Considered Both Products
Parse.ly
Chose Parse.ly
Parse.ly provides clearer insights into what stories are performing strongly in real time. Its interface is more user-friendly and it is easy to compare different time periods, titles or author statistics. Chartbeat had a website overlay to show where readers are going on site, …
Chose Parse.ly
Parse.ly excels in providing detailed insights into how users are interacting with specific pieces of content, allowing us to make data-driven decisions about content strategy and optimization. Its real-time reporting also provides us with immediate feedback on the …
Chose Parse.ly
Faster feedback and quicker visualization than what Google provides. However, it obviously can't get as specific or in-depth as Google Analytics
Chose Parse.ly
Doesn't come with an integrated overlay like Chartbeat, but is more intuitive (just) than GA. Seems more accurate and detailed than Chartbeat but less than GA. It's my go-to for day-to-day traffic engagement but monthly I'm more likely to look at in-house GA-generated reports.
Chose Parse.ly
I have not used or evaluated any other platforms similar to Parse.ly.
Chose Parse.ly
Parse.ly is way better because of how much more user-friendly and intuitive it is.
Chose Parse.ly
Parse.ly is the most comprehensive interface and system.
Chose Parse.ly
Have nothing similar to compare it with.
Chose Parse.ly
Parse.ly gives a more detailed look into how content is performing, versus the overall site metrics provided by Google Analytics.
Chose Parse.ly
Firstly, I didn't make the business decision to use Parse.ly. I'm just an employee using it. However, the first thing you notice is the change in appearance. Parse.ly's dashboard looks far more complicated than Chartbeat's and the black, white, and green theme [are] not as …
Chose Parse.ly
Parse.ly has very rich products and market use in media for content analytics. [The] dashboard provides [a] holistic view on the overall site visitor's information and what needs improvements. [The] dashboard is divided based on sections, author, posts, pages, etc., on the site …
Chose Parse.ly
Adobe Analytics is our organization's "official" data source and provides a much more in-depth feature set and customizable reporting tool. It's much less user-friendly than Parse.ly but can provide more detailed reporting. Google Analytics is used by my organization as a …
Chose Parse.ly
I used Google Analytics for years. I loved it and still love it. Google Analytics isn't as robust as Parse.ly and doesn't have some of the same capabilities, nor do I trust the data as much. But Google Analytics is still really good, and it's free. If I were at a …
Chose Parse.ly
Parse.ly is far more user-friendly than Google Analytics, which feels like a developer's tool by comparison. Parse.ly feels like it is designed for ease of access and use. While analyzing trends is more difficult in Google Analytics, it is straightforward in Parse.ly. Google …
Chose Parse.ly
I've used other web analytics tools such as Google Analytics, Baidu Analytics, and SiteCatalyst.
Chose Parse.ly
I use then in tandem; where Parse.ly lacks, I go over to Google Analytics and vice versa. Sometimes I need to look deeper at referral sources and that is where Parse.ly isn't as strong, especially if I am looking at a bigger set of content.
Chose Parse.ly
We used Chartbeat, which wasn’t as user friendly.
Chose Parse.ly
Parse.ly works better than Google Analytics. This is mainly due to its simplicity whereas Google Analytics can quickly become quite complicated with a lot of moving parts. Parse.ly, on the other hand, is quick to learn and understand while also providing a lot of information.
Chose Parse.ly
Parse.ly offers a more friendly user experience, with better ease in navigating the software.
Chose Parse.ly
Parse.ly is easier to use and more self-explanatory than Google Analytics. The site essentially explains itself upon visiting it. Chartbeat was quite good but I believe Parse.ly provides more granular details on web traffic and gives the user more insights into how and why …
Chose Parse.ly
Parse.ly is easier to track and to understand for me than the features that Google Analytics offers. Nonetheless, graphics seems to be more complex in Google's environment, which [I feel] can be a weakness for Parse.ly in the case of Data Analysts. Although, both are used in …
Serpstat
Chose Serpstat
Serpstat in comparison to a lot of the SEO tools (analysis, testing, tracking, reports, etc.) is a great all in one tool that delivers useful information and is regularly updated. In many cases Serpstat blows the competition away, or works well in unison with the competition. I …
Chose Serpstat
I selected Serpstat because it offered a lot of things like SEMRush but for half the money and it offered more than Ubersuggest had been offering. I also loved the support service I received from Serpstat. They get back to you quickly and have answers to your questions. They …
Chose Serpstat
Serpstat is a great SEO reporting tool on its own that I primarily use for reporting and as an additional reference. The other tools that I use are also good but serve a different purpose. For example, Squirrly and Yoast are WordPress plugins for easy adjustments of onsite …
Chose Serpstat
Serpstat is a full-service SEO tool with PPC features. Includes on-page and off-page technical elements. Not many tools focus on all features. Most focus on specific niches. Serpstat features all aspects of marketing. Organic and PPC ads. It's very feature-rich.
Chose Serpstat
Moz and Ahrefs are each behemoth in their own right and are certainly two of the top SEO tool companies in the market. While they may outperform Serpstat as far as data goes, Serpstat does offer a lot of features and functionality at a fraction of the price. I would love to …
Chose Serpstat
Serpstat is what I would consider a poor man's SEMRush. Although Serpstat is still a great tool, I feel like it's data (especially in competitive research, and PPC research) isn't as accurate or in-depth as SEMRush. Serpstat is much cheaper which makes it a worthwhile tool for …
Chose Serpstat
We chose Serpstat over other SEO tools because of its an all-in-one toolset as well as having a clean, easy to use UI. The price point was also a deciding factor since we were able to do the majority of our SEO research using a single tool with a single monthly subscription.
Chose Serpstat
Compared to the expensive SEMRush, Serpstat is definitely worth the price of $15-$20/month. I'm able to perform nearly all the keyword research and pull similar data that I'm able to as SEMRush without paying a $100/month for it. Serpstat also delivers extremely relevant …
Chose Serpstat
Serpstat is much cheaper than other SEO tools & just as good. It's the ideal tool for someone who needs more than the free SEO tool, but cannot afford Moz, etc. Any business that does content marketing needs a tool like this, and Serpstat is perfect for small businesses because …
Chose Serpstat
Serpstat is right there with the best SEO tools right now. Their support is great and they're very enthusiastic with new features added every month. While their link index and the number of websites they crawl every month is not as good as Ahrefs or improved Moz, it easily …
Chose Serpstat
Serpstat is up there with the list of industry products, but fails to outshine them. All of the industry tools do the same thing, but each tool has their own features and differentiation that set them apart from one another. Serpstat seems to be the simple or generic version, …
Chose Serpstat
I have used Google analytics and found it to be good, but limiting. Serpstat does have a much more transparent way to identify, and examine the wealth of SEO links that my sites have. I've tried a few other free programs online for tracking ranks and I looked into other paid …

