I used Aptible Deploy as part of a proof of concept, and I have to say that it is a great platform. It solves issues when dealing with SOC and HIPAA compliances when deploying your own infrastructure. If you were to deploy your resources on AWS, you'd have to integrate third-party resources to constantly audit your environment for compliance standards. With Aptible Deploy, achieving SOC 2 or HIPAA compliance is just a button click away. It's fantastic.
Pros
Easy provisioning of your infrastructure
Achieving SOC 2 and HIPAA compliance can be done with just a few clicks
Great documentation
Built in compliance dashboard
Cons
Marketplace to integrate different external vendors
Likelihood to Recommend
Aptible Deploy is extremely well suited for any health care startup that needs to be compliant from day 0 and doesn't have the money or time to spend building it themselves. Its Heroku-like CLI gets you up and running quickly, and you can achieve compliance with just a few mouse clicks!
Aptible seems like a good option for quickly deploying applications that are compliant with healthcare industry frameworks. I found the user interface to be intuitive and easy to use.
Pros
Quick provisioning
Quick deployment
Intuitive interface
Cons
Documentation
Likelihood to Recommend
The use case for Aptible is quick and easy deployment of HIPAA/HITRUST compliant applications, and for that specific use case I think Aptible is a great solution. I would recommend it to companies that don't have security teams in place to build more robust, self-managed secure environments to host their code.
Aptible Deploy is an environment and application deployment PaaS that increases the efficiency of provisioning, log generation, and monitoring integration. It also provides activity reports for each environment and automatic vulnerability scanning for most OS packages of Linux distribution. The scanning also extends to compliance situations such as HIPAA and HITRUST. Overall, I would highly recommend this product for those in the health application development space that need a streamlined option for efficient provisioning and operational support.
Pros
Environment and application provisioning
Database instantiation and activity tracking
Security compliance
Vulnerability Reporting
Cons
An alternate set of documentation for Windows
Better troubleshooting instructions for Windows
Likelihood to Recommend
I would recommend Aptible Deploy to my colleagues because of its responsiveness and efficiency for environment and application provisioning. The product is extremely useful for creating health applications due to its built-in security and compliance protocols for HIPAA and HITRUST. The automated database backups were also a nice touch for failover scenarios, as is the included horizontal scaling. The horizontal scaling automatically defaults toward high availability as well.
Aptible Deploy is an excellent product that helps you meet deployment requirements for small to large applications. Aptible Deploy makes it easy to implement industry best practices for application deployment security, auditing, and configuration management. The simplicity of use and infrastructure clarity and audibility will make me likely to use this product in the future for proof of concept application deployments, as well as production application deployments. Decreasing the friction associated with deployment best practices will enable businesses and developers to have faster iteration times, allowing them to focus on finding product-market fit more quickly.
Pros
Security by Default
Integrated Vulnerability Scans
Excellent Documentation
Intuitive CLI
Transparent Billing
Scalability
Cons
Implement password-less CLI Auth flow
Implement Single button full application tear down
Provide demo application code for a wider array of technologies, frameworks
Provide ability to deploy into existing network constraints of large organization
Likelihood to Recommend
Would use this product from proof of concept all the way to production at scale. Aptible Deploy will allow users to iterate more quickly on their applications or software product deployments, this will enable faster product creation, and does outsource and automate significant DevOps expertise. For a small organization or startup, this will drive a huge advantage towards being product or customer-focused. For a large organization, this could outsource a lot of resource allocation for just a simple web application that needs to have tight security requirements that are auditable.
Aptible helps the Reliability engineers view the security of containers and applications before Security Engineers/Analysts can review them.
Pros
Provides insight to container security
Provides insight to application security
Shows your compliance and security score
Gives you information on updates or changes you can make to improve security
Gives you information on changes you can aid in meeting compliance requirements
Cons
The initial setup process needs a lot of work especially with git permissions
The documentation should be easy to read and find information
Likelihood to Recommend
Aptible Deploy works excellent for organizations that use Containers (especially Docker) and write business-critical applications and have to meet compliance requirements such as HIPAA/HITRUST, and SOC 2 (basically the health care industry). It provides visibility into security and best practices for the containers and applications under discussion. It also provides recommendations on infrastructure and application setup, IAM controls, and more. As a security engineer, it is advisable to use a tool like Aptible Deploy as it reduces the workload of time spent in security analysis while boosting your SAST/IAST report. Like every other product, none is perfect. Aptible Deploy comes with its flaws when deploying your first application. I had a lot of permission denied errors and some issues associated with using git for Windows.

Given that our company's mission is working with higher education institutions, HITRUST is of particular importance. Aptible is especially useful in circumstances when apps need to be HIPAA and HITRUST compliant. Aptible ensures proper security controls are in place at the infrastructure level and saves time and money during the implementation and auditing process.
Reliance on AWS (inability to choose another cloud provider)
Likelihood to Recommend
I would definitely recommend Aptible to others who are looking for simple HITRUST / HIPPA compliance and cloud management. Why? Aptible provides the proper building blocks for ensuring applications remain compliant at the infrastructure level, going beyond the measures of most HIPAA-compliant cloud providers. The time and expense of implementing these measures alone are usually very costly, and Aptible makes the process much simpler.
Aptible Deploy was very smooth to use and deploy a simple application for my personal projects. Great documentation, great integration with git and added security component. I was able to create app and deploy to Aptible within few minutes. I would love to see Aptible supports Java based frameworks.
Pros
Easy deployment
Security and Compliance
Documentation
Great support
Cons
Java based frameworks like Spring Boot
Changes in documentation for technical users
Automation around deployment
Likelihood to Recommend
Since Aptible Deploy is a solution for Platform as a service, it can be useful for bootstrap projects, companies looking to save time on deployment, and continuous deployment solutions.
I used Aptible to run a relatively simple application but involved several different services. It's a straightforward setup, and the automatic compliance features make it very easy to focus on the product sold rather than dealing with undifferentiated work like meeting compliance requirements.
Pros
Easy setup
Compliance built-in
Runs reliably
Cons
Documentation
Managing running applications
Likelihood to Recommend
Aptible is best-suited for products or environments in highly regulated spaces, like healthcare or finance. Especially if you're running a straightforward database-backed CRUD app, the built-in compliance controls, dashboards, and recommendations for compliance would be incredibly helpful for small teams that lack the resources to manage them manually.
Aptible is a very easy and secure way to deploy applications without having to mess with docker/AWS/GCP. It seems to have everything already built-in. You can deploy an application from a source within a few minutes, and the CLI is easy to use.
Pros
Automated deployments from start to finish
Load balancing
Performance
Cons
Private apps for organizations
Customizable firewall and DDoS protection
Likelihood to Recommend
Aptible Deploy may be less appropriate for internal applications. I have not found a way to block traffic or specifically restrict application usage to an IP or location. The platform works well for testing automated deployments, even if they won't be hosted with Aptible Deploy. It's most appropriate for app developers that need a demo platform.
