If the project has transactional implications with web interfaces and apps, and in addition, must be integrated with other platforms through APIs, GeneXus is the best option. If the project has to do with using or creating calculation programs, with interactions with a large volume of data, with strong handling of the graphic interface, or for games, GeneXus it is not recommended.

Use Cases and Deployment Scope

In my experience GeneXus is the fastest solution for creating apps and software solutions, new versions have powerful functions and [integrations]. The interface with SAP and the facilities for make web services SOAP and REST is amazing, the customers are happy with this low-code platform in their solutions. I think this software is very easy and useful.

With one customer we implemented support solutions, integrated with Remedy and Jira. In another case, I developed a solution for customer services integrated with another .net solution. I remember another project where we made a publicity app with Facebook authenticated.

Pros

Faster coding.
Easier integration with another platform.
Easier to make an app.

Likelihood to Recommend

Perhaps scientific research applications are not the best scenario to use GeneXus, but particularly many scenarios can be used from different fields, commerce, production, business intelligence, advertising, media, etc., I cannot think of any scenario in that GeneXus cannot work effectively.

We use GeneXus as a work tool to develop all the solutions required by our clients. Solutions for all types of clients and any style of business.

Pros

It allows to focus on the solution instead of seeing technical or implementation limitations as it is multiplatform.
Development times are shorter due to its easy implementation and on the same platform manage the database, services and front.
Being multiplatform allows us to implement the solution in different technologies.

Cons

Controls for the implementation of a better user experience.

Likelihood to Recommend

Genexus is recommended for any type of business and type of solution. In particular, I have developed solutions for commercial companies and financial businesses. Solutions of all kinds such as web, responsive web and mobile applications.

We use GeneXus as our first option for developt a solution for the customer. After that, we select, in the customer environment, if the solution will be deployed in .Net or Java. The DBMS is an extra decision because if we use GeneXus, we all know that those decisions will have a minor impact on the development time and the number of members involved in the programming, deployment, and support.

For agile models, GeneXus helps a lot to make faster, added-value solutions.

Pros

Easy solution.
Available for mobile, .Net, Java.
You can work with almost any DBMS and change it in the process without starting again from scratch.

Cons

Some errors at building time that are difficult to figure out. In the deployment and executions, sometimes you get errors not easy to figure out.
Now it's fast, but when you create a large solution, it slows down.

Likelihood to Recommend

We use it for web-based solutions, mobile apps, and solutions that you need to interact with legacy systems by SOA architecture. If the customer needs an easy solution and needs to have a first module ready quickly, GeneXus is easy and the best solution for this. Projects go from the programmer desktop to the web in less time.

Pros

Helps create complex software solutions in different platforms/architectures such as Web, Mobile, Cloud, ChatBots, Desktop, etc.
Once you have achieved a seniority level of experience you can get up to 10x faster than traditional programming (Java, .NET, etc.).
Lets you concentrate on the business while the tool provides technical solutions that automatize software development
It has a great complements such as WorkWithPlus that boost GeneXus' productivity

Cons

Better documentation
Better customer service (bug fixing)
A Web based development environment

Well suited for business applications, mission-critical software solutions, BPM, integration with other systems, legacy modernization, etc.
