Checkout.com is my payment gateway overall and acquirer in UAE and SG.
We sell only online.
We use Checkout.com for online sales of Hotels and Flights and for offline bookings via phone using pay per link. We are actively using the dashboard for reporting, analytics and using as well the dispute management module.

Pros

Reliability of the platform
Account management: bi-weekly calls and follow up by email or slack, good understanding of our needs and high engagement
Technical account manager: as above, high engagement with us and sharing Checkout.com technical roadmap
Performance: with the recent enhancement in intelligent acceptance,
Mix of own and third party acquiring: this is much appreciated for a merchant like us to be able to process locally via third party acquiring when Checkout.com does not have its own

Cons

Commercials: some competitors provide better fees, especially for cross border transactions
Support team: the speed to get an answer can be improved
We would like more options when it comes to settlement currencies

Likelihood to Recommend

If one is looking for a reliable and performing payment gateway I definitely recommend Checkout.com. Especially if the company is selling in many markets and wants to have a mix of local and cross border acquiring.
If cost is the only metric (although it should not be), some alternative providers do better.

They offer a wide range of payment methods with advanced fraud detection screening, network tokenization capabilities and transparent fee and reporting to enable us to run our business effectively.

I'm using Checkout.com as a PSP who provides us with payment methods for processing (card processing mainly). Checkout.com is one of our biggest partners.

Pros

AR is competitive
Communication is smooth and well organised
Technical side of the product is done on a high level

Cons

Risk appetite when it comes to really good deals
Look more into long-term strategy
Improve AR where it is possible

If someone will ask for a good and reliable payment provider for their business needs (it can be any type of online business) - I would definitely recommend Checkout.com.
I wouldn't recommend Checkout.com to someone who works in a "grey area".

We are using it for building our payment gateway service where customers (in high volume) can pay with ease using their debit/credit card or e-wallets without the need for us to be PCI-DSS compliant. We also use the feature to pull payments reports daily for the purposes of internal reconcilliation. Probably more.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Checkout.com payment gateway for collecting payments from customers who make hotel reservations on our website. We only use it for card payments. Recently also started using it for digital wallet payments (Apple Pay), soon will enable Google Pay too. However, would like to also offer APMs and instalment payments to our customers.

3Ds document is clear and mentions about liability shift
Payouts are daily
reports are easily accessible with reports API

Cons

more APMs without the requirement for the merchant to have a company in the local market
instalment payment options with free instalment to customers in various regions
showing balance figures in dashboard

Likelihood to Recommend

Liability shift is an important issue for our business and Checkout.com has a clear guideline for this in its 3ds documentation publicly available. The payouts are daily. Transaction fees are present in the dashboard under a transaction. Easy to configure fraud rules settings are available. Not ideal for APMs, not ideal if you want to have a direct integration with Xero or to see balance figure from the dashboard.

BienManger.com uses Checkout.com as its main e-commerce payment solution for all credit card payments, mainly for France, and for payments via local solutions adapted to each European country based on consumer habits in each country. The solution is used to accept payments, manage refunds and make payment requests by email for additional payment needs related to customer service.

Pros

They are as passionate about performance as we are, working closely with us to ensure we maximize the chances of success for every transaction.

Cons

It would be great to see more data points available in the data analytics area of the dashboard.
While coverage is good, more APMs, particularly across Europe, would be great to allow us to maximise the opportunities there.
An advanced query tool built into the platform that allowed access to manipulate the raw data via SQL and extract it for further analysis and aggregation with other data sets.

Paysend uses Checkout to acquire Various payment methods, such as Visa, Mastercard, and Giropay. This acquisition acts as funding for remittances, which are processed via Payment. Paysend uses Checkout.com in markets without direct scheme access, such as the US. Additionally, we plan to use Payouts from our US entity to Visa and Mastercard.

Checkout offers great service and expertise and stands above its peers in full-service offering, integration, and ongoing support. However, Checkout is not suitable in a scenario where Paysend is fully licensed and a direct acquirer of the scheme. In this scenario, Paysend can perform the full value chain in-house.
