gathering company data, with a focus on financial data. unfortunately, D&B provides only the estimates which is not ideal. but the great thing about it is the coverage - D&B tends to be the last resort when I'm struggling to find the data or identify a legal name of the company i'm looking for. one of the most useful tools for me is the searching bar being able to identify the company just by pasting the company's website into the search bar. it really helps a lot and saves tons of time during research.

I am a research analyst for a labor organization. I generally use D&B Hoovers to gather information on a private company's high level aggerate sales figures, related industry news, and prescreen score. The prescreen score is very useful as it helps us determine the stability of a company prior to attempting to organize them. The closest industry peers is also very helpful to determine similar organizing targets.

A common example that I refer to which fits both categories would be employee counts. When OSHA 300 logs are unavailable for a particular manufacturing or related facility, D&B Hoovers employee count is a great source. When OSHA logs are available, I tend to use them instead as D&B Hoovers is not as accurate or pulling that information for a credible source in my opinion.
Our GTM operations and data teams are the primary users of D&B Hoovers. We use the tool to expand our set of ICP accounts by finding net new accounts to add to our CRM. We also use D&B Hoovers to help fill out missing information on these accounts.

If they were conducting in-depth research, I would suggest they consider using a different tool. The limited ability to review out-of-business companies and data makes the tool limited in that type of research.

We look to locate contact information for senior executives at companies, as well as find out which companies are the leads in different kinds of industries. D&B does a good job of providing an initial place to look up information on companies and their management team. The ease of use of the website is a plus, as is the speed with which information is retrieved. The report capabilities are especially helpful when trying to learn about the leaders within an industry.
One of the challenges we have had with D&B Hoovers is that it does not integrate with all of the software and systems that we use. I think there is a huge opportunity to create some integration with these platforms. I also think the usage of AI to some capacity is an opportunity for D&B Hoovers to create more value for its customers.

That can be a downside as the cost increases quickly with additional add-ons.
