What is AutoCAD LT?

AutoCAD LT computer-aided design (CAD) software that architects, engineers, construction professionals, and designers rely on to produce solely 2D drawings, drafts, and documentation. AutoCAD LT is a CAD software used for 2D drawing, drafting, and documentation whereas AutoCAD is a CAD software used to create 2D drawings and 3D models. While AutoDesk's AutoCAD includes industry-specific toolsets that can provide productivity gains, both AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT include the AutoCAD web and mobile apps.

Great value for the price!

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

I use AutoCAD LT on a regular basis to designing layouts for RV storage facilities as well as reviewing CAD file sent from other contributors like surveyors, engineers, architects, Etc. During the construction phase of our projects I use it to view files and check specific measurements or elevations on our plans.

Pros

  • It is easy to import other files into your workbook and design on top of it
  • On the PC version you can easily add geolocation or pictures to your sheets
  • I like that you can create your own library of blocks

Cons

  • The differences between the Mac and PC versions are quite difficult to navigate. It would be better to have a more streamlined experience between the two platforms
  • It would be nice to have feature like geolocation on the online or mac version and not just the PC version
  • Make it more compatible with other AutoCAD formats so that I can at least view things when they are coming from Civil 3D

Return on Investment

  • We have been able to looks at CAD files that ordinarily we would not have been able to open. Giving us more control over our projects
  • We are now able to create very accurate draft designs that save us and our engineering/architecture team valuable time in drafting.
  • We can create our own plan sheets for when it is something that does not require a stamp. This saves us time and money.

Great software to use as a beginner in the industry

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

AutoCAD LT is used in my organization to draw blueprints of machine parts and plant layouts. These drawings are helpful to both R&D Engineers and Supply Management as they help assess purchasing of tooling and the shipment to the plants that have the space for the increased volume of work.

Pros

  • Blueprints
  • Dielines
  • Mapping

Cons

  • Functionality with Adobe CC
  • 3D Environment is missing
  • Updates are hard to keep up with

Return on Investment

  • Increased awareness of accuracy in drawings
  • Accurate measurements/dimensions to help with purchasing

Easy, Reliable, Customizable. The best 2D software. The golden standard.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use AutoCAD LT for developing technical layout for our customers, and small studies in 2 dimensions.

It’s fast, reliable and relatively easy to use.

I learnt to build my own macros and to customize the interface to my needs to get the work done even faster and once someone understand the simple logic behind the commands that are used, everyone can do it.

Pros

  • Easy to use
  • Easy to customize
  • Reliable
  • Manage big layouts without problems

Cons

  • Incremental savings (if possible) because autosave on big drawings took time to get done because it saves the whole file
  • Some custom macros that I made should be made standard (like infinite horizontal or vertical lines)

Return on Investment

  • I’s the only 2d cad we use in the office, and for a reason: reliable, fast and quite easy
  • We tried other free cads, but no-one come close to AutoCAD LT
  • On the long run, AutoCAD LT took less time to do things than the free cads we tried, because it was easier.

Best Software for Design & 2D Drafting

Pros

  • Drafting and layouts generation
  • 2D Modeling and measurements
  • Layers and property features
  • Useful commands like mirror, copy, move, array, offset and rotate etc.
  • File recovery feature

Cons

  • All individual lines are to be made a polyline to perform actions like Hatching, filling, etc which is very hectic. - Wish need not make it in the future.

Most Important Features

  • Layers and property
  • Commands like mirror, copy, move, array, offset and rotate etc.
  • Drafting and layout generation
  • Measurement
  • Block and Array

Return on Investment

  • It is a cost effective software compared to the features available and use of the software.

AutoCAD LT, a version to motivate, innovate in all kinds of educational projects

Pros

  • The library feature for all areas is to me AutoCAD LT's extra strong point, it makes it easier to find information within the program itself.
  • The fast solutions and precise development of drawings and projects is also another strong point.
  • I use the floor plans, elevations, sections and the hydraulic designs to work with my students on physics projects.
  • The software allows you to scale model and remodel as many times as you need, from simple to more complex designs
  • Importing and exporting files is also very simple to perform making corrections and quick feedback to students easy.

Cons

  • It would be wonderful not to have to worry about AutoCAD's performance settings.
  • Your settings require the best performing processor, memory, and video card because it is these items that keep the software from taking too long to load and run the projects.
  • AutoCAD is a very complex software that requires memorization of command codes.
  • Simpler introduction methods would be excellent because it is very important that people using it have a good understanding of it, and not just work with the software as a program operator.

Most Important Features

  • The main features of AutoCAD LT for me is always the innovation you can create in your designs, in my case working the plication of Mathematics, Geometry in everyday life is facinating
  • The introduction of a simple to use software for those who enjoy and prepare their classes in advance, because the commands must be passed in advance so as not to cause frustration

Return on Investment

  • The impact is always positive in my case when I use AutoCAD LT, because I provide intelligent lessons with few resources
  • The negative impact usually happens with professionals who don't like to innovate, study, or put a little more effort into their work. AutoCAD LT enables the enchantment at the end of the project by the public and at the beginning by the students that are delighted with so many tools
