CDK Drive is great at connecting all the team members in service/parts. We used to have a foreman who had to dispatch work to each technician, which is now done through CDK Drive. Technicians can get help with part requirements/needs through CDK. Before, each technician had to go back to the parts department and wait. CDK Drive is good at offering an option to record and send a video of what was found on a service diagnosis, this helps with transparency and trust.

DealerSocket is well suited for a scenario in which an auto or motorcycle dealer needs a one-stop, all-inclusive software for CRM and marketing. It can be cost prohibitive so a small dealership may not use all the features or be able to afford the high cost of the software.

Pros
  • CDK Drive is great at integrating with other software programs or finding a solution to connect/gather information.
  • CDK Drive allows you to pull all kinds of information, lists for use outside of CDK (like pulling customer lists for marketing emails).
  • CDK Drive continually updates its systems and processes to keep up with modern technology (for example, implementing iPads/digital processes even for technicians).

Cons
  • It'd be nice if it weren't so expensive.
  • Automatic reports emailed to service managers.
  • Auto reporting emailed to designated managers.

  • The service scheduler is mediocre at best. It offers very little control over what's coming in and is extremely clunky.
  • Adding a new user is a terrible experience for service. They need to be added to the BlackBird side, then to the scheduler as an adviser, then given permissions as a user, then given override permissions. It's way too complicated.
  • Their support team knew less about their scheduler than I did. I was almost training them within a week.

Support Rating
Great job by everyone from the initial sales staff to the implementation team to the support staff. Always ready, willing and able to help out with any questions or issues that arise, even those from people who are simply not computer savvy and have had a hard time transitioning to a new product for everyday use.

Alternatives Considered
CDK Drive is way better, but from my experience, the integration process was very long and very painful and we feel CDK Drive could've made that less painful and less lengthy. Once it is working the way it should, I am sure that we will love it. Right now though, every time something else goes wrong, it builds on the frustration of the other 50 things that went wrong prior.

We were using CDK CRM for the sales side of things, which was greatly outdated and DealerSocket absolutely blew it out of the water. However, we were using Xtime for service prior to the switch and after just 10 months, we are back to our original system. We wanted to integrate both sales and service within the same system, which is why we went with DealerSocket, but it's not worth all the trouble it brings.

Return on Investment
  • It has had an enormous impact on lowering our fixed expenses, as everything is less expensive, down to the paper that is used.
  • Data processing costs are down as well due to the fact that multiple facets of the program combine needed processes into one.

  • Not sure financially what the impact was, but I do know that our CSI scores in service dropped dramatically after implementing DealerSocket.
