Great for lean companies hard to provide user feedback

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Discord is used by our organization as the main communication platform among all of our different teams. We make video games, and the straightforward design of Discord along with the fact that it has more robust features for free out of the box made it an attractive alternative over competing products such as Slack or Microsoft Teams. We use Discord every single day for our morning standup meetings, for facilitating any smaller digital meetings that need to happen throughout the day, and for separating conversations into different relevant channels based on the team/topic.

Pros

Role management
Keeping all conversation in one thread without splitting off into smaller "hidden" conversations
Programming custom bots and tools for the platform

Cons

They severly lack in ways to receive feedback from the community about desired new features. The only remaining "platform" they have is a defunct feature request website that is no longer checked by any of their developers.
There is an inability to permanently "mute" replies to your messages. Replies to messages left by you are treated as direct @ pings and so will override any silencing rules you have set up and thus will still show a small, red, notification badge on servers you have muted that contain replies.
Their options for programming modals are fairly lacking, with a very small range of visual items that can be added to them.

Likelihood to Recommend

Discord works phenomenally if you want a chat platform that is free, quick to set up, and very flexible in the ways you can start using it. It doesn't require a complex set of logins for different servers and confusion about adding new members, or tough pricing right out of the gate. If you prefer to view full conversations all in one place without them "splintering" off into branches that are missed, Discord works great for this. All in all, Discord is great for startup companies or lean working companies, but it does not lend itself as well for larger, traditional "corporate" enterprises.

In my office we use Discord for the multiple purpose like communication, OTP testing, Creating multiple channels so we can add and access the websites / code snippets / shortcuts / formulas / some data and files accessible for onboarding or training the new members etc. as for personal use multiple communities are easily accessible specially when stuck with the issues in code.

We use Discord as our main internal comunication voice and text tools, we have channels for every area of the company, like CS, developement, technical support, sales, marketing, designers, and also, channels specificly for different areas together, like CS and Sales, or dev and support. The bussiness problems that we discuss are abour the software that we comercialize.

Discord is good for everyday chats, with friends or colleagues, it makes communication really easy, easy to speak with anyone at any moment or share your screen, it really feels like everybody is at the office . I am not sure if it would be that suited in companies that are more up tight, i feel like it is fun.

Good internal messaging app for small businesses

We replaced Slack by moving over to Discord. It works pretty much the same way but without the limitations that Slack imposes on small businesses. We're a small team/business and didn't need or want to incur more expenses with our internal chat/messaging tech stack. We've switched to Discord for a few years now and haven't looked back.

For some reason, the API connection doesn't always work consistently

For small businesses that may not need or require specific enterprise-level data/privacy controls, Discord is more than adequate to meet internal messaging functions.
Discord can get quite "noisy" at times and controlling the notifications from various servers can be tiresome, but overall, it meets our needs and doesn't have the limitations Slack imposes on the free tier.

Instead of using Teams, Slack or Meets we use Discord in order to make the meeting more relaxing, we have all the same features as in other applications but instead of being tied to Microsoft, Google or a paywall on Slack, we can have Discord to let us do the exact same thing. The UI might be more gamer focused but the use is the same and we can segregate the team the way we want, make different rooms and even make separate rooms and take someone from a meeting there and then comeback to the previous one n

Large groups re easy to handle, you have notably a better integration with other devices, you would be better using it for different time zones, the script and notification will alert the user when the meeting is held in their own time, by mail, push notification or pop-up. It is easy to install in any operating system and has a low learning curve. Better not use with the C-Suit team since they are prone to think Discord might be "Childish".

Mainly for general communication and socializing for members. There are really no business problems that are solved through this medium. Our main platform of work currently is MS Teams through the Outlook/MS suite which provides for all our needs. I would say Discord was short lived in our context.

Discord is a communication tool, used in our company as a supplementary communication platform to Teams. This is because Discord cannot be considered by the company as the main and official communication tool, as the Teams application is used. But Discord has better user-side management.Additionally, Discord has better plugins and better management of groups and channels. Most users prefer this tool when it comes to communicating

We use Discord personally, rather than directly as a business, although that's something we're looking at as well. For now though it's mainly about using it for servers that are relevant to our business (and some fun ones too of course). In the past, I would never have dreamt of using it for a non-tech use, but now I believe it's maturing well outside of its origins in games, and extension into tech.

Facilitates live chat with peers (who can become friends sometimes - and there's a mute option if they become the opposite)
Has a great API/Webbooks so it's very flexible
Is free to use - what more can you ask for on top of everything else?

Cons

Muting people is ok, but a way to totally block them would be much better. Last time I used the mute feature there was still no blocking so you still get notifications that person has said something. It would be much better to just never know they are there.
Although I said earlier it's improving it's use-cases by widening away from games and tech, a further push on that by Discord themselves - perhaps by way of supporting groups to move financially etc - would be great to see.
Although the API is flexible, it'd be great to have an option to show not just the current timestamp in your location, but the timestamp of the location of the poster (opt-in or out-out of course).

Discord is completely suited for any tech server needs - and a million times better than Facebook. It's still lLess suited for non-tech but for sure it's getting better and with some support from Discord that could be fixed easily (just don't dumb-it down or take away features please). I have it open all day, on a separate monitor if I'm not using that one for something else. It'd be great - and maybe I've missed this - if there was a way to have an overview of messages posted in various channels. Despite using it for years now, I've never dug deeply into notifications, so maybe it's possible already. But it should be highly customisable - ie, put all messages from chosen slow servers in the feed, but only highlights from busy ones, and no messages from certain servers etc , so it remains manageable.

Discord is only used socially by some of my fellow coworkers, it is not used in an official capacity. However, it is by far my preferred platform to use among my friends and acquittances. I appreciate the ease of voice communication, screensharing, image/media sharing, and the functionality of the general UI. The fact that it also has popular integrations with a lot of gaming platforms is a huge plus.

Better volume balancing between members on a call.
More customizability of the notification sound for each server. It would be nice to set each of my important servers with a different notification sound.
More expansive note section when you view another user's profile. I'd like to be able to contain more information there in a more organized way.

Likelihood to Recommend

Discord is great for easy hop-in/hop-out voice communication with a group of friends! It's the easiest platform for hosting group voice chats in my experience, and consistently works well to do so. I also appreciate how easy it is to set up a server and configure multiple channels for community based discussion. The ability to share links, images, and other media is very well supported. It has a very strong balance of simplicity to use and granularity of control and configuration.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Discord is great for communicating with my team with its multiple channels and seamless communication options. Video calls help when working remote which was extremely helpful during Covid. Its user friendly and most of the employees are already familiar with the software before they are onboarded. It connects on mobile as well which is great for on the go communication. Highly recommend.
