Considered Both Products
Cohesity
Chose Cohesity
Veeam Required installation on one of our on prem servers which ideally, we did not want. We are trying to reduce our on-prem footprint and Cohesity provided a solution that was completely cloud based.
Chose Cohesity
We selected Rubrik for two reasons. The first was an already existing relationship with the 3rd party VAR that recommended Cohesity. The second was the low cost of Cohesity to back up our data center in a short amount of time also. I am not sure they are the strongest product …
Chose Cohesity
Veeam is the best. Cohesity takes fast backups and provides good deduplication. Rubrik, it's Rubrik—nothing to write home about.
Chose Cohesity
Easy to manage and faster to implement and we have the total control of our backup deployment, and we can fine tune as per our business needs and Cohesity gives all the option for implementing the same. Cluster based storage and backup solution and option to manage multiple …
Chose Cohesity
First and foremost is that due to Cohesity being able to support different types of backup, Cohesity reduces the need to use different products, and since most of the stuff can be done from the GUI, it is very easy to use as well, unlike, let's say TSM on which we will have to …
Chose Cohesity
Cohesity provided more features out of the box and not all they extra licensing to enable. The performance that Cohesity was able to provide was the main reason for our decision to change our backup solution to a new product instead of increasing our foot print with our …
Chose Cohesity
it went down to 3 top companies and even thou Cohesity was not the cheapest when we compared the recovery time and options Cohesity was really standing out. On top of that, it was the first solution with Teams and Group-based SharePoint backup as an option. OneDrive backups is …
Chose Cohesity
Cost, Ease of management, Ease of implementation, and Global deduplication are why I chose Cohesity DataProtect.
Chose Cohesity
Cohesity DataProtect provides a much more reliable solution. The deduplication that happens is second to none and I've never worked with anything like it. So much time and space is saved by the appliance along with the Cohesity DataProtect magic.
Chose Cohesity
Cohesity simplifies the environment by having data protect along with clustered storage and configurable in a multi-site environment for easy off-site requirements, including cloud integration. The HTML5 interface outshines Veeam and NetBackup, which look like dinosaurs …
Chose Cohesity
Much better user interface, ease of use and administration, easier connectivity to the cloud.
Chose Cohesity
Rubrik. We currently use Rubrik for backups and we use Cohesity for NAS. Cohesity has been good for small NAS workloads if you are already using it for backups as well. It seems to be the jack of many trades and they are constantly adding more features and functionality. …
Chose Cohesity
Cohesity DataProtect is vastly simpler to use. Its interface is much more intuitive. Being that Cohesity DataProtect can be an applicance-based solution, deploying it is much simpler. Also, Cohesity DataProtect can provide the hardware so there is a single vendor for both …
Chose Cohesity
Data footprint and ease of use. Manage the data. Deduplication ratio of the outcome.
Chose Cohesity
At the time of purchase, we had looked at Rubrik and StorageCraft (prior to Arcserve acquisition). Rubrik at the time seemed relatively comparable in terms of backup features but did not have the ability to provide unstructured data shares. Rubrik was also substantially more …
Chose Cohesity
Cohesity won out against all others based on speed, capacity, features, and cost. Being able to demo the unit with a VM was extremely helpful -- we were able to get real-world compression and dedupe values without on-prem hardware during our POC. We appreciated the ease of …
Chose Cohesity
We used to use the NetApp SnapManager suite, I've found Cohesity to be more reliable, easier to configure, and restores to be faster.
Chose Cohesity
We replaced Barracuda with Cohesity. Barracuda was a nightmare to manage and was not very reliable. Rubrik is highly similar to Cohesity from a features perspective, but the sales and support personnel at Rubrik were unpleasant to deal with compared to Cohesity. With Rubrik …
Chose Cohesity
IBM is good but it´s old and really big and not easy to manage. And the License fees and so are worth it. Veeam I have a look on and 4 years ago I selected Cohesity because it was easier to manage, dedup was better and it is one hyperconverged infrastructure. Rubrik is or was …
Chose Cohesity
I was not involved in that project but we had Actifio before.
Chose Cohesity
Cohesity is cheaper as compared to other legacy backup products. It has easy and simple hardware & software installation, easy management, and comes with lots of modern era features. Cohesity comes with built-in features like reports, offers lots of additional apps in their app …
Chose Cohesity
Excellent technically, great support team and excellent value for the price.
Chose Cohesity
The Cohesity appliance is much easier to manage due to the application and storage altogether. There is no need to manage servers and storage separately, like with Veeam and Networker. EMC and Veeam support is excellent, but Cohesity support is on another level.

