I love FortiAP!

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We primarily see FortiAP in our organization. We use them as they tie into the Fortinet security fabric and therefore extend the firewalls ability to protect us and our customers.

Pros

  • Ease of deployment
  • Ease of mounting with zero tools required
  • Ease of management

Cons

  • I would like to add an option to show which options you change will reboot the access point.

Likelihood to Recommend

They are best used in office environments, however, you can use them outside and in warehouses as well by using different antennas offered by Fortinet.

Forti WLAN - great addon to Fortigate

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have implemented Fortinet WLAN at some of our Branch offices to ensure proper connectivity for our teams. Security was core, and with hybrid workforce realities, especially with multiple offices, we needed to have a solution in place that offered easy connectivity to all of our users. Setup was easy for our IT team, which is always a plus!

Pros

  • Provide secure wifi
  • deploys easily
  • facilitates users connectivity when moving between offices

Cons

  • requires manual updates
  • Access points cost vs performance
  • support isnt always efficient

Likelihood to Recommend

Fortinet offers great Security features and is one of the leaders on that, and integrating Wireless LAN infrastructure with Access points proved to work rather seamlessly. Ease of management, single platform and ability to customize licensing as per needs were elements in favor of adding the Wireless LAN solution from Fortinet to our security portfolio.

Fortinet Wireless LAN Review

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

As a Fortinet solution reseller, we obviously deploy a lot of their solutions in-house, either in our production environment or lab environment to showcase to customers. We use FortiGate as routeurs, FortiSwitch and FortiAP for our LAN and Wireless needs prod environment. So all our security/infrastructure is manage with Fortinet products. Obviously, our wifi is provided by FortiAPs.

Pros

  • Really easy to configure
  • Really easy to manage
  • Great value for price

Cons

  • Better to work with a Fortinet partner, their support is inadequate.
  • Maybe a lack of security features when using it without Fortigate

Likelihood to Recommend

Fortinet has a great portfolio of access points for indoor and outdoor needs, low and high density and even access points for ruggedized needs. So you can find the appropriate access point for pretty much all scenarios, from office to storage or outdoor environments. We can find all you need to roll out small to large deployments.

Fortinet Wireless LAN offers more bang for your buck

Rating: 8 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

We have built a WiFi, all-in-one solution, and created a product for existing and future customers. The all-in-one includes all Fortinet products: Firewall, Switch, and Access Points. This solution, compared to Meraki's all in one solution, is at a price-point to which customer like, without having to give up features.

Pros

  • Ease of configuration.
  • Ease of management.

Cons

  • In the web portal, it would be nice if you could create a customer, assign that customer all the devices in the solution, and have a single pane glass to manage them all. Right now you need to access different web links to manage the devices.
  • The security feature set could be a bit more sophistication, like an Arista AP which polices the air.

Likelihood to Recommend

The Fortinet solution works in all scenarios due to the choice of access points. It is able to suit any environment. The access points will perform in any indoor or outdoor environment, and Fortinet support is second to none. They will assist you from beginning to end; ensuring your solution is working as it should.

FortiAP - definitely business level wireless

Rating: 10 out of 10

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

Our main headquarters is spread over three buildings. I have implemented FortiAPs at two of the three. I also have installed them at our two remote offices. These provide wireless for all users in the office. I also provide a Guest SSID for visitors which is segregated from our main network - Internet only. This devices provide excellent coverage for all my offices. I have not heard one complaint about them since installing them. I also have the ability to monitor traffic on these devices and see who is doing what. I haven't implemented the various built in features (AV, Malware, App monitoring) as my Fortinet firewalls take care of that aspect for me.

Pros

  • Excellent coverage - we use the smaller models - FP321 and 221, but I have never had an issue with coverage for my users.
  • Easy to install - configuration and deploy is super simply - our network isn't super complex, but I had no issues rolling these out.
  • FortiCloud allows me to monitor my AP network easily and quickly - gives me alerts, updates and status on a single pane of glass.

Cons

  • Deploying your first AP is a little confusing - you need to register it with Fortinet, and then deploy it. I am a master now, but this took me call to support to understand how to roll these out.
  • Adding them in to the correct folders on Forticloud took a little bit of figuring out, but again, once I had it it was simple.

Likelihood to Recommend

Any rollout is well suited for a FortiAP - from small office networks, to large warehouse deployments. Adding additional APs to your network is simple and easy. Monitoring is simple with Forticloud monitoring. Configuring the devices can be as complex or as simple as you need. Adding additional Fortinet devices (I have switches and firewalls) makes the network even more secure and easy to manage - all devices working in tandem make monitoring much easier.
