Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use AlgoSec to perform firewall audits ensuring there are no rule overlap and risky configurations are removed. It is also used to alert on any changes to the edge network environment and initially we were hoping the product would allow us to identify who made the changes as well, but it was unable to provide that ability.

Pros

  • Traffic emulation to identify if IP traffic can flow between two points.
  • Network device mapping is okay, but no better than other solutions.
  • Identification of risky configurations and recommendations for remediation.

Cons

  • Network mapping. Can't save any customized views unless you are an administrator.
  • Rule identification. Really difficult to quickly identify rules that apply to ports and devices your are looking at.
  • Can't identify who made firewall changes if AlgoSec does the change with its service account.

Likelihood to Recommend

It works okay for auditing existing network systems but seems to have trouble with cloud configurations.

I worked with AlgoSec supporting and helping other customers with issues on AlgoSec as a Technical support Eng and later as a Escalation engg.

Pros

  • Firewall policy overview and optimisation by rule reordering and suggestions to delete unused rules
  • Network map overview and implement topology changes based on source destination and port
  • Pci audit results and recommendations for a better score
  • Discover application based flows through auto-discovery and make changes to those flow.

Cons

  • The patching in AlgoSec is not that great. Many a times when they fix a issue, another one is created.
  • Traffic Simulation and Fireflow can use some improvement. User defined flow customisation needs a good amount of training.

Likelihood to Recommend

As far as policy management goes, AlgoSec is the best one available in the market and no competing vendors like tufin and firemon are any close.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Algosec Firewall Analyzer provides complete visibility for network security policy management. We do not need to go to different firewalls and access those to make any changes or configure the policy. Using AlgoSec AFA, we can see where the particular traffic is blocked and configure the policies accordingly from a single management point.

  • Complete network policy visibility.
  • Firewalls rule optimization.
  • Automatically generate the reports for all leading industry regulations.

Cons

  • AlgoSec need to work on their support in India.
  • Insufficient documentation.
  • It should support other platforms like GCP, Alibaba, etc.

Likelihood to Recommend

Algosec is best suited for those organizations that have a large number of firewalls from different vendors. In such a scenario, if you want to allow or deny something so you need to go on and login on to each firewall and make the changes. But with AlgoSec Firewall Analyzer, all the policies can be created from a single pane of management. If some traffic is getting blocked, even you can simulate the query from AFA to see where it's getting blocked. And policy creation can be automated.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Algosec is used for in-depth firewall analysis and intelligent policy tuning and optimization. It helps in regulatory compliance metrics and overall firewall security optimization. It is currently used by the network security, audit and internal control departments of organizations where I have deployed the application, giving overall insight/visibility and enhancing improved security across the enterprise.