For people working in online media, or digital content creators, the platform could help them understand their audience and allow them to interact with them in a user-friendly way. Since the digital media industry is booming, Parse.ly can allow the user and the content creators to meet each other's demands and reduce redundancies and bombard the users with unnecessary content.

Recently switching domains provided a lot of headaches for our marketing team. However, with Serpstat we were able to locate all our broken links and contact all the editors to be able to update our link. This alone took us from a DR of 25 to 34. Another practical use was for researching keyword volume for our on-page SEO - title tags and meta descriptions. With Serpstat we were able to determine keywords were worthy of us using in these values.

Pros
  • Real-time metrics are great and help us decide what content to follow up on.
  • Audience segmenting is key, helps us determine where we're strong and where we're not.
  • Historical metrics are also helpful in helping us see what readers come back to overtime, which drives decisions about what content to devote more resources to producing.

  • Keyword data provided for multiple sites: this is a standard feature in lots of SEO toolsets. It's not the worst, but not the best.
  • Backlink data: the link data is ok, but suffers from the same issue as the keyword data. If you pay for 100 results per report, expect ONLY 100.
  • Rank tracking: the rank tracking is also standard. It does a good job of benchmarking progress.

Cons
  • Traffic source. I would like to be able to find the exact social media page a view comes from. Now I can only tell which platform.
  • I would like to be able to compare traffic more than one year ago. Now I'm limited to one year.
  • Some more customization of reports (or maybe more training).

  • The daily query limit is sometimes frustrating.
  • For a new person the menu system could be a bit confusing along with terminology, it would be great if there was little help icons next to each selection to help you better understand what they do.

Likelihood to Renew
Cost is always a factor when considering any renewal, so we will always see how that compares to other offerings, but we have been pleased with the functionality from Parse.ly. Importantly, it has engaged news teams, and writers can easily assess their own performance--it is not just a management tool. This wider take-up makes it more likely that we would renew.

Usability
The Parse.ly platform is very user-friendly and easy to use. User management is simple, and reporting setup only takes a few minutes. They provide very helpful documentation for implementing the scripts on your site and have great customer support to help with custom development such as implementing their content recommendation engine.

Serpstat is great to use on the desktop. Being able to get around the site is easy, and using tools such as rank tracking and filtering are intuitive if you’ve used other SEO software. However, their app is not mobile friendly. I do a lot of my work on mobile when traveling or when dad’ing, and it would be much appreciated for the the app to have better mobile UI functionality. I know I’m dreaming, but other SEO software I use is able to accomplish this.
Things like filtering and how powerful it is are not aa easy to understand until you watch some tutorial videos. I think making this feature more intuitive would also help the sites early on adoption from new users.

Support Rating
Seems to be more bugs than I encounter in Google Analytics, but Parse.ly is always very quick to answer my questions or fix something. It seems like most of my issues are due to communications around my requests being outside of the package we pay for with this tool (i.e., only two years of data).
I believe I've only contacted support once because I had a question about access to a feature, and they told me it wasn't available on the plan I was on. No big deal, they were polite and prompt to respond and answered my question to my satisfaction. I haven't had any real issues with the software, so I haven't needed much in the way of support outside of that question, but I have no reason to believe their support wouldn't be helpful in more pressing situations.

Alternatives Considered
Parse.ly excels in providing detailed insights into how users are interacting with specific pieces of content, allowing us to make data-driven decisions about content strategy and optimization. Its real-time reporting also provides us with immediate feedback on the effectiveness of content changes, which is particularly important for content-heavy sites that need to iterate quickly.

Return on Investment
  • Sometimes in meetings our editorial director will point out stories that didn't perform well. To us, that means readers don't really care about the topic, so we'll pivot away from writing about that in the future. That might not be "business objectives" though.

  • Serpstat reporting has saved us time when delivering reports to clients
  • Serpstat app integrations allows our other data sources and Serpstat data to be combined to create Reportz (app) for client delivery