Chose Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365
Datto has an old-fashioned interface that often makes restores more difficult, particularly it's lack of flexibility in searching and then selecting some or all of the data that is returned by the search. You'll find yourself clicking through multiple pages of returns with no …
Chose Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365
SyncBackPro required on prem software and extra management, and while it was VERY inexpensive (just $50-$60 I think?), once we saw Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 demonstrated, we just didn't want to even look at other products - it just seemed like the right fix for us. To …
Chose Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365
This is used for restoring files for dedidated hardware. Is not related to the cloud services we use for O365.
Chose Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365
Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 just works reliably where as other products are either slower or don't work or the support is off shore. Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 has very good technical support resources.
Chose Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365
The reliability and ease-of-use for Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 is reliable for backups and retention to ensure that we are proactively and aggressively preparing for any disruption, business continuity scenario, or outage that would cause issues across our organization. …
Chose Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365
We found Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 user friendly, the other backup solution were giving errors when restoring, support wasn't good.
Chose Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365
I really like the features, the usability, and the support. I really have no complaints. I can't imagine a product working better.
Chose Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365
We felt Veeam had a better reputation and more wide spread used by other entities and organizations we have talked with.

Chose Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365
Compared to AvePoint and Metallic, recovery granularity at Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 is granular and managing the solution is easier. We chose Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 due to its vast number of options and high stability. This is done with such concern; …

Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud is another good option similar to Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365. It provides better built-in Cyber Security features than Veeam's product. However, the Technical Documentation and Support of Veam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 seems much better …
Chose Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365
Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 is specifically focused at Microsoft 365 data. The other products are good backup products. They all have similar interfaces and functionality. It is my oppinion that the Veeam series of software is more user friendly and works very well. I have …

Chose Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365
It beats them all out with the easiness to use and the great features that it offers. I have used other solutions and this product is much better than any of them. I even enjoy their support team when I have questions or issues. They are great at assisting me.

it's pretty much the same.

Veeam is superior in multiple ways. Simpler, more cost effective licensing model. Easier to restore data to ANY supported format, including PST. (Backupify did not have PST support for years.) No account management; if I did not stay on top of things, like license …

Cohesity is very well suited to protecting virtualised workloads and is a significant improvement over IBM Spectrum Protect which we’ve replaced by Cohesity. We also protect a Netapp workload and whilst the on-prem side works really well careful planning of protection jobs is needed if you’ll be archiving these to Cloud.

Veeam Data Cloud for Microsoft 365 is well suited for medium-size companies who have a significant amount of free storage and want to keep their own copies for retention/legal reasons. It is also a great way to back up SharePoint sites in the event of something being lost or incorrectly changed by a user. It is not great for deep visibility into your backups and exact sizing. There is no good way to truly view which items are taking up storage without digging into PowerShell commands.

Pros
  • The simplicity of the solution and the support behind implementation, training, and continued support.
  • The implementation and training are all done through the sales engineer, which provides for a seamless and great experience when it comes to starting with a new vendor.
  • How fast the solution works. When it comes to implementation (which is done in an hour or so) to backups, to actual recoveries, everything is just quick.

