Cisco Hyperconverged solution with Nutanix is a Power Pack

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Cisco Compute Hyperconverged with Nutanix is a fully validated solution that we use to create a hyperscale solution. This solution is fully integrated and validated solution that combines Cisco's UCS (Unified Computing System) servers and network infrastructure with Nutanix's industry-leading hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI) software.

We use this for various departments and group to be able to use for their dynamic work loads.

Pros

  • Its hyper converged
  • one hardware platform that packs compute, network and storage
  • very effective for virtualization and kubernetics work loads
  • easy to expand with demand

Cons

  • solution with two different companies - support could improve
  • Cisco provide hardware like rack servers and blades, while Nutanix has the software
  • Faster solution would be include latest GPUs and DPUs

Return on Investment

  • Compact solution that is easy to build and deploy
  • Hyper converged solution in a box. All pieces are together
  • ROI is very high and we are able to meet and exceed business objectives for compute.

Suitable alternate for VMware

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use it for on-prem workloads. It addresses the scalability issues easily.

Pros

  • Single pane of glass
  • easy to provision
  • easy to expand capacity

Cons

  • workload migration from VMware

Return on Investment

  • Increased our turn around time to provision workloads

Why AHV ?

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Mainly as a on prem or colo setup combined with either AHV or VMware hypervisors (customers like the AHV alternative)

Pros

  • Private cloud in the 500-2500 VM range
  • K8S on top of these
  • Traditional workloads on these as well
  • Flexibility and scalability to start reasonably small and scale up quite big

Cons

  • Multi site with DR and BC scenarios
  • Moving into AI and or specialized workloads (but this is coming soon already)

Return on Investment

  • This is difficult to see yet, but the expectation is that the hypervisor licensing can be better (cost effective) with AHV
  • The other advantage is the ease of migration (and expected cost)

Cisco Compute Hyperconverged with Nutanix Great Partnership

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have a lot of workloads that are latency sensitive and can run only onPremise. We were able to migrate these to Cisco Compute Hyperconverged with Nutanix.

Pros

  • Easy to scale out
  • Provides high availability via multiple nodes
  • Storage performance at par with traditional NAS and SAN with all SSDs

Cons

  • The integration with Intersight can have more features
  • There could be more Hybrid storage option supporting both HDD and SSD

Return on Investment

  • We had a positive ROI as the bundle pricing of HW+SW was at par or slightly lesser than what we were already incurring with our legacy solution
