Currently, we use Vantagepoint almost exclusively as accounting software along with using it for timesheets. We are looking to implement it for use as a CRM system, as I have used it for in the past. Right now only those in accounting really know how the software is used as the business model of the company is somewhat different from most others in civil engineering. One of the roadblocks to using the software is resistance to change and having to learn a new system.

Customization of fields, tabs, and hubs is very flexible. You can create as many different customizations as necessary for your business model.

Reporting is very clunky and anything but intuitive.
Compared to Vision, Vantagepoint layouts are very cookie-cutter. The latest release allows you to create up to 5 columns, still, it is so much less customizable than Vision in look and feel.
Customer service is poor. If you have a question or issue you can expect it to be addressed in 2-4 weeks, minimum.
Software testing has been poor in the past. Too many bugs have made it through to release on things that should have easily been caught, such as certain workflows not working, etc.

I have used Vision/Vantagepoint with 5 different companies. Where the business model is project-based it works very well. This is the rule for most AEC companies. My current organization does not really have a project-based business model as they have many, many small "projects" that never get entered into Vantagepoint as it would be time prohibitive to do so. This makes the use of the system very limited for all employees outside of accounting and unreliable for reporting pipeline and historical revenue data. This is not the fault of Deltek, however, just an observation of how it is used with my current company.
We used it for over 2 years. We just finished up last month. In my opinion, we did not get any ROI with the product. It was very lackluster with information that we required. When we tried to get more information nobody contacted us. Based on experience, there were erroneous charges from DelTek without explanation and then they would not refund us for charging the account for those fraudulent charges. I believe they did not even provide the service for those additional charges either. When we tried to cancel after 2 years of the product not working for us at all, they tried everything they could to save us. At that point they wanted to talk, but when we were having issues the entire 2 years before, they didn't have the time. That being said, we cancelled, and when the month was over they tried to auto renew us. They said we didn't provide any evidence that we were cancelling. We provided multiple emails where we said we were going to cancel. They wouldn't let us cancel and they even tried to take us to collections at that point. After everything I would not recommend utilizing DelTek at all.

If asked by a colleague if I would recommend this product/company, I will say absolutely not. I believe their customer service was terrible. They did not fix any issues. We did not get any benefit from them for 2 years.
I thought that Deltek Vantagepoint was a pretty solid software. From my persepctive, it seemed like there wasn't a lot of flexibility for the user, but I did not usually need to do anything other than log my time, or put in time off. It was pretty easy to use.

I think that Deltek Vantagepoint doesn't try too hard to do anything extra. It is a very solid software and I didn't find any problems while using it. I think it would be great for any sized firm to use, at least from the user perspective (the time logger).
We used VantagePoint to consolidate CRM and project data for pursuits, projects, clients, documents, and financials. We were happy with the way it has reduced duplicate entry into multiple systems. It was easy to learn and intuitive for users across multiple levels and departments. It has streamlined the 'pursuit of client' process.