  • My CFO seemed to have lost a whole year of important emails. I simply restored them to his mailbox in a matter of minutes.
  • An employee left the company but an issue came up with a quote this person sent out. I could search his mailbox and got the quote as well as all communications from that customer.
  • It is nice to be able to search emails in various mailboxes without disturbing the user.
  • It is also nice to go back in time. Say they deleted those emails last month I can go back years if needed.

Cons
  • Reporting could always be better- executive-style reports have to be generated from data at multiple points.
  • Some tasks that could be brought to the UI that today we have to call support on (for example when an NFS mount is still active but we cannot see it from the UI)

  • Backing Up "Public Folders" is quite a hassle, but this is not the "fault" of Veeam but the way Microsoft exposes this data.
  • No option to integrate the product into their other solution, it would be great to access M365 backup in the Backup & Replication application.

We have been very pleased with this backup solution. It is fast and reliable, and supports our VMware infrastructure. The company's support has been great, including proactively replacing our nodes when the flash memory was reporting high wear. Support is offered on-shore as well. We plan on continuing to use this product for the foreseeable future.

Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 just works so well and is so easy to use. I researched multiple options for Office 365 backup and none seemed to be as easy to setup and use as Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365 and the pricing was very comfortable to us. I can't imagine any reason why we would change away from Veeam Backup for Microsoft 365.

Usability
The Cohesity platform with its user interface is easy to implement, rack space-saving, and easy to use on a daily business basis. Backup jobs and policies are easy to define, multiple machines and objects can be grouped for the same tasks. In general, Cohesity makes backup admins' lives much easier.

Veeam Data Cloud has an easy and user-friendly interface, easy integration with Microsoft 365 cloud, strong backup and recovery functionality, and robust security features. It is one of the few solutions that can export to .pst files and also has a very simple opt-out because the data is stored on the Microsoft cloud.

We have a lot of data, and pulling backups out of the store sometimes takes a bit of time - but this is within acceptable tolerances. I don't expect restores to be instantaneous, and I can't quantify if the speed is software or data repository.

Support Rating
Support is quick to respond but lacks that ongoing responsiveness if the issue is not simple. There will be large gaps in replies if they need to resort to escalation and when there are timezone differences between yourself and the person who picked up the ticket.

Support for all Veeam products is pretty good. While documentation sometimes is written for someone who's already an expert on the platform, their support portal is easy enough to use, and they are very responsive once a support need is documented. I have never had a problem with Veeam that could not be resolved in fairly short order.

Alternatives Considered
We looked at Veeam and although it's a great product when we priced out the licensing of both primary and disaster datacenters it became much too expensive. Rubrik is a great product and very similar to Cohesity. In the end, Cohesity had a secondary storage play as well as a better UI and better compatibility with lower tier cloud storage. We also like the way Cohesity did protection jobs vs Rubrik's virtual machine centric backup. CommVault is a product we still use today due to its massive features and the ability for bare metal backups. Cohesity does a much better job in the area of UI simplicity, virtual backup ease, and ease of management.

My familiarity with Veeam Data Cloud specifically is what drew me to the product. They both seem equally capable, but when you know a product you generally tend to go that direction. I believe the other provider could back up our environment, but I am not familiar with it and as I have stated when you need to get up and going quick it is best to be very familiar with the product you are utilizing.

Return on Investment
  • Cost savings from having to purchase and manage physical tapes, as well as the man-hours to swap them in and out and store them off site.
  • Extremely fast recovery times, can bring up a restored VM back in our environment in under a minute. Get back up and running much quicker.
  • Simplifies our disaster recovery strategy.
  • Initial cost can be pricey depending on your storage needs.

  • The only real impact is from a compliance standpoint. Our company is expected at a regulatory level to be protecting our data and even though the tenant has little traffic there could still be some regulated data in there. We have to be able to tell an auditor that it's being backed up by an enterprise grade solution, and that's what VDC was intended for.
