. The rendering process seems to be faster (I worked prior with a third party company and the rendering process took a lot of …
I've tried several freeware recorders, too. If all you want to do is literally record your screen, and nothing else, you don't need Camtasia. There are literally dozens of apps that will do that. If you want an app that will record your screen while capturing mouse clicks, …
Our advanced editors use programs like Adobe Premiere Pro and DaVinci Resolve, but we only have about 5-6 employees that have that skill level. That isn't enough to support our video output. Camtasia allows everyone that is not at that level to create quality videos with a much …
Camtasia lets you purchase the software and download it to your computer. You don't need to have an internet connection to work on your projects with Camtasia. You don't have to pay a monthly subscription for Camtasia like you do the others. Camtasia is the software to use if …
I have used others, but I consider that the closest to Camtasia are: Movavi, Filmora, Openshot, IMovie and perhaps DaVinciResolve (although this is something more for the professional sector). Among the others I've used: LumaFusion (Ipad), Kinemaster (Android), Vllo (Android) …
Camtasia has more features and more customization options than the other products we've used. It allows us to record presentations while keeping a video of the presenter in the corner. It has green-screen features, which a lot of other software does not have. Some programs have …
They are similar products. For someone devoted to video-editing, Captivate might be a better choice - it has a bit more functionality but is harder to learn and use.
The last time I used Captivate, it couldn't handle a multi-screen setup, which was a deal-breaker for us, and …
Adobe offers you a lot more tools and control over what you are doing when editing a video, but there tends to be a lot of features you never use and get overly complicated. Camtasia offers the basic tools that you need to get almost any job done if perfection is not required.
Having used both solutions, I would recommend them for different uses. iMovie is a great platform for family videos but does not go beyond clipping videos together. Camtasia allows you to do some nicer editing of videos. This is why it is a much better platform for small …
Skitch, compared to Snagit, is a basic screen capture image editing tool. Skitch is also really easy to use and provides good screenshots for tutorials, user manuals, and blogs. However, Snagit is more robust and streamlined and is still an incredibly easy-to-use solution.
It's a great utility and cost-effective for the needs of business analysts to quickly crop, edit, and design images for documentation. It has areas to grow for process diagrams, in my opinion, but as a quick image editor, it has plenty of capabilities to get you by with …
Snagit has far greater functionality than the standard Control Alt Print Screen to capture images. Once you've used Snagit to capture an image, it can easily edited to serve its purpose in either use on a website, in office productivity tools, or in outward-facing collateral …
Cloudapp doesn't offer a screen records with 30 frames per second. Plenty of lags and frame drops can be seen while recording with Cloudapp. Where snagit works flawlessly in this section. Snagit has plenty of markup tools for easy accessibility and cloudapp lacks in this …
It's really convenient to use with defining lots of shortcuts and provides more flexibility to the user. Pricing is also less compared to the other products. Good Support, there is a community available, can reach out them 24x7 to get the solution.
Native screen shot (snipping tool) is fine for basic screen shots and minor annotation. Snagit requires less time and does not need to have the images separately saved to have them be particularly useful.
First of all, this is an integrated software by Tencent and the good side is that it is free to use, unlike other software that you need to pay for it's licenses to use. However, the reason Snagit still outshines Snip is that it is reasonable with the license that comes with …
Windows free snipping tool - Con: had to save each screen shot before I could take another screen shot and couldn't draw nice circles/rectangles around the area of the screen shot to bring attention. Chrome plugin options - Con: editing tools were lacking.
Snagit has been around since the 1990s. I started using it back when there were not so many options out there. We have been so happy with it that we never really looked at any other product. And that really is the truth. We upgrade every 2 years and that cost compared to …
Snagit can be a bit more expensive than some of the opensource options (some of which are free and effective), but I think its value comes from the fact that no matter your level of tech-savviness, Snagit remains an out of the box solution that is ready to go on Day 1. That, …

Compared to Camtasia this is far easier and quicker to use for quick video clips. The idea during the day is to be able to create posts for clients fast an easily. I also use Sony Vega and Adobe but find Snagit much easier to work with short posts on Facebook and LinkedIn.
I haven't used Photoshop in a long time - but the learning curve was very steep with it. The learning curve with Snagit isn't, and most professionals who aren't actual designers don't need anything nearly as complex as PS. Snagit is the perfect solution - easy to use with the …
Snagit is much more robust than either of those tools. Both of those were very basic screen capture tools—no frills, no advanced features. They allowed me to grab a screen and make minor changes to it. We used a separate tool (Loom) for video capture. With Snagit, it does …
PhotoShop is of course a very powerful image editing tool. But, the learning curve is steep and all the tools and settings aren't necessary for our needs. Snagit is a streamlined solution for capturing videos, creating gifs, and editing images. (It also supports capturing …
Snagit is a much more scaled down version of Photoshop. This was ideal for our team as we are not performing heavy image manipulation tasks. We only need to add a few basic mark-ups to images, which is something easily done with Snagit. This saves us both time and the effort it …
After a while my Snagit stopped working and uninstalling and reinstalling wasn't fixing it. I decided to switch from Snagit to Format Factory's "Screen Record" program. I like this program because it does the same thing that Snagit does, and it's also free. My coworkers use …
Our organization does not use any other application to do what Snagit does. People in organization that do not have Snagit are using default Windows features (e.g., snipping tool). Compared to the snipping tool, Snagit is a lot more powerful and a way better application.
