Use Cases and Deployment Scope

It's about, first of all finding out which kind of devices are inside of the OT networks in the production networks, but we also want to connect the staff to our identity service engine with PXgrid. So we want to integrate the OT guys and the IT can better interact and work together. That's why we want to use this tool.

Pros

  • Well, the product for example, shows vulnerabilities from different devices. It might be a server in the production, but it might also be a PLC or something like that. So we see the east west traffic with this tool. And so for example, our security guys, they can check if there are any defense mechanisms inside of the network that we can do to support the security inside of the production. Because when you have a production, you sometimes have old devices you cannot update for certain reasons. So you need to find another way to protect these devices, especially when everything is interconnecting more and more. For example, data needs to be analyzed in the cloud and so you need to connect these old devices in some ways secure to this network and that's where the product helps us.

Cons

  • I cannot really answer this question because we use this tool since a half year and to be honest, I'm pretty satisfied with this product. Probably an improvement is that only one Cyber Vision Center is possible as far as I know and probably would be great to have a redundancy in the Cyber Vision Center.

Where it's well suited? So like I said, so when you don't have any insights inside of your network, inside of your production especially, this is where you can really use this product because it's great because you cannot do some active discovery. You need to do passive discovery, you can deploy it on a Cisco Switches so you don't need some extra devices or do some remote fan to send this traffic to some central controller. You have everything on the edge and I think this is a great benefit of Cisco Cyber Vision.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Cisco Cyber Vision as a Proof of Concept to get visibility onto our OT network. After the POC we will evaluate the business case to roll out Cisco Cyber Vision within the company.

Pros

  • Visibility
  • Providing an OT dashboard
  • Integrated solution with other Cisco products

Cons

  • A lot of improvements are in the last version (we need to upgrade)

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use this product to understand how our assets are working, what the communication is, and to set up a kind of asset list in hardware and software perspective.

Pros

  • It learns which software the hardware is using and which communication is wanted and which communication is bad, stuff like this.

Cons

  • We use it and this product is made especially for OT environment. So everything you can find inside of a production, PLC, robotics, stuff like this.
  • As freshly announced last Friday, it was pain by being forced to use SSD in Catalyst switches, but with the version it's no longer needed. So for here now I'm happy.

Likelihood to Recommend

To do a reactive scan of devices to have the possibility to isolate fraudulent devices or attacking devices.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We use Cisco Cyber Vision to secure an industrial control network at the Idaho National Laboratory. Our use case is connecting government facilities with experiment equipment, automation, data, etc. to the responsible parties. We track and control network communications from programmable logic controllers (PLC)s to human machine interfaces (HMI)s in a production environment.

Pros

  • Monitors known network traffic
  • Associates risk of vulnerabilities identified on the network devices
  • Presents a unified dashboard with threat assessment.

Cons

  • AI integration for what is most important to tackle first.
  • Better integration with DNAC.
  • AI integration for equipment identification.

Likelihood to Recommend

Best suited for environments that are controlled network infrastructure such as industrial control systems. Also very useful in corporate environments where there is a high level of machinery on the network. Cyber Vision does a great job of identifying east and west traffic on the individual switches. Highly recommend Cyber Vision.
