Alteryx Platform is great! Highly recommend it!

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Alteryx Platform is the go-to data management software for organizations that seek to maximize data management productivity without resorting to coding in R or Python. The ideal is to manage data by the data owners, not by coders who have knowledge of code but no knowledge of the organizational processes that generate data and transactions. Alteryx Platform is the best, current generation alternative for data management by the data owners.

Pros

  • cleaning imported data
  • ETL - extract transform load
  • analytics - including predictive analytics

Cons

  • better integration with AI tools
  • data visualization
  • ease of use - particularly in relation to the more advanced tools (e.g., text analytics, predictive modeling)

Likelihood to Recommend

best suited to data management without coders. Not well suited to data management with a team of Python or R coders who have no knowledge of the underlying data or applications. Alteryx Platform enables data owners to get down and dirty with data management, without needing to know how to code.

We use Alteryx Platform in a number of areas in my organization from data prep and blending for analysis to some use cases around geospatial targeting for customers and business we do.

Pros

  • Data Blending
  • Geospatial
  • Reporting & Analytics
  • Data Source Matching & Prep

Cons

  • BI/Dashboard Capabilities
  • Cloud/SaaS Offering
  • AI with AutoInsights

Likelihood to Recommend

I think overall Alteryx Platform is a great utility tool that can be used to increase worker's efficiency and making a greater impact with data because there are so many sources. I would highly recommend this tool because it allows the common business user to complete tasks that data scientists do that require coding and deeper technical knowledge can.

Alteryx, the all-in-one tool

Rating: 7 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

we use Alteryx as an ETL in early stage data science product. The main product use case of this is to automate or Excel file transformations easily as well as to run data science functions like time, analysis, and regression in smaller models before building proper models for them. The scope is still limited for it, and it being used periodically by the team, but is highly useful for them.

Pros

  • ETL
  • Data Science
  • Modelling
  • Usability
  • Processing

Cons

  • More functions
  • More education
  • More Data science testing
  • Cheaper pricing

Likelihood to Recommend

Alteryx is well suited for smaller scale organisations or for large scale organisations where the team is not very technically advanced but are evolved at a lot of data processing, data, science, and data boarding workforce. It is not suited for high scale data as a lot of processing is done on your own PC, which might not be able to run billions of rows if you’re working with that large of data set.

My experience with Alteryx!

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

In my organization, we use Alteryx to solve many different business challenges. I’ve used to build reports for SOX testing, to support internal audit projects with analytics (for faster and more accurate testing), I’ve used it to retrieve data from SAP easily, and many more. Alteryx is really a very versatile tool and has a user friendly interface, which makes our work a lot easier. What I also like about Alteryx is how you can user the server the store your workflows, schedule time for it to run automatically, all those details are really important for me because they make my daily work routine much more efficient.

Pros

  • Alteryx has a user friendly interface, low code, which makes it easier for those who are not used to programming to use it.
  • Alteryx has basically all the tools necessary for data analysis, data science, even data engineering, so I don’t have to use other applications for this, everything is centralized on Alteryx.
  • Alteryx is fast, so even if you have a big workflow with lots of big data to be processed, Alteryx has the right tools to make it faster and process in-database, which is great.

Cons

  • I actually only have one point of improvement: I would like to be able to browse my dataset without having to run the workflow every time I add a new step.

Likelihood to Recommend

I would 100% recommend Alteryx to a friend, for me its friendly interface is the best, it has all the tools I need without the headache that programming is. It can be used for simple or complex analysis, so honestly, I don’t see a scenario where it wouldn’t suit. I’ve used Alteryx to make simple things I could do in Excel, for example, but it was less complex and faster to do in Alteryx, so why not? Its a very versatile tool.

Powerful complex software

Rating: 7 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Alteryx to automate repetitive analytical tasks. it saves the logic so we do not have to re-create it each time

Pros

  • Comparisons
  • Formulas

Cons

  • Importing multiple files
  • Make it easier to use python

Likelihood to Recommend

it is good for complex analysis. However, it’s overly complicated in certain areas, such as importing multiple files or creating reports. in my opinion, the product could be simplified for usability. If I’m going to spend that much time learning, I might as well learn SQL

Alteryx Designer Cloud Review

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Alteryx Designer Cloud to do any file formatting, combining data, sending out large batch emails, and reading and summarizing large data sets. File formatting includes changing data types, rearranging data, and other similar formatting. Large batch emails is being done for things like customer invoices. Summarizing large data sets is on sets of 1,000 all the way to 200,000 lines of data. Combining data is done on both like and unlikr datasets.