Snagit is cheaper and simpler than Photoshop. It's easier to get new writers up to speed with Snagit than Photoshop. We didn't need all the capabilities that Photoshop has, so Snagit fits the bill perfectly.
Adobe Photoshop can do the same and has thousands of more functionalities than Snagit, however, Snagit is much faster and lighter for the purposes described to easily take a quick screen shot and make notes and send them. When using on dozens of users, it is more cost effective …
Well-suited scenarios Camtasia is an excellent video creation tool if you are new to making/editing videos. Its definitely the easiest application to use and doesn't overcomplicate things. Once you are used to the way things work within Camtasia, coupled with applying some important, basic principles of making videos, you can produce some nice-looking videos. I've had lots of compliments on some of the product promo videos I've created using Camtasia. If you want to create something quick, simple, and eye-catching, you can certainly do that in Camtasia without a ridiculously steep learning curve. Not so well suited scenarios Camtasia wouldn't be my choice of product if I wanted to make a full-length feature film, but that isn't really its intended target audience. There are more powerful applications out there, such as Adobe Premier Pro, or Final Cut Pro (if you're an Apple user) for that type of thing.
As mentioned the ability to take screen captures with just a keystroke is great. Snagit has a nice suite of markup and manipulation tools that are great. Video recording is good and stable, with many options for sound, etc. What Snagit is not is a video editor. If that is what you are looking for this is not it. However, if you need one good tool that will have you covered for grabbing and sharing captures and video Snagit is perfect.
Video capture - the countdown feature is great so you can set the scene. And you can convert to a gif and easily copy and paste to an email or messenger app.
Markup - easily blur areas, crop, cut out (in the middle of images), add text, add arrows or boxes around areas and much more.
Scrolling capture - allows me to grab images that span several scrolls to get everything in one image.
I'd love to see more video editing abilities. For example, adding a highlight box inside of a movie before saving it to a GIF.
Snagit has limited font options when adding and editing text. Integrating with Google fonts or even adding support/making it clear how to add custom fonts would improve usability.
Adding the ability to fill while erasing. For example, if erasing an element from a white background, auto-fill in the erased patch with white, or some other custom color. Instead, I have to rely on copy/pasting from other areas in the picture.
Each release of Camtasia has added just enough functionality to justify the upgrade to the new version. I like that Camtasia is not a subscription-based product as we have more flexibility and control over our spend on the product. We can also purchase support packages that include the next version when released.
I think that the tool is excellent for what it is being used for. I particuarly like the ability to capture content from the screen whilst using the scroll wheel on my mouse. It is very annoying when your try to capture something with grab and you can't scroll which leads to multiple images
I haven't used another video recording and editing tools that is as comprehensive and straight-forward as Camtasia. Typically, if you want a user-friendly video editing tools for novice users, you have to compromise on features. Camtasia solves this problem by offering extensive editing features in a simplistic, user-friendly environment. Highly recommend
It's button centric for easy access to every feature. Everything allows undo! It works like any other standard Windows application. Everyone can be a professional without having to select every feature yourself by using the built in styles with just one click of a button in most cases. Every button is clearly labeled too.
With the latest version (Camtasia 2020), I actually had problems with an Imac with HighSierra, but from the first moment they answered and guided me to solve the problem, even before making the purchase (with some doubts I had). And they have support in English and Spanish, I really liked that.
I've actually never had to contact support as the tool is easy to use. One aspect is that they upgrade and send email notifications of the upgrades. They don't charge extra for upgrades and their enhancements fall in line with the way we use the tool. We haven't had to submit any upgrade requests as the tool already does what we need it to do.
It's a simple next next finish install. The SnagIt Library in the user profile should probably be backed up to make sure they have access to their old screen captures. We frequently will go back to previous captures and add context bubbles etc. when software changes to show the "old" vs "new". Also, go to SnagIt's website and download the additional Stamp Sets for the user. These are terrific. I wish there was one download to get them all, but you have to download and install them one set at a time. It's worth it - especially for training how-to's.
My goal was to quickly create a professional-looking course and video in no time with Camtasia. 'Time is money,' as the old saying goes. Because of my lack of time and patience, I didn't bother with other applications. Camtasia is everything I need and more. I just wished I can afford the upgrade.
Windows free snipping tool - Con: had to save each screen shot before I could take another screen shot and couldn't draw nice circles/rectangles around the area of the screen shot to bring attention. Chrome plugin options - Con: editing tools were lacking.
We used to source instructional videos. Now we do them in house, saving us time and money. Not only that, they are of higher production value.
We have used Camtasia to produce promotional videos in house. These used to be outsourced.
We don't have to wait for an outside firm to find capacity to help us with simple video projects, but can now do them on our timeline.
Camtasia has surprising power for the price. Again, don't expect Primiere Pro, but understand you may find you can do a lot with this program. We keep finding more and more use-cases for it.