Pros

  • Combining large data sets - these can be compressed into database files to make for faster runs.
  • Formatting data - this can take 45 min of formatting an excel sheet and run it in 7 seconds.
  • Sending large batch emails - some workflows we have send out 50+ emails to customers in just minutes.

Cons

  • Need a 1 to 1 match tool. The join tool allows for lines to be matched multiple times and we need something to allow it to only match a line once from each input.
  • Test server - it could be specific to us but our test server has never been quick to use. It seems to take multiple access attempts to get in to test something.

Likelihood to Recommend

Alteryx Designer Cloud is wonderful on running through large data sets and comes in handy for any repetitive monthly process. 1 place where we noticed it is not so handy is performing a reconciliation because there's no 1 to 1 match tool available. It allows duplication of lines which works really well when trying to map a file by joining a data file and mapping file but not well at all when it duplicates lines of a GL and allows them to match multiple times.

Endless possibilities, most powerful tool available

Rating: 10 out of 10
Incentivized

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

It is widely used in handling big data tables and creating automation using big data which allowed us to save $100k+ yearly and we use it to simulate supply chain finance accruals for P&L using multiple big data sets. We also use it to create data files to load in AWS Redshift & Snowflake.

Pros

  • Carrying out complex calculations on big data sets
  • Once workflow is created we can schedule the workflow that helps to completely automate the process
  • Go to tool to extract information from cloud DBs like Redshift and Snowflake
  • Allows to run python and R scripts in the model so high level integration is possible
  • It allows to cache the workflow so that troubleshooting becomes easy and for large data sets reduce the time to run the workflow

Cons

  • For simple data preparation activities it doesn't allow to create temporary variable rather we need to create a calculated column

Likelihood to Recommend

It is very well suited to handling big data calculations example I have data with 250 columns and 12M+ rows and use 10-12 small medium data sets to run calculations which is very easily done. One can use it to carry out automation meaning one can set up a workflow for a repetitive task and then using a schedule the report will be automatically generated.

Easy to use, don't have to wait for sprint planning

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use Alteryx as an ETL tool, for quick analysis, building data models for further reporting, and using it to automate different data processes for my stakeholders. By using Alteryx, I can be quick and nimble, creating prototypes before our tech teams can get the project into their sprint plans.

Pros

  • Data Extraction
  • Data Cleansing
  • Automation
  • Visual workflows

Cons

  • Accessibility on Designer and Server
  • Reporting
  • Bulk loading
  • Sharing of assets and workflows

Likelihood to Recommend

Alteryx is well suited for projects where you are combining multiple sources of disparate data sources and then need to publish that into a different format on a regular basis. It is good with small/medium data sets, but not Big Data.

Alteryx Designer is an Essential Data Wrangling Tool

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Alteryx for all our data wrangling needs because it is intuitive, fast, and accessible to non-coders. Alteryx Designer is used on nearly all our projects, preparing and analyzing data for school districts and local governments.

Pros

  • Data preparation and blending
  • Inherent documentation of workflows
  • Wide range of data inputs (file types and databases)
  • Spatial analysis

Cons

  • Focus on development of cloud-based product rather than improvements to desktop.
  • Management of licenses has room for improvement.
  • Better integration with industry-standard GIS software.

Likelihood to Recommend

Alteryx Designer is an essential data wrangling tool to our team of GIS analysts and demographers. Establishment of workflows allows for consistent and efficient data preparation and analysis without the need for coding proficiency.

Replaced my every day excel and python with a no code !

Rating: 9 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Started out using alteryx for complex labor modeling - basically bringing in data from lots of sources and blending how we needed. Now I use it for almost everything because its easier than excel and python. With low to no code you can have the same data outputs as python (with pandas dataframes) and/or R... or you can add your own code in!

Pros

  • data preperation
  • low code
  • data modeling
  • data blending

Cons

  • running an operation by "n" times without a batch macro
  • integration with sql

Likelihood to Recommend

Data modeling, prep, and filtering all in one with low to no code. I use it as a replacement for excel and/or python and can knock out a forecast model in no time or take several excel tables and make useful reports and data out of it all while basically seeing my own thought process.
